Private Rain Forest Home in El Yunque, Puerto Rico on Five Secluded Acres
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This beautiful large new, two air-conditioned bedrooms/one-bath home is nestled on 5 private secluded acres in the foothills adjoining the El Yunque National Forest rain forest. We are one of very few properties offering the actual experience of living in the rain forest.
Our home is an easy drive to the International Airport (SJU), old San Juan, the nightlife of El Condado and Isla Verde, world-famous beaches, golf courses, nature reserves, impressive underwater reefs and small cays. The nearby coastal area is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking and deep sea fishing. All this is a short distance from the house while you enjoy sleeping in the privacy & tranquility of the cool night breezes in the rain forest.
Our rainforest home is fully equipped with washer and dryer as well as wireless internet.
For the nature lover who seeks privacy, tranquility and the lush environment of the tropical rainforest, you have arrived.
Our home has a unique 'open-air' design, so that no walls or unnecessary obstacles block the way of communication, natural light or rich, fresh air. There is a fully equipped and functional kitchen along with a movable island. Two spacious air-conditioned bedrooms are on the lower floor, one of which has double doors that open onto the veranda. The entire second floor is a wide open loft with two outdoor decks. The loft itself is fully furnished with four large futons that transform into beds.
Guests will enjoy peaceful surroundings, lush vegetation, siestas in the hammocks on the expansive porch, great back-yard barbecues, unexpected rain followed by radiant sun and blue skies, sounds of the forest (especially the song of the coqui, the tiny tree frogs that welcomes the rain singing in unison), and marvelous morning walks along our private road.

My husband and I stayed at this incredible home for a week in May, and I am so glad I took the time to research rentals. Not only was the house perfect in every way, but there were tiny, dark condos for rent in other areas for lots more money - plus add-on charges. Here there was none of that. Pipo, the caretaker, let us know that it would be no problem at all if we called him for any reason. Everything was so ideal, that we didn't even need to call once.... The covered porch was where we spent our time when we weren't out exploring the mountains and beaches, small towns and snorkeling trips. We never even went into San Juan, because there was so much else nearby... It rained most every day for a time in this lush area, and we watched the jungle grow daily from this porch. We shopped and cooked and slept, and I could not think of a better paradise to be in....Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for the very generous comments. Our home seems to attract people who really appreciate its special features, which we are delighted to share with our renters.

We loved this house! Clean, well maintained, up to date. (The only slight complaint was lack of a second bathroom.) An AMAZING location in El Yunque National Park. We were serenaded to sleep by the songs of the coqui frogs. If you're a nature lover, this house will delight you. Birds, lizards, frogs, orchids, bromeliads... All kinds of wonderful things to discover. The location is secluded without being remote. All the conveniences of modern life are available just a short, pleasant drive away. I had cell service, and wifi worked fine. I wouldn't hesitated to recommend this property, and would certainly consider staying here again. Very reasonably priced, homey, comfortable.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

I just spent the most wonderful days with my husband away from the city and every noise and the crows. Our music became the songs of the birds and the view needless to say was our daily spectacle. The pictures don't represent its actual beauty and the magnificent environment in which we found ourselves. We were actually sad when it was time to leave. I would definitely return and I most recommend it!!!! I live in PR and this is by FAR the best place I have had the opportunity to stay in. Close enough to the beach and of course far enough from the crows, but magnificently located in the heart of a forest. Plenty of places to discover and enjoy. We thought about going out twice, we would rather just stay within the premises and cook our own dinner with their BBQ.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Away from the hustle and bustle of San Juan, this rain forest home is the perfect place to stay in Puerto Rico. It's close enough to San Juan where driving in for the day isn't out of the question. But it's also close enough to other PR attractions to make it a good place to get away from it all. The nights you'll spend here are unforgettable. It's pitch black at night and every coqui frog in the forest sings you to sleep. Normally living in an urban environment where the usual background noise is a passing car, this was a huge change. It took me a night to get used to it, actually, but once I was, it was pretty awesome. We were able to drive to many different spots on the island from this place. We were in driving distance from San Juan, Luquillo, Fajardo, Guavate, and of course the rain forest which made for a great week. The house itself is kind of an open air design. There are a lot of screened windows which we opened when we arrived and kept open the whole time. Breathing fresh air all the time is a huge plus. Plus it allows the sounds of the rain forest into the house more so you feel like you're sleeping outside. The bed was very comfortable and I was surprised how good the bathroom was. Good water pressure in the shower and not cramped at all. A good bathroom is highly underrated. We didn't use a number of the amenities, such as the A/C or washer/dryer, but they are nice to have just in case. One amenity I used quite frequently was the WiFi. I was able to check-in with family back home by sending quick emails and pictures. Nothing like making people jealous while they're shoveling the snow. The owner provided us with a packet of information before we arrived, which was very helpful, including directions on how to get to the house, which can be a little tricky the first time. The roads to get here are fairly narrow/windy and the locals prefer to push their cars to the limits zipping around the corners. If you pull off the road, they will go around you. No big deal. By the end of your stay, you'll being doing a little zipping around yourself, but I don't think I ever reached local status. Also, the traffic light at the intersection of the road you need to turn onto is broken and the road is very busy. Turning left can be difficult. I believe the owner provided an alternate route to get around this, but we didn't use it. I would definitely recommend this place. Quiet, affordable, and a great getaway.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Little did I realize when I arrived at the Rainforest House that I was going to a magical place. That I would be spending time in a beautiful lush space that made me wonder if all of Puerto Rico looked something like this at one time in its history. When I entered the house, I was greeted by fresh flowers, a spotless, tastefully decorated space that invited me to sit and rest. Being in a well-equipped house was exactly what I needed so that I could just focus on renewing myself. While I was there, I calmed my spirit and my mind by walking the labyrinth, I walked on the mud in my bare feet, admired the gorgeous gardens, ate costillas con vianda from El Verde BBQ, and slept peacefully! Having the beach close by was perfect, and because I was also planning time in Fajardo, the house is very convenient. My phone only worked in certain parts of the house, but because it has WiFi capacity, I just used it through WiFi. There was a phone there, but I didn't need it. The house is truly an oasis for us urban folks that land in Puerto Rico for a brief period and need to come back renewed to the hustle and bustle. I can truly say that my stay at the Rainforest House made it possible for me to return to New York re-energized. Now I'm planning a girlfriends' retreat in the spring. I can’t wait to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our family of three stayed here for four days in December 2011. This lovely home met all our needs for a great rainforest vacation. The location is wonderfully secluded--we didn't see another person in the area the entire time we were there--but an easy drive to El Yunque National Forest and the beach at Luquillo. The house is well-maintained, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is adequately supplied. We were happy to have washer and dryer available. The property is peaceful and lush. And the nightly coqui serenade is transporting. The friendly owners provided comprehensive information about the house and the surrounding area. Plenty of shopping is nearby. We liked the restaurants we tried: takeout from El Verde BBQ down the hill, the kiosks and King Seafood in Luquillo. We've already recommended this rental to friends and family, and we'd love to return someday.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a wonderful house -- well-built and comfortable. The owners provided very helpful information about the accommodations and area. We had a great time in the rain forest. The setting and sounds were truly amazing! I definitely recommend this property. We followed our stay here with a few nights in Old San Juan -- a perfect combination!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Long story made short.... we were having a terrible day when we arrived in Puerto Rico. The airport put one of our bags on the wrong plane, we got lost in the middle of a bunch of toll booths, we drove up to one toll booth thinking "C" meant you could use a card, and my wife could not find her wallet anywhere in the luggage while we tried to find change to pay the toll....with cars blowing their horns at us... Probably the worst imaginable start to a honeymoon. Then the call box to get into the community was broken, so we couldn't call to get in. We had to wait for someone to either come in or leave so we could get in. But once we saw the house, it's like everything was made okay. My wife's eyes shot open and she just went all over the place looking at the property. She took about 200 pictures of just how beautiful it was. I don't think we so much as heard a passing car our entire time there. We went during what is the rainy season in Puerto Rico, but that was actually a better thing! We could lay out on the hammock on the covered porch and listen to it rain. It was all the better at night as it brought the coqui frogs to life. It was nice to have a washer and dryer too, as we were able to pack a little lighter since we could do laundry halfway through the trip. It's only a 4-5 minute drive from the main road, and there's a grocery store right by there. You can save a lot of money on your trip by simply eating breakfast in everyday (not to mention you never have to get out of your pajamas). The place was immaculate, well-furnished, secluded, and my wife said she had never heard of ANYONE having a honeymoon nicer than ours. It's be a great place if you had a big family too...but I think it worked out amazingly well for just the two of us.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We stayed for a week last Jan. and found the house with it's beautiful landscaped gardens one of the most peaceful and comfortable houses we have stayed. And we have been traveling the caribbean for more than ten years now. The house was laid out very well, very open air feeling with all the windows. The Kitchen was very well equiped, we shopped local and did most breakfast and evening meals at home, the veranda across the whole back of the house was our favorite spot, ate all our meals there and read into the night laying in the hammocks, to say nothing of morning coffee to the sounds of the rainforest!! We were lulled to sleep every night with the sound of rain and woke up to sunshine-what more could you ask for!! Loved the house and hated to leave.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
