Awesome

I travelled from Australia and stayed 15 nights, the apartment was very clean and well appointed. I was travelling on my own and felt very safe in the neighbourhood and the apartments had excellent security. Midstay the housekeeper cleaned the apartment and changed all my linens. Thanks Vir for meeting me on my first night and answering any questions I had while I was in New York. I would recommend this apartment for 2 - 3 people comfortably. Subway was closeby and I had a choice of different lines to take. It took me about 15-20minutes to walk to time square but transportation is not a worry in New York. Having the kitchenette allowed me to have breakfast each morning, the fridge was nicely stocked with all the basics. I am missing my stay already cant wait to comeback.

Owner response:Thanks, we can't wait to have you back as our guest. Vir

Spring trip to New York

Date of Stay: 03/11/12 Review Submitted: 03/16/12

This apartment is conveniently located to Central Park on the East side. Clean, bright and adequate for 2-3 people. The kitchen though small, had everything needed for a small meal whenever needed. The small refrigerator was stocked with butter, milk and eggs for our first morning. The bed was very comfortable and Vir provided an air mattress for our older son. We were within walking distance to Sarabeth's Bakery, Maya Mexican restaurant. We also walked to the West side and ate at Boulud Sud, Esca and Telepan restuarants- even though a big hike through the park to eat at these restuarnats, the long walks before and after our meals were welcomed. Our weather was wonderful for this time of year and we enjoyed many walks through Central Park. For those who can't climb steps, an elevator is available to reach the 4th floor. The area the apartment is located is very safe. Subway close to apartment provided us the opportunity to visit the Twin Towers memorial, visit the Highline and had a wonderful lunch at Eatly. We will return!!

Owner response:Thank you, See you soon, Vir

Look Forward to Return

Our first time with VBRO. This experience (six nights) exceeded our expectations. Except for a safe, the apartment had everything available in a fine hotel room plus a complete, efficient kitchen. We called on our way from the airport and the owner met us in the building lobby. The owner and his wife had thoughtfully supplied some staples, such as milk and bread. Plenty of closet space. Clean and cozy. Location is excellent--between 5th and Madison avenues in the mid 60s, a short distance from Central Park with lots of good restaurants in the neighborhood, and easy access to Lincoln Center on the M66 bus. We live in a quiet neighborhood. As with most of Manhattan, there is street noise. We have learned to live with it. If you have not, consider ear plugs. Next time we go to Manhattan, we will consider ourselves fortunate if we are able to stay here.

Owner response:Thank you ! we look forward to your next visit.

Amazing location! Lovely suite. Chilly nights.

My wife and I just ventured to New York for a getaway without our kids and wanted something central and cozy and this was truly that. We were moved to this unit from another that we had chosen but it was very nice, very clean and only meters from Madison Ave and Central Park and about 30 minutes walk to Times Square, and 30 to the pubs on 2nd on the upper east side. Location was fantastic. We did however not have heat at night in the unit. Only one night, in the middle of the night did the radiator actually kick but otherwise we left it on all the time we were in the unit and it never came back to life. It's not the end of the world, the weather was ok but there is no question were were chilly at night. If this was winter, I would have been upset but it wasn't so I assume they'll have it fixed for future guests.

Owner response:Thx, in all fairness it was the time of a fluke storm first time in the history of NY in Oct. and getting maintenance and ConEd attention was not easy. However, at the end of the first night it was back to normal and upon maintenance review it turned out that the knob of the radiator had not been opened.

We had booked this apartment, but had to cancel at the last minute because of Hurricane Irene. The owner was very understanding and accommodating to our needs: honest and fair. We hope to get a chance to visit next year.

Owner response:Thx, we look forward to your visit. Vir

This is "Living the Dream"...

Guest: L & G (Calgary, Alberta)
Date of Stay: 03/23/11 Review Submitted: 04/18/11

We are a professional couple in our 30's from Calgary, Alberta. We've visited New York and stayed at hotels a few times, playing the typical tourist role. However, as this was to be a longer stay in the city for us, we were looking to live like New Yorkers in the Upper East Side. Staying at this apartment was truly a genuine experience- ironically the one we refer to fondly as "living the dream" in "our" Madison Avenue apartment. From typing at the antique desk overlooking the avenue in the evenings to sitting at the window sill bench sipping my Illy coffee in the morning- every day was fabulous. Everything was very clean and decorated beautifully with antiques and vintage accents and the high ceilings and sun drenched windows were even better than expected. The kitchen was stocked with all the tools and appliances we needed to prepare our breakfasts and lunches and the neighbourhood had fantastic restaurants for dinners out. What a nice surprise to find fresh fruit, eggs, bread, milk, honey and coffee in the fridge upon our arrival. The bed was comfortable and the towels were plush. The living room area allowed us to have a few friends over to visit over a glass of red wine and a slab of cheese from Murray's. The location is steps from Central Park and the best shopping and museums in the city. Our host, Vir was fantastic- very honest and accomodating- he provided us with a list of places to check out in the area and returned our damage deposit immediately as we checked out. We give this apartment 5/5.

A Gem

My Parents were visiting from out of town and i wanted to put them up close to me in the 60's. This is a lovely Vrbo on Madison a beautiful Town house restored with original details. The Apt is decorated beautifully and extremely clean, they even sent the housekeeper to change the towels and sheets midweek Missoni and Frette !! The fridge had some delightful treats and is well stocked with anything you would need away from home. My Parents had stayed at the Surrey during a previous visit but actually preferd this and definitely will come back here. Also the Salon downstairs is a delight and they got a fair share of celebrity sightings right in the building. Also the owners were super nice and my parents checked out at 5 for there evening flight. Thank you.

Old Apartment In A Good Area

Guest: Ville (Perth, Australia)
Date of Stay: 01/13/11 Review Submitted: 04/08/11

My wife and I stayed in this apartment for 7 nights in January 2011. We had mixed feelings. There is no question that this is a ritzy area. High end stores are nearby, it seems to be a very safe neighbourhood and it’s convenient for cabs and for the subway. The end of Central Park where all the horse and carriage drivers congregate to take tourists for rides is a 5 minute walk away. High end stores such as Tiffany, Cartier, Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman are nearby. Unfortunately the apartment on Madison Avenue is not as “high end” as the neighbourhood. It is not an apartment building as such; the first floor is a children’s clothing store and the next two floors are hairdressing salons. The apartment is on the fourth floor; there appeared to be one other apartment on the floor and there is one more floor above. There is no elevator in the building and I was told it was a walk-up. I should have thought more about that before I booked… carrying our suitcases was a big job. And those stairs were not pleasant at the best of times… dingy, narrow and with a slight lean, it felt to us. The interior of the apartment is old. The “living room” is directly connected to the bedroom by a set of double doors and it is tiny… so tiny that the armoire shown in the picture can’t be opened easily and the television is in the bedroom. The kitchen was functional but very, very tiny… two people can’t use it at the same time. It didn’t feel very clean; we only used the utensils a couple of times as they felt quite dusty. There were some basic food items stocked in the kitchen which was quite a thoughtful gesture. The bathroom was spotlessly clean but quite old. Unfortunately the toilet didn’t seem to be properly fixed to the floor, leading to a most disconcerting rocking sensation when one sat down. It seemed almost impossible to control the water temperature in the shower – it went from boiling to freezing several times in the course of each shower. The towels provided were old and showing signs of wear. Check in was not the best procedure for us. I asked the owner if early check in was possible. He said “As for early arrival, we can certainly check you in early at no extra cost.” When I called him about 8.30 am on the day of my arrival he said the apartment would not be ready until 1 pm. In the end we had to wait on the street, in the snow and below freezing, for another 45 minutes when he did not arrive...not a great start to our stay.

This was an incredible location. The owner was extremely accommodating. The location is perfect for everything you want to do in NYC. The apartment is clean and very well kept and the fruit and breakfast foods waiting for you upon arrival was very thoughtful. I would highly recommend this apt.

what is not explained in this three story walk up..is that the below two stories are hair slons with all the smells that go along with it. The kitchen was very poorly equiped..we had to borrow a frying pan from the owner and buy a wine opener. Madison ave is very noisey so we kept the windows closed and air conditioner on. The owner was very accomodating but the bathroom was dirty and didn't drain..needs alot of TLC

We come here for the Armory show each year with a lot of luggage and it is a walk up but easy three floors and extremely clean and well kept townhouse and even better kept apartment.Vir has been very patient and sometime due to late flight we have checked in midnight. The bed is very comfortable and it is a Cappellini with nice mattress. Always in past so many years there is everything in the kitchen, coffee, toast maker, pans and pot and many choice of coffee, there is also refrigerator with milk, eggs, fruit and basics to start the stay. There is no laundry but many on lexington avenue (2 blocks) and also we use there housekeeper sometimes to do laundry and buy groceries and is very helpful because we are busy at the show. Natalia is the best housekeeper and nobody cleans better than her, she is the police of housekeeping. This is the best location too for shopping or to take the train anywhere is very easy on 68 and Lexington. We can go to Soho downtown and comeback easily. The Building is good security, you can lock all the doors and there is intercom. The salon is very chic but very chic price too. I love this apartment and i give 100 points any time.

I actually reviewed this location previously, so this may be a duplicate. This was fantastic. The apartment was furnished to the nines. The linens on the beds were amazing. Couldn't believe these high end linens on a VRBO. The location was amazing. Walking distance to Times Square, 2 blocks from the Park, and short walk to lovely, great places to eat. I can't say enough about the owner, Vir! A great person, and great communicator. I would recommend this very highly!!

We stayed here on Easter weekend 2010. My wife and I, a one-year old, and our 4.5 year old. We have family in town and have always stayed with them but as our families have expanded we need new options. The location is ideal - around Dolce and Gabbana on Madison on the East side. The space is 2 rooms, perfect for putting a baby to sleep with all the privacy we need. Our 4.5 year old liked it so much instead of staying with family she opted to sleep in the windowsill and take in the NYC vibe - no problem sleeping there 2 nights in a row. The apartment is very nicely appointed - from linens, decor, kitchen appropriately well stocked (very thoughtful host), and bathroom. AC worked nicely as it was a warm Easter weekend. Everything is within walking distance. We walked to see family on the far east side, my walk and daughter walked to a Broadway show, and we went to Central Park which was a block away. Of all the many times we visited, could not beat the location. Lucky us parking was also free all Sunday - did not have to use a garage Sat-Monday with careful plugging of the meter and leaving in a timely fashion. Photos are accurate but actually better in person, location is the best, the property is meticulous, and V has plenty of suggestions of where to go in NYC. I would best recommend it for couples, families with one older child, or perhaps a baby. We give the place and host (V) a 5/5 and many thanks. We intend to stay again for our visits!
