Secluded Retreat Mile from Historic Downtown Pool

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Hot Springs

We have had success with our first vacation rental here in town and we were looking along time for a secluded private house with a nice yard and plenty of parking that was also close to downtown.
When we found this house bordering on the national park with trails 300 feet away we knew this would be the one.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Quiet and peaceful. Secluded. Hiking and the pool. Nice level yard. Very Close to the historic downtown.

Relaxing getaway

Guest: Dana (Dallas)
Date of Stay: 05/08/11 Review Submitted: 05/14/11

Let me just start by saying that John the owner is great to work with... extremely helpful and wonderful to deal with! The house is really set up for larger families and I was worried it was more house then my husband and I needed. But we thoroughly enjoyed the house, it had everything we needed and more and we loved the privacy. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and yet it was just a short jog into town. As it turned out it was unseasonably Hot and having our own private pool was such a plus... we also really enjoyed playing horseshoes! Highly recommended, Relaxing fun getaway!

We enjoyed our stay at 1000 Acres Retreat. The property was just as described and the location was wonderful. It is in town, but in an area which is private. We also enjoyed hours of entertainment playing ping pong, chess, and checkers. Thank you and we will probably return this summer.

The property was exactly as it was described. Excellent condition, near downtown, excluded area across from the national forrest. Marvelously maintained with full aminities. The photos depected were very accurate. The upkeep and cleanliness was also what we expected. The owners were exceptionally helpful and available. We had our entire family with us and they were all very impressed with our stay. We all highly recommend this as a very advantageous place to stay for a short or long-term visit to Hot Springs!

Home away from home

Guest: Robbie (Ft. Worth, Tx)
Date of Stay: 10/09/10 Review Submitted: 10/17/10

My family and I spent two days and nights in this lovely place. It was spacious, exceptionally clean, well furnished and the owner was gracious and very friendly. There were so many amenities such as the very clean pool, the large patio with ping pong table and grills, the large yard for activities, croquet set, brochures for area attractions. It was in a very quiet area but very close to downtown. We were delighted and highly recommend it. It was well worth the price.

Owner response:Thanks, Robbie. Hope to see you again in Hot Springs.

Loved the pool!

Guest: TJ (Paragould, AR)
Date of Stay: 08/23/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

We rented the house because of the private pool. Our 3 year old really enjoyed playing golf and LOVED the pool!! We were in it almost the entire time we were there. There were plenty of rooms for our family and some friends. The beds could have been more comfortable but not a big deal. The home is very secluded and private. We enjoyed our stay so much we decided to stay an extra night. Thank you John for a very relaxing vacation.

Not What We Expected

Guest: Texas Pride (Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

About all that was accurate in the description was the location and layout. The house is very roomy, but untidy. Right after we got there we noticed floors dirty, rugs dirty, in places we had not traveled while unloading. Aplliances run down ( coffee pot old and stained, oven dirty and broiler element out, silverware and glasses in cupboards soiled with food and drink, gas grill filthy and no utensils to clean it, toaster oven nasty, wall plugs hanging out of walls, ceiling fans not working, lights come on and off at will). The owner has hand written notes and directions scotch taped to walls. A/C did not work properly. While it was a 100 degrees out owner asked us to turn off unit to keep it from freezing up. House would not get below 80 degrees midmorning till late at night. Putt Putt course had three hole broke and could not be used, pool had trash in it the day we checked in, no ping pong balls for the table, had to purchase our own, gas grill run out of gas in the middle of cooking dinner and there was no spare bottles. Very limited and poor selection of pots and pans to cook with (2 pots and 1 skillet, one mixing bowl). The beds were extremely old and uncomfortable. The isolation of the home and the "type" of neighborhood surrounding it would make me uncomfortable with my wife or daughters going there for a "Girls Getaway". We travel quit a bit and have rented homes from Estes Park, Colorado to Panama City, Florida, two to three trips a year, and this was by far the most disappointing stay that we have ever had. I would not recommend this particular place to anyone.

Owner response:First bad review. Let me respond. Our housekeeping crew has been cleaning for 30 years and are top notch in town. Shocked when I heard that. Broiler element was out, right there. Coffee maker older - right there too, but works great, is stained at the top. One mattress borderline so being replaced this week. Cups and dishes all ran through dishwasher- All clean! One of 7 ceiling fans not working, the cord out was yanked out a week b4 and replacement part was on the way in. We supplied a floor fan in its place till the part came in. Putt Putt is a new addition and still waiting for final carpet on two holes, but cheaper than Pirate golf :) Gas grill is renters responsibility to clean I could not find plugs hanging out of walls. We are in the forest. Leaves can fall and get sucked into the filter system despite our diligent pool maintenance. Because of this, we make a point to check the pool before check-ins to clear the pool and check the PH- but trash? 4ton central Trane A/C unit new in 2009. Unfortunately the weather was 104 for 5 days. Offered a extra window unit for them but renters declined the offer. I told them that in the morning a defrost cycle could kick it up a notch, but wasn't sure. You can't chill a house at 104- It will get 79 in the day. Our HVAC professionals have told us that AC units are can bring inside temp down about 25 degrees cooler than outside. I feel bad for them coming during that heat spell. I can't guarantee weather. It was incredibly hot. Ping pong balls & gas are always stored in pool house. I told them at check in to call if they needed anything. I am only 1 mile away and always willing do do what I can to make my renters stay a great one. Would they have called me, I would have given them this information. I want to emphasize that even though we do our best at check-in to give a thorough tour of house as well as where to find things such as ping pong balls, extra dishes, gas, etc. one only needs to call and ask if needed. This is a house in the woods and borders the National Park so it is isolated. Hot Springs is an old town and offers much with its rich history and beautiful landscape. We provide a video to give potential renters the best description possible of this house and its surroundings. This home may not be in a subdivision or a Hilton, but it is a wonderful clean private family house fully capable of offering the very best setting for great memories- See other reviews

If you are looking for a place close to everything in Hot Springs yet quiet and secluded this is the place for you. We loved that it was so secluded yet minutes from everything. The house was just as described. Plenty of room for everyone. Every thing you need is furnished except food. Everyone loved the pool and all things to do. (ping pong, mini golf, ect.) We saw deer every evening and some mornings. Very quiet and relaxing. The owner is very nice and helpful. If we go back, we would love to stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at this well equipped home just minutes from everything. The pool and outdoor patio with grill was a big hit with young kids and older adults. A great family place to base from while visiting the Hot Springs area.
