We stayed in the downstairs college and it was perfect for a family of 4 with two young kids. The house is very nice with great finished, comfortable beds and more. It was great having a fenced in yard for our little kids to run around and the LOVED the outdoor shower and it was nice being off the "main" road. We were able to get to the beach in less than a minute and were only a short walk to town. We will definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

What a great home! It really is only a couple minutes walk to Hanalei Bay beach. It is also just a short walk to the pier where you can fish or start a boat trip to the Napali coast. It is only about a 10 minute walk to downtown Hanalie! We got to stay a week at this amazing place. The house has a great open layout, it is nicely decorated, and has a very comfortable king bed in the master bedroom. The owner was easy to work with and gave great recommendations about places to go. The yard is fenced in keeping the chickens and roosters out so it was quiet in the mornings. The street is a cul-de-sac so there was no traffic noise. It also stayed very cool with the windows open in the evenings. No need to look for anywhere else to stay but here.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) stayed in the Cottage for 9 nights and I was very impressed with how nice a place this was. The pictures do not do it justice. It was outfitted with excellent quality appliances, utensils, towels, etc..Even the bed in the master BR was a Tempur-pedic! Since I have one at home, this was awesome to find in a rental. The gas BBQ was the only thing in bad shape. And since you have to BBQ some of the excellent local (and expensive!) fish, a BBQ is a must. Sarah quickly responded by letting us use the one from next door since no one was there. The shower outside was wonderful, but if someone is staying in the loft unit, there may be a bit of timidness if they have the blinds open. Sarah was quick to respond, easy to work with, and very accommodating to my mistakes. The location rocks! My only regret was that I didn't rent a surfboard the day we arrived for the whole stay. We WILL be coming back to this place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I were on our last vacation ( baby-moon!!??) before having our first child, and chose Sarah's cottage for the holiday. The house is beautifully kept, clean and well maintained. We loved the open, airy feel and felt Sarah really paid close attention to detail when designing this wonderful home. Literally 2 min walk to the beach, and 8 min walk into the center of Hanalei Town, the house is perfectly located. Not only is the interior well-looked after, but the garden is beautifully manicured and private. The outside shower was my favorite feature of the house, and many a hot shower after a beach day, was enjoyed outside in the warm breeze! Overall, we would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone coming over to Kauai. Plenty of activities close by including surfing, swimming and hiking, make Hanalei Bay an awesome destination for every kind of vacation. We'll be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The walk to the beach from the cottage is literally 3 minutes, tops. The home is perfect for a family of 4 or two couples. With a well appointed kitchen and spacious living area, the cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need. The beds and pillows are comfortable as well. The walk into town is about 5- 10 minutes allowing easy access to restaurants and shops. We will definitely stay here again and recommend this cottage to our friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family rented this property for 10 days end of July and early August '11. I'll start with the location. It is really a 2 minute walk to the pavilion beachfront park. Really makes multiple trips to the beach and back so convenient. Need something from the room, no problem! The location on Hanalei Bay is perfect as you get the bay and the Napali mountain range and waterfalls in the same eyeshot. Pavillion park has showers, bathrooms and picnic tables and a lifeguard tower. Really convenient to town too for the restaurants and grocery store. Just a few blocks to walk or drive. Truly remarkable beauty, the best the islands has to offer, this coming from a former Kamaainna who has seen much of Hawaii. The house is beautifully finished, kept and decorated. We really enjoyed the yard which has a outdoor shower, perfect for a quick rinse when coming from the beach. Private enough that our 12 year old boy felt comfortable enough au natural. The kitchen was very well equipped and even had sharp knives (pet peeve of mine). We also took the adjoining space which the owner usually occupies. This space was just wonderful with great light and being some steps up had great breezes flowing thru. The owner was so great to deal with, very responsive and helpful and completely unobtrusive. Book this place, you will be glad you did! Aloha, JAD and familyRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: I am a real estate broker and love the lifestyle here. There are so many outdoor activities to choose from (hiking and running trails, surfing, snorkeling, stand-up paddle board, golfing, tennis, mountain biking and riding beach bikes along the streets in Hanalei). The relaxed and friendly lifestyle is unique to Hanalei in particular. When you cross the one lane bridge into Hanalei Valley you can feel the shift in the slower relaxed way of life. The beautiful sunsets over Hanalei Bay and the occasional water falls nestled among the majestic beauty of the Hanalei Mountains are several reasons that visitors and locals alike keep coming back to Hanalei. I feel blessed to have been able to live Hanalei and experience the true aloha of the island.
Why the Owner Chose Hanalei:
When I came to Kauai for the first time, I new Hanalei was special; the long sandy beaches, water sports, hiking trails and blend of cultures all create Kauai's beauty. I decided to buy a vacation rental in this location in Hanalei as it is close to many sandy beaches, hiking trails, farmers markets, shopping and small cafes.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You walk out the front door and less than 5 minutes you are at the beach. The town center is just a few blocks away where you will find dining and entertainment. Drive a few miles down the road and you are at the most amazing hiking trails.
