Pretty roomy place in a nice location. Everything you need is provided especially extra towels. However we couldn't sleep due to the train noise! Every hour at night we heard the screeching and choochooing sounds from the bypassing trains. If I knew the trains pass by so often and make ton of noises, I wouldn't have rent it it the first place. Nowhere in the description warns us about the trains. Really disappointed to hear the nice river flow sound at night, only to be drown away by the train noises. Don't recommend this place if you have decent to good hearing. Oh and the toilet seat downstair is pretty rough, carpet is dirty, and the beds squeak a lot (springs are broken I think).Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks for your comments however the beautiful Sacramento River winds through the canyon as well as the train which made Dunsmuir Famous. The town is proud of it railroad history and you can find evidence of that throught the area. We do list on our site that guests will hear the train go by. We apologize for your discomfort.

We rented this property for my husband's 60th birthday and invited 3 other couples. We expected warm days and fishing but we were snowed in. Could have been a disaster, but this property is very spread out with lots of privacy for all, and we were comfortable staying "in" all weekend. The kitchen is large and comfortably sits 8 adults; as with the living room. The house is clean and well-maintained. All of the bedrooms are large enough for a couple and most do not share a wall with another bedroom. There are lots of steps so probably not well suited for young children. The train travels by several times per night, but we all found the sound of the train charming, and may of us are light sleepers. Walking distance to town. Fabulous dinner at Madelena's. We had a question for the management over the weekend (needed a shovel for the snow) and they were very attentive and responded quickly to our request. We are all planning to stay here again. Overall, a fabulous weekend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Five adults stayed for three nights with plenty of room to spread out. Well equipped kitchen to cook and serve full meals. Central location for hiking, fishing and exploring the Shasta region. House was clean and inviting. Large deck overlooking the Sacramento River is relaxing setting for morning coffee and afternoon drinks. Would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
