Welcome to Copper River Retreat
The property is located two hundred miles east of Anchorage and 100 miles north of Valdez in the heart of the beautiful Copper River Valley. Copper River Retreat is set in the small community of Copper Center which is accessed by the Glenn and Richardson highways. Copper River Retreat is a special retreat for couples, friends or families. We offer something for those seeking fun and adventure and for those seeking a little rest and relaxation.
All the cabins are beautiful, rustic Alaskan and were hand built by the owner using local materials, which includes the use of burl logs. Each cabin is a single story unit for easy access and is located in a picturesque, park like setting surrounded by Aspen and Spruce trees on three acres of private property.
Burl House is a large one bedroom, one bathroom cabin, including a kitchen/dining area with refrigerator and microwave. The living room has handcrafted built ins, two sofas and a loft. The bedroom has a full size bed. Cabin accommodates up to six people.
If you need more space please contact me for renting details on one of my other lovely cabins.
Copper River Retreat is centrally located near many local activities which include; hiking, wild life viewing, berry picking, photography and fish wheel viewing. There are several guided services also available nearby including; rafting, four wheeling, dog sled rides, jet boat rides and scenic flight seeing.
In season we can offer some of the world’s best salmon fishing and hunting. You can find most anything you need within 10 miles of our property at one of the several gas stations, mini markets, museums, gift shops, and restaurants in the area. Within a short driving distance there is an authentic Alaskan Roadhouse, Wrangle St. Elias National Park headquarter complex and the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
I would love to be your host and share my forty years of Alaska experience with you. I will be onsite to accommodate any guest needs, answer questions and provide ideas of how you too can experience Alaska.

Staying at Dan's cabin was the vacation of a lifetime. It is like camping out in the beautiful Alaska wilderness, with all the convienences of home. Plus grand hospitality of the owners. The setting of the cabins is complete relaxation, you hear nothing but the rustling trees and birds. And yet centrally located to so many activities that we could not finish in two weeks. And that is in addtion to the great fishing - you can have a splendid time even if you dont fish (like us). The cabins are two miles from the Wrangall Park headquarters, with nature tours and learning experiences. There is great river rafting, flightseeing to the majestic mountains, glacier hiking and climbing, and endless hiking. Or an easy drive to Valdez to cruise to see the Columbia glacier, and view and TOUCH the Worthington Glacier and numerous waterfalls on the way. The view everywhere is spectacular. And Dan is a great host and tour guide. He tops off a great holiday !!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I recently moved to Alaska from New Hampshire and spent my first month in the Retreat's Burl House. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! The tranquility, privacy, comfort and uniqueness of the Burl House and its setting is beyond description. Not only was it a wonderful experience for me but my two Dalmatian's thought that they had moved to doggie heaven. If you want to experience the "real Alaska" there is not better place. Copper Center is a wonderful little village with a great history to match. Dan is a real Alaskan who knows something about everything. He can talk about fishin, huntin and just about everything else. He was my host and became my friend. Whether you make this your Alaska home for a night, a week or a month...you'll be very glad that you did. You'll spend some time in a very special place that I consider a true work of art- Alaska style and comfort at its finest. And you'll never forget it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We spent a few days in the Burl House at Copper Center Retreat and it was great!. The cabin sits in the middle of a birch forest that is just beautiful! Dan, the owner is more then willing to show you or point you in the direction you need for sight seeing, fishing or sharing all his experience with you. The cabin, which has been hand made by him, has all the comforts that you need. And you feel like you are in a corner of heaven...yet just a few minutes from whatever else you may need. Great place to stay and we will be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

If the call of the wild is ringing you, Copper Center Retreat is the answer! We've had the pleasure of staying here twice and highly recommend it. The cabins are pieces of art, and your host is a wealth of knowledge on the area and local wildlife. Our time flew by far too fast, even with all the daylight!Did you find this review helpful? What an experience! My mother and I had the trip of a lifetime when we traveled September 2007 to Copper Center staying at the Burl House. What a gorgeous property and everything you could possibly need is close at hand. The host was extremely knowledgeable about the area and even provided us with a personal tour. The craftsmanship of these cabins is amazing and everything is kept very clean. If you want to experience Alaska this is the place to go!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We visited Alaska in the summer of 2007 and stayed in one of the cabins. Our host was very gracious and went above and beyond to enhance our experiences. The long daylight hours would have made challenges for getting our son to sleep, but we were pleasantly surprised with window coverings that allowed for peaceful rest. Just one of the thoughtful things our host did to make us feel welcome and cared for. The trip to Valdez is GORGEOUS and an easy day trip. The town of Copper Center is friendly and quaint. The craftsmanship of the cabins is something we had never seen before. We enjoyed our stay and hope that anyone else visiting would have as great of an experience!Did you find this review helpful?
