Located just one mile from the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone, Gray Wolf Cabin is the perfect place for wildlife watching in Lamar Valley, sightseeing in Yellowstone National Park, and trips to Cody, Wyoming and Red Lodge, Montana on some of America’s most spectacular roads. Lamar Valley has been called the Serengeti of North America due to the vast herds of elk and bison, and large numbers of pronghorn antelope, big horn sheep, coyotes, deer, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears and many birds including ravens and bald eagles. Since the reintroduction of the wolf in 1995, this valley has also provided almost daily sighting of wolves belonging to the Druid and Slough Creek packs.

Yellowstone National Park has one the world’s largest collections of thermal features. It provides an endless array of destinations, starting with Yellowstone Falls, Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs. There are thousands of geysers, fumaroles, mudpots, and hot springs for you to view. Seasonally, you can also soak in a wonderful natural hot tub at the Boiling River just north of Mammoth Hot Springs.

For an adventure outside of Yellowstone National Park, a two-hour drive will take you to Red Lodge, Montana over Beartooth Highway, one of America’s most beautiful roadways. Red Lodge is an old gold mining town, which has grown into a picturesque ski resort with numerous shops and restaurants. Heading to the east, the Chief Joseph Highway over historic Dead Indian Pass provides a wide vista over the Rocky Mountains. Chief Joseph Highway will take you to Cody, Wyoming, where there is a nightly gunfight and rodeo during the summer season. The Cody Museum contains five different sections, including western artworks, a wing with exhibits on Buffalo Bill Cody’s life, exhibits of the Plains Indians’ lives, a firearms exhibit, and a large exhibit of the wildlife of the area.

The cabin is located on one acre of secluded, wooded land, bordering on National Forest land. You can end your day with s'mores around a fire in the fire pit behind the cabin. For a short outing, you can make the 5-minute walk to a 60ft high waterfall or take the Bannock Trail into Cooke City.

Quite a Mountain Cabin!

We had smiles on our faces as we drove into the drive of the Grey Wolf Cabin. Our smiles remained as we walked through the front door and saw the homey interior with it's wrap-around deck and scenic views! It was better than the pictures. The kitchen was well-stocked, as was the cabin. Although we often cooked, we returned to a favorite restaurant of ours, The Bistro. We also tried the Beartooth Cafe for the first time and enjoyed it, too! The owner provided a well-organized binder filled with helpful information that also included local activities, attractions and restaurants. The cabin's library had wonderful, informative books about Yellowstone and the YNP area. The cabin was a wonderful respite after a long day of sightseeing. The comfortable porch swing would beckon us when we walked into our "home away from home!" The Grey Wolf Cabin is the best cabin we have rented thus far. Family members vacationing with us agreed! It will not disappoint!

Owner response:It is always nice to hear that our guests enjoy the cabin as much as we do! I am glad that our library on Yellowstone was a help in learning more about the environs. Hope to have you back soon!

We didn't want to leave!!

From the time we pulled up to the cabin we knew we'd made the right decision based on location alone! A cabin in the woods! Not to mention the proximity to my happy place - Yellowstone. You cannot go wrong renting this property. The furnishings, bedding, etc. are comfy and the kitchen has more than you'll ever need/use in the way of utensils for eating/cooking. We spent so much time in the park and beyond, that we didn't get to have as many fires in the outdoor fire pit as we had wanted to. We were visited by many birds, squirrels and, one early evening, a fox on the deck. She was a beautiful little thing. While in Yellowstone we saw wolves, coyotes, grizzlies, black bear, moose, etc. Oh yeah, and the ever-present bison. Doug M. is a great info resource and SO, SO nice. If you are looking for putt-putt, family style restaurants and shopping, this is not the place for you. If you love nature and adventure...look no further. I absolutely can't wait to go back. Hey Christy....what's the chance you'll rent to us by the month? Thanks so much for sharing your incredible cabin with us.

We were very happy with our stay at Grey Wolf. The location of the cabin was wonderful, surrounded by mountains, trees and wildlife. The cabin itself was comfortable and roomy for our family of five and offered us the much needed storage room for all of our belongings, including coolers and hiking gear. Conveniently located near the northeast entrance of the park, we often spent our mornings in Lamar Valley watching wildlife. We would recommend this place to family and friends.

Grey Wolf Cabin is Magnificent!

My wife and I researched and planned our trip to the YNP area for nearly a year. We searched for the perfect accomodations near the NE entrance to the park as we are wildlife watchers and this area was where we wanted to spend most of our time. I had nearly given up on finding a private setting which was as near to remote as possible but with ammenities and comfort of home. We absolutely did not want to stay a week in a small, crammed up motel type setting or share a lodge with other people. I luckily happened on the Grey Wolf Cabin owned by Christy and Paul Gerrits on VRBO. We fell in love with the pics of it on the internet but were still skeptical about maybe it being too good to be true as we have experienced before. This place was heaven and the owners are so very professional and honest. Their hospitality is unsurpassed. Christy stayed in touch with me by phone and email for a few months prior to our arrival, giving us tips and recommendations for our stay and it was a tremendous help. She even called the cabin to check on us during the middle of the week. The little town of Silver Gate is a quaint little town with very unique people and they too, welcomed us. The area is fabulous for wildlife, scenery, and history. The little waterfall behind the cabin is wonderful as you can easily hike to it and can even hear it on quite nights while you sleep. You are right on the Bannock trail which is peaceful, rich with history, scenery, and wildlife. We saw coyotes, deer, and a bear in the yard of the cabin. Bring your binoculars, camera, your hiking shoes, and your bear spray. I would recommend this cabin to anyone and we do plan to return one day. The owners are first class.

There's no place like a home in the woods. To call Grey Wolf a cabin is almost an insult, yes it's in the woods and you can sleep there, but it's more an oasis and the walk to the waterfall is just down the road. Grey Wolf is so beautiful and is well stocked and has wildlife all around it. Do Not pass up the opertunity to stay here. It says one bedroom, but a whole family could live in the hugh lot upstairs. The house has all the aminities one could possibly want or need. Thank you so much Christy for sharing your home with us. I truely hope that we can make this trip again...soon!!!

Greetings from Iowa! We have returned home and are attaching a picture of your backyard moose. We found Grey Wolf cabin an ideal and delightful place to base camp our hiking and wildlife viewing in Yellowstone. We were surprised to see how well stocked the cabin was, and found everything to be in wonderful condition. We saw wolves every day, including 10 of the Druid pack on Friday, along with numerous coyotes, elk, eagles, mt. bluebirds, and bison. The elk were not observed until Thursday, after the passing snow and cold front, but then came down from the mountains and we got to see some harem gathering activity. We were limited to one grizzly sighting, and were told they are feasting on a good pine nut crop in the high country. We also heard the park had conducted an aerial survey in the high mountain scree slopes and counted 60+ grizzlies feasting on cut worm moths. Our loss in sightings is hopefully their gain in health and vigor. Thank you for the opportunity to use your facility, and we hope to visit you again. Respectfully, Leland and Sarah Groves

We had a great one week stay at the Grey Wolf cabin in mid July. It is perfectly situated for easy access to both Yellowstone and the Beartooth Mountains. The cabin was very clean, spacious, private and is just a moderate walk (one mile) from Silver Gate or a few minute drive to Cooke City. We loved the backcountry hiking opportunities in both Yellowstone and the Beartooths and saw a ton of wildlife in just one week -- black bears (nearly every day), grizzly bears, wolf, coyotes, elk, bison, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mule deer, bald/golden eagles, osprey and much more. We definitely hope to return again!

We had a wonderful week at the Grey Wolf Cabin. We loved being able to cook and do laundry and the fire pit gave us the enjoyment of "camping" without freezing or being in the rain! Have to have the s'mores. The kids loved the loft....and never even asked to turn on the tv...so it must have been fun! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay....we will definitely be back!

Date of Stay: 04/24/09 Review Submitted: 04/24/09

I had the extreme pleasure of spending the month of March (2009) at Grey Wolf Cabin. Winter is a great time to experience Yellowstone with fewer visitors and the animals in their winter coats. The Wolves, Coyotes and Fox are perhaps more visible than at any other time of the year.Grey Wolf Cabin is in a tremendous location well off the main road tucked quietly in a forested area next to a spectacular mountain rising right off the front deck. During the winter very few of the cabins on the Bannock Trail are inhabited but you will run into an occasional neighbor skiing or snow shoeing in this Winter Wonderland. Those that I met were friendly interesting people. I love that Grey Wolf Cabin is a “Pet Friendly” place as I truly enjoy the company of my Golden Retriever “Raven”. It’s getting more and more difficult to find pet friendly places to stay so I hope others that bring their pets respect this privilege. It’s wonderful to have the space to have guests. My daughter was able to join me during her “Spring Break” from college. I was quite pleased with how prepared Grey Wolf Cabin is to handle our electronic age. There were lots of outlets to handle all our recharging devices for radios, computers, digital camera equipment and more. The full kitchen is great with everything you could possibly need from muffin tins to a microwave and everything in-between. Our meals were only limited by our imagination and not by the cooking wares that were available. Grey Wolf Cabin is the ideal place for long term stays with its comforts begging you to stay. My security deposit was cheerfully refunded in a timely manner. I would love to return in the future.Doug McLaughlinRochester, WA
