So Relaxing

Guest: ssabalka (Littleton)
Date of Stay: 04/25/12 Review Submitted: 05/02/12

This is our first time to stay in this cabin but our second time to rent one of Michael's Cabins. We loved our last stay that this is now our favorite get away spot. All the cabins are clean and very comfortable. This cabin was larger which we liked even though we ony used one bedroom. We come for piece and quiet and that is exactly what we got. We plan to return many times before winter. We are so glad we found this great get-away! You cannot go wrong.

Charming Wintery Mountain Experience

Guest: Patty (Culver City, California)
Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/11/12

This was our first "White Christmas" and the experience for my family was extraordinary. Our host had recommended a few activities in the area well before my arrival so we were prepared to fall in line with the local culture and flavor of mountain living during the holidays. Some highlights were Christmas Eve dinner and live music at the local historic inn and ice skating and fireworks at "Skate the Lake" on New Years Eve. Every morning I awoke to a phenomenal sunrise and I would venture into the snow to capture photos of the mountain range and surrounding wilderness. The cozy cabin itself was very clean and equipped with everything we needed to feel like a home away from home. And with 2 feet of snow falling just before our arrival in the late night on December 23rd, the whole wintery holiday was magical and charming. As we drove into this small mountain community on the first night, the snow sparkled from the headlights and I was captured by the intense and surreal beauty. Being a native Floridian, I was a little aprehensive about driving in the snow; however, I had rented a small SUV and found all the roads leading to the wilderness cabin were well plowed and maintained and our host had plowed the driveways such that I was able to access the property with no problems whatsoever. We were unpacked and safe inside with a glowing fire within 30 minutes. The next day our host helped the kids cut a small Christmas tree and even Santa knew where to find us. We had a wonderful and charming wintery mountain experience with the help of our very conscientious and friendly host. I have already recommended a visit to this property to my aunt, mother and best friend....an extraordinary jewel in the mountain wilderness.

My wife and I needed a break from the hustle and bustle of life and this cabin was the cure. It was an amazing retreat with a wood burning stove, comfy bed and deer walking by the property on a daily basis. The owner is wonderful and very accomodating. I highly recommend this property and owner. My wife and I are already planning our next getaway!

3 Great days!

Guest: Grizzly (Malta, IL. USA)
Date of Stay: 09/29/11 Review Submitted: 10/09/11

After much research, my wife and I decided to stay at Michael's cabin, in Evergreen. It turned out to be an excellent decision! The location was remote enough for us to enjoy time to ourselves, and "hang out" with the wildlife. A daily visit by the mountain foxes, and the mule deers (?) pleased us very much. The cabin itself was spotless, and exactly as described. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather to view the changing Aspen trees, and go hiking. Michael was very helpful, giving us great advise as to good hiking trails, scenic drives, and places to dine. On a scale of 1-10, this trip was a 10! Thanks for everything Micheal, we'll certainly return!

Stayed in February and September

Guest: Jim (Omaha, NE)
Date of Stay: 09/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/13/11

My wife and I just returned from second stay this year. The view from the sitting area and back deck was fabulous both times. During Sept we actually felt fortunate on the coldest rainiest day to make a small fire to take the chill off. You can watch the sunrise from the sitting area which we did in Feb, but this time we watched alot from the perfectly placed kitchen table with a cup of coffee as the mountain and forest came alive. Be sure to raise the shade on the door in kitchen so you can look towards the forest. We came up for the mountain view, but found ourselves sitting alot on the front porch appreciating the forest view. Not many places you can go with decks on both sides of the cabin and totally distinct views. Its like being in two locations at once. Being the second time we could start to tell some of the red foxes apart by how much of the black fox they have in them. I think the male black fox rules the mountain and we saw him quite a bit this time. Thank you Micheal for being a perfect host and for building the wood table for the back deck. There is an endless amount of things to do in Evergreen. You are also an easy drive away from great places like Breckenridge, Silverthorne and casinos. This time I took in the Sage Flyfishing 101 class at the Blue Quill Angler in Evergreen and had a great time with my classmates (all local from Denver) and two of the guides, Cody and Gary. If you are looking for something different to do this is it. Sorry for the length, but I really could go on and on about Michaeal's cabins and Evergreen.

Fabulous Mountain Getaway

Guest: Jeanne (League City, TX)
Date of Stay: 08/26/11 Review Submitted: 09/02/11

My girlfriend and I just returned home from a four day getaway weekend at the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon. The cabin was everyhing and more that we expected from the descripion and previous reviews. The panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding mountains afforded an everchanging scenic extravaganza, starting with a beautiful sunrise every morning. We heard that there are over 50 species of birds in the surrounding area and we are sure that we saw at least half of them during our visit. We also were paid a visit by the resident red fox. The town of Evergreen is very charming and is only a short drive down the mountain where there are shops, a winery and the Little Bear Saloon which has live music most nights. Michael, the owner, was very helpful and available to answer our questions at all times. I would definetly like a return visit to this property. I think it would be especially nice during the fall when the leaves change colors .... maybe catch the first snowfall.

perfect mountain getaway

Guest: Parke (Kansas City, MO)
Date of Stay: 08/17/11 Review Submitted: 08/24/11

Just returned from a week in the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon. Very clean and comfortable cabin. Perfect for two people. Very comfortable bed. It was very hot in Denver the week we stayed in the cabin, but it was very comfortable in Evergreen. The stars at night are incredible! Wildlife is abundant. We spent our last night watching a pair of foxes play, hunt and sleep literally right outside our windows - it was fascinating. Evergreen is a nice, small mountain community. Not at all touristy. The area is outstanding for mountain biking. Tons of trails in numerous expansive open-space parks in and very close to town. I could have used another week just to get a taste of what was available. Definitely worth a return trip. Michael was very helpful and available when needed with a quick phone call. He obviously cares about the property and making your stay enjoyable. I would recommend this cabin to couples looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway from it all. Both of our cell phones worked at the cabin (Sprint and ATT) and the wifi came in handy also. Overall a great vacation!

Another Great Stay

Guest: Carol and Tom (Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 07/22/11 Review Submitted: 07/27/11

This is our third stay at one of these mountain properties and our second at Wilderness Cabin. It's a beautiful setting and a great place. Everything is always well kept and clean. Our daughter was with us this year, and we made use of the second bedroom, which was comfortable and well appointed. The views are just what you would want out of a Rocky Mountain stay. Our last morning there helped us understand why it is called Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon, when two elk bucks, one about 12 pts., were grazing right outside the kitchen window! We'll be there again.

Amazing!!

Guest: Wendy (Fillmore, California)
Date of Stay: 07/18/11 Review Submitted: 07/31/11

I honestly can't say enough about how wonderful this cabin is. The first time doing the drive was a bit different because it is mountain dirt roads. However you are going up into the mountains, that is what you should expect. Because you are in the mountains the wildlife we saw was spectacular! Plenty of mornings and evenings we sat on the porch and a huge male deer would walk right in front of the cabin. Every morning an adorable fox would walk across the driveway. They both must have the same routine. My husband and kids went for a walk every morning and always saw at least 2-3 deer. We got some amazing pictures! The views are amazing too. Now the cabin, feels more like a home than a rental cabin. It was so spotless and clean when we arrived. You have to leave it as you found it and wash the bedding before you leave. Which you feel obligated too because you want this place looking fantastic for the next guest. It was way cleaner than my house ever is. The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen had almost everything you need. I read a previous review that said it didn't have the proper cooking pans or utensils for cooking eggs, so I brought my own. I really wish I hadn't because it had ALOT of pots and pans and plenty of cooking utensils. Really, all you need is some food and you're good to go. The only thing we brought was extra toilet paper and paper towels because my family uses quite a bit. We stopped at the store in Evergreen and picked up some food and barbequed one night. Another night we ate at this great pizza place right next to a samll river in downtown Evergreen. Don't remember the mane but ask Micheal, it is a cute place. Again it is amazingly beautiful and so immaculate. If you stay in any of Micheal's cabins, please please take care of them. The beauty of the outdoors matched the beauty of the inside of this cabin! We were missing home but when we got back to California, the next morning we said, "We want to go back!" Hopefully we will in the next couple of years.

We're pretty picky people overall, and we were pleasantly surprised how clean and accomodating the cabin was. Michael did an incredible job with the directions, and we immediately knew we made a great choice when entering the cabin for the first time. Michael quickly stopped by to say Hi, which was great to put a face with the name. There's not much to say other than if you're looking for a remote place to stay that has a good central location (access to Denver, Boulder, Ski Communities) --look no further. I'm almost hesitant to leave this good of a review because I'm afraid future availability will be scarce. Grab it while you can, we certainly will!

The cabin was as I had expected and was not disappointed. We were looking for a cabin that we would stay comfortably for 3 nights while doing the tourist thing throughout the days in nearby Evergreen and Georgetown. I get tired of eating out while on vacation at times so it's nice to come back to the cabin and light up the grill for some hamburgers. Mike visited us and talked to me about the area and things to do while we were there such as some good, popular hiking trails in Evergreen. My wife enjoyed it, the kids enjoyed it, the directions were good, and I would recommend it for anyone traveling to the area.

Wilderness Cabin is the perfect getaway!

Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 06/09/11

Renting the cabin was easy. Disclosures on price and deposits were clear. Owner sent directions and they were easy to follow. Just beware that there are some pretty steep dirt roads up to the cabin. Cabin is surrounded by other cabins so you're not alone, but the view is spectacular and the cabin is just enough space for 1-2 people. Fully stocked kitchen so just bring your meals and you're set. Even has a washer and dryer. Didn't see a telephone though it's listed in the amenities. Owner is easy to work with and always available by phone if you have a problem or question. Great place to rent.

Owner response:Please note that the "Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon" is very comfortable to sleep 5 guests having 2 serparate bedrooms, both with Queen beds and a twin role-away twin size bed for a 5th guest. Many of our valued guests have stayed with families of Mom, Dad and the 3 kids. The nearest other private family residential home to the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon in 125 feet away; much more than a stones throw. The home that is 125 feet away is our private residence and location of our convienent office. Our other visible Vacation Homes from the "Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon" are 200 to 1000 feet+ which provides very nice privacy buffers. Please take time to read a couple of the reviews that have been entered below by families that have enjoyed thier stay with a 5 person guest list for a week or more at the "Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon". As our listing clearly states " Telephone is "Avaialble" at our office which is open to our guests for telephone use 24 hours/day. We post a message in a mutitude of locations at the residence to "Please call us any time if we can be of assistance" (this certainly would include a request for the location and use of telephone.) The listing does not say that there is telephone service iin the residence. And please remember that when you travel to Colorado and enjoy the wonderful alternative of renting a private family stand alone residential home in a rural small town Mountain Community thru VRBO or Homaway listings you will always encounter meanignful up and down hill driving on both well maintained hard surface and improved gravel roads throughout the Rockyy Mountains. That said our homes are fully accessable for your Vacation Lodging choice year round and we look forward to your visit both in summer and winter. Sincerely.. Your Evergreen Colorado Lodging Host Michael Carter 303-946-0726

We stayed at the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon for a week while in the relocating process. After house hunting in the area it was a perfect refuge to relax and forget the pressures we where under. We had many neighbors roaming around. A red fox would make a daily appearance along with a one time appearance of a black fox with white boots. Now that is something most don't see and we saw it while staying here, lucky us! Micheal was very helpful with the cabin and pretty much everything else we needed. When I bring family out to CO and should we need extra space I know just who to call! Thanks again!

Our stay at the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon was a very memorable experience. I wouldn't say this was a "CABIN", "Cottage", describes it better. We felt like we were at home, any and everything that we needed was available for our use. The owners knowledge of the area was a tremendous help. We will be sure to spread the word to our family in friend here in Flordia. Thank you again Michael for sharing your home with us :-)

Great Weekend Getaway for Denverites!

Guest: Contemplative Hiking Girl (Denver)
Date of Stay: 12/31/10 Review Submitted: 01/02/11

My husband and I wanted to spend the weekend in the woods enjoying nature, but without a long drive from our home in the suburbs of Denver. This was exactly what we had hoped for! Quiet, charming, surrounded by trees and close to some fantastic hikes (which I hadn't done before). We came here after a snowstorm that left the roads slick and snow-packed. Michael was absolutely right when he said you need a 4WD vehicle. If it got any slicker, I would also recommend putting chains on your SUV/truck/Subaru :-) But we had no real problems getting up and down the hills. We always appreciate the option of a reasonably priced cleaning or cleaning it ourselves. We opted to clean the place ourselves since it's small and easy to clean up. This made this a good deal for a weekend getaway (affordable). Although it was way too cold to enjoy the deck and porch (near zero both days), I can imagine this place is so relaxing and awesome in the summer - great sunrises, beautiful views. The windows and views from the cabin were really the BEST PART of the place. Loved it! We also liked the privacy. Some VRBO owners "insist" on coming over to say "hi." Glad we didn't have to stress that and could sit in our jammies and relax. That's what a vacation rental is for.

This was our families second Christmas trip here in Evergreen. Both times we have stayed at one of Michael's cabins. He is an AWESOME host. The cabins were very clean. The kitchen had all the utensils, pots, and pans that I needed to cook with and if it didn't Michael would go and get it for us. Michael showed us everything that we needed to know about the cabins, (ex. like how to use the wood burning stove), he took my kids right outside the cabin and let them pick out a Christmas tree and cut it down. That was very special to us. I would definately recommend this cabin to my friends and family. Thanks Michael again for making our trip so special. See ya Chirstmas 2011.. Enjoyable Getaway (with some reservations)

Guest: Keith (Springfield, IL)
Date of Stay: 11/12/10 Review Submitted: 11/23/10

I stayed here with my daughter and grandson for an early Christmas (since I live in central Illinois and they live in the Denver area). We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin and Michael's hospitality. There were, however, a couple of things that would have made it even more enjoyable. While we tried very hard to follow the policy of cleaning and "leaving the cabin as we found it," it was evident that the previous guests did not. The fireplace had a lot of ashes which we cleaned out before starting the weekend. There was a pair of socks in the middle of the floor in one of the bedrooms, apparently left from the previous guests. There was a soiled paper towel in the middle of the floor in the laundry room part of the bathroom. The floors didn't look like they had been vacuumed or swept very well. It made me wonder what the cleaning people who are scheduled to arrive promptly at 10am the day of your departure actually do. Other than that, in the kitchen, we ran out of paper towels and could find no more in stock. That's not a big problem because we usually bring extra for cooking and cleaning, etc. But, as far as the cabin being fully stocked with everything a guest needs, that was not the case. Additionally, we like to do a lot of cooking when we're staying in cabins such as this. We didn't find a lot of things we needed, such as aluminum foil. There was no spatula for turning pancakes, eggs, etc. The large spoon was missing all of its handle except for about an inch or two. While the rules were quite restrictive, we abided by them fully and left the cabin in much better shape than when we arrived. That's just what we do with any cabin visit we enjoy. As a side note, the photo of the deck in this listing appears to be from another property. There is no such view from the front or back porch of this property. Still, the cabin itself was beautiful, the furnishings were great, and we had a very enjoyable time, no regrets. And yes, I would highly recommend the cabin. I would only suggest that you bring extra items for the kitchen if you intend to do much cooking, and be prepared to possibly have to do a bit of cleanup from the previous guests.

Owner response:If you will review the list of published reviews by past guests you will find that we are often complimented on the cleanliness of this property by our guests. We appologize to this guest reviewer for the items found to be unaccepatable, ie. a piece of paper towel on the laundry floor, ( most likley dropped and inadvertantly left on our very clean off-white tile bath/laundry room floor during our housekeeping activities) a pair of socks found in the 2nd bedrrom, (we did not find the pair of socks noted left at the residence upon our entering for housekeeping) and although the floors had been swept and vacuumed by myself personnally we do not discount our guests findings that they "didn't look like they had been vacuumed or swept very well". From time to time, we may miss a small guest preperation detail but I personally do a final walk thru check list of every guest preperation detail when approving the residence "Ready For Check-in". As always, we are very appreciative of our guests observations and take very seriously our responsiblity to remain diligence in providing the perfectly prepared residence for your Vacation Home Arrival. Contained in our E-mailed Reservation Confirmation Documents "How to Preapare for Your Trip" clearly informs our guest that adequate paper products will be provided only for your initial arrival, and that guests should plan to purchase, along with thier grocery shopping, adequate paper procucts for thier individual volume personal usage requirements. We note on our reservation documents and in our "Hand Written" Personal Arrival Greeting" to "Please Call us if you Need". If a guests finds that an item of importance to thier stay, such as a specific kitchen utensil, is not present, with quick phone call to us, we will find and deliver that item to the guest emediatly. You will not need to bring any additional cooking or kitchen utensils for light or extensive meal prepration during your visit. The Kitchens in our Vacation Homes are fully equipped. When we are not informed of a guests additional needs, by a quick phone call, we cannot respond. As to the "Side Note" about the photo of the view from the deck it is taken from this property and is taken during a summer early morning sunrise. We appreicate the opportunity to clarify the observations and information provided in our valued guests reviews and encourage you to call us any time if your have questions Sincerely Michael - Owner - On-Site. My wife and I recently stayed in the Wilderness Cabin on the Canyon in the first weekend of October. From the moment I made the reservation, everything went great. Michael did a great job explaining everything and really has it down to an efficient process. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was exactly as advertised and maybe a little better. This location was perfect for our first trip to Colorado and was close to many attractions. Michael helped with an awesome recommendation that was probably my favorite part of the trip. It is obvious that Michael cares about his property and his renters and I would recommend his cabins to everyone.

This lovely cabin was near excellent and better than good. The road was dirt and would be difficult for some vehicles and the internet connection was sporadic. Michael was helpful and very pleasant with lots of good advice. The home was lovely and had everything you would need. The area had great wildlife and I was so happy to see a black fox. I would highly suggest this rental to all seeking views, solitude and a well appointed retreat. Another bonus would include that it is a pet friendly. You can't go wrong with this cabin!

Perfect retreat for couples - secluded, quite and romantic setting/scenery made my experience even more perfect. Michael - you are the perfect host, wished I had the time to have a chat and talk about motorcycle adventures. I am planning a return - try to make the next stay longer so we can have that chat.

This is our second stay at one of Michael Carter's places. The Wildereness Cabin on the Canyon was wonderful. It was roomy and very comfortable with tremendous views. I would say that it exceeded our expectations. The weather was pretty bad for mid-June with cold rain, hail and a little snow (hey, it's Colorado!), so we got some good use out of the glass front wood stove. Cozy-plus. We don't usually worry about a computer, but we had a little work to finish up. After a couple of days, we couldn't get the wi-fi connection any more. (Range issues with my wireless card or Michael's router...who knows?) When we let Michael know, he actually brought over a USB adapter for us to use, and we were back in business! Primo service. I'd recommend this place to any friend or relative.

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin, and we were very comfortable. It is a rustic style cabin, but nicely and comfortably furnished. The view from the back deck is very nice. The kitchen is nicely equipped if you want to cook a meal. The owner is very responsive to requests and communications.

We spent a weekend at this cabin and it was perfect. Everything is comfortable and impeccably clean. The views from all windows are spectacular. There's a nice creek within easy walking distance. You're really in the mountains at this place! We've rented other cabins owned by Michael and each is equally nice. We'll definitely be back.

We rented the cabin for our business partners to stay in. The were thrilled with the accommodations and the setting. They told me several times that I had made a terrific choice. 5 stars from them and from me.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin- the woodburning fire kept us cozy, the views were beautiful, and the home was comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Thanks to Michael's recommendation, we had a great snowshoe very close-by.

It was wonderful to escape for a weekend and relax. The Wilderness Cabin was exactly what we had in mind. The location was perfect, feeling like worlds away, but convenient enough that we were able to get into town, enjoy a great dinner and visit a local spa. The cabin was well prepared and cozy. Mr. Carter was prompt and professional with booking, directions and follow up. Thanks for the R&R!

We stayed here as an early Christmas present to ourselves. It was a dream. It was like a home away from home. So comfortable. The views were amazing and the hiking was incredible. And the dogs had a blast! They have never seen snow. Hopfully we can make this a yearly tradition.

What a wonderful experience my family and I had at the cabin over the Thanksgiving holiday. We found the cabin to be quite spacious and clean. It's was fully equipped with everything we needed. Amazing views surround this cabin. What a beautiful and peaceful setting. We enjoyed the many books, DVD's and games in front of the cozy fireplace. The location of the cabin was only a short drive from Denver, which makes it a wonderful weekend getaway. Michael was a great host, and is quite knowledgeable about the Evergreen area and all that it has to offer. In comparison, this cabin and the service provided is not surpassed anywhere in the area!

Excellent place in a perfect setting! Evergreen offered a lot to enjoy (downtown area, hiking, scenery, etc.). Michael went to great lengths to ensure our stay was the best experience for my reunion with my family after a year-long deployment. I couldn't ask for a better place to enjoy our time. The cabin was spacious, comfortable and clean. We'll be back soon! Thanks Michael for your service to my family; we had the best time!

We stayed in this cabin for a couple days in March and enjoyed it so much we decided to go back for a longer stay this summer. We just spent a week here and enjoyed every minute of it. We have stayed in many cabins and this cabin is the best equipped and most comfortable we have been in. Michael Carter the owner is a very gracious host and we look forward to another visit - would highly recommend.
