Why the Owner Chose Las Cruces

Southwest New Mexico is a unique part of paradise. Las Cruces and Old Mesilla have a distinctive history in an uncommon environment. Here are desert and mountains, wide open vistas and sunny skies. The sunrise and sunset are equally beautiful and the air is clean and refreshing. I feel happy and at ease in this warm, friendly community. Mesilla Abodes is both convenient and quiet. Just on the border of Old Mesilla with Las Cruces, access is easy from I-10 and to all points in both towns. Our beautifully landscaped complex has its own tranquil and appealing atmosphere.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo

Old Mesilla itself is one of the most interesting and well-preserved ‘New’ Mexican towns in the USA. I love to walk through the village in the early mornings and at sunset to enjoy the special beauty of the rustic dwellings, irrigation canals and pecan groves while the relationship changes between the sky and the earth.
The Organ Mountains, everybody’s favorite, are a wondrous place to explore up close or simply admire from a distance. I love to hike at Aguirre Springs or journey into Soledad Canyon. Soaking up the healing waters of the hot springs in nearby Truth or Consequences is also a joy for both body and spirit. The Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is a nifty gem with fabulous and unexpected exhibits. And, of course, Las Cruces has a wonderful thriving community of art galleries and artists - many are friends - and their original art is featured in Mesilla Abodes.

A
Old Mesilla Plaza

The central plaza still has its original design and functionality, and is the heart of Old Mesilla. Mariachi performances and local craft vendors are sometimes found here. Also home of the Fountain Theater - our quirky, local independent movie house, the Basilica of San Albino, plus restaurants, wine bars and shops for all tastes. Come with no expectations as it is a one-of-a-kind place!

B
Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park

Fine place for a walk. This small, new park has great Rio Grande environmental and restoration information as well as bird and wildlife exhibits.

C
Aguirre Springs

Aguirre Springs, nestled in an eastern slope of the Organ Mountains, offers awesome views of the Tularosa Basin, including parts of White Sands. About a half hour drive up Route 70, Aguirre Springs is a dramatic getaway into nature year round and a cool oasis in the summer. You can walk to the top of the Organs at Baylor Pass, do a cool four-mile loop amidst trees and canyons or have your own wonderful nature walk of any length. This is a great place for a picnic lunch too. Bring enough water as none is available up there. Watch for the road to the entrance on the right shortly after crossing over the ridge.

D
Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

This fascinating place is a real local cultural gem with thoughtful exhibits, a lecture series and interactive exhibits. They say it brings to life the 3,000 year history of farming and ranching in New Mexico - but that pretty much encompasses everything about rural New Mexico. Be sure to make time for this museum.

E
Branigan Cultural Center

Located in the downtown area of Las Cruces currently undergoing revitalization, Branigan Cultural Center is one of the city's terrific museums. The permanent exhibit on the history and culture of Mesilla/Las Cruces is fascinating. There are excellent traveling and temporary exhibits, often featuring local artists, as well as lectures, concerts and other events.

Owner's Map of Las Cruces

My favorite part of traveling is getting to know what is special about the new place, what the people are like and how life is lived there. There is a particular blend of old-world Mexican and the rural wild west here that intrigues and informs me. And it keeps calling me back. This un-retouched photo was taken at sunset on a full moon night deep in the dunes at White Sands National Monument.

Home away from Home

Guest: Lynne (Port Jefferson, New York, USA)
Date of Stay: 11/10/11 Review Submitted: 12/02/11

I stayed in this lovely condo for a few nights in November when visiting my son, an airman, stationed at Holloman AFB. From the moment we walked through the entry door, we knew this was a perfect choice. It was as nice as what he missed back in New York and it had all the amenities for me to make a few of his sorely missed home-cooked favorites! The description of this condo is not one bit exaggerated. Everything is as nice, if not nicer, than the pictures. Luxurious, eclectic, unique, comfortable, homey...Teresa was so helpful and answered all our questions regarding the area. I would recommend this property to anyone who is as discerning as I am and who has stayed in many places and knows a great one when they see one.

Hi there, Just wanted to thank you for allowing us to use your gorgeous condo in Mesilla last week. It was perfect for our needs and close to everything we wanted to visit. We appreciated friendly Theresa who was so sweet to let us know all about our place. We loved the muffins, such a nice treat! The whole weekend was great! We really enjoyed visiting our son, went on a cool hike, enjoyed fantastic food, and loved the warm weather. We are back in Michigan now facing our upcoming freezing winter! Thanks so much. We'll be in touch for our next visit to NM! You have a beautiful state! Sincerely, Kristine Schaeffer

Definietly recommend Carmen's suite

Guest: No nickname (Surrey BC, Canada)
Date of Stay: 08/09/11 Review Submitted: 09/11/11

Carmen's suite is a very comfortable home away from home, from the bed to the living room to the extremely well-stocked kitchen (we were very impressed). There was nothing left out. We stayed for 4 days but it would be excellent accommodations on a long term basis. Teresa was very friendly and helptul - a great manager. We could walk to Mesilla in just a few minutes and we used the suite as our base to explore Southern NM and just to relax by the pool or have morning coffee on the balcony to plan our days.

Wonderful place to stay

Guest: Jean (Tacoma WA)
Date of Stay: 04/22/11 Review Submitted: 05/25/11

Condo is as stated plus much more. It was the best 1 week stay. When we first arrived it was a little confusing since Theresa was unable to meet us and her family member met us who was very nice. We waited in the parking lot which is where we should have waited on the back of the condo but no one came so hubby went to investigate and he found her. So because of that I thought what have I done. So except for that our stay was wonderful. Not only is the condo the best ever but the people and town of Las Cruces are so warm and friendly. One of the highlights of our stay was eating breakfast on the balcony and hot air balloons floated by. What a treat. We can't wait to go back. Next time it will be for 2 weeks. Loved the comfy bed and having the washer and dryer was such a great thing. The only thing that could have been better is if it was on the first floor. It is hard for me to do the stairs with my bum knee but it wasn't that bad.

Couldn't have worked out any better!

Guest: D.D. ( Oakland, Michigan)
Date of Stay: 02/04/11 Review Submitted: 03/03/11

Everything was great! The location worked out nicely. We could walk to Mesilla for shopping, meals or just for excercise. The photos were exactly what the condo was like. It was very clean. It was decorated in southwest flair. It had everything you'd ever need and more. We would highly recommend this to anyone and we hope to return in the near future and stay here again.

Great Experience!

Guest: Carlos (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 12/06/10 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

We travelled to Las Cruces for the first time for some medical treatments and my wife and I were overjoyed that this vacation rental was better in person than in the pictures. The Manager and the Landlord were great and paid special attention to our needs. This place was perfectly stocked with everything we needed. It's nice to sleep in a place where you know that the owner cares about her property and the guests. Since we were there in December, it was a nice added touch that the manager came in while we were out and put up some Christmas lights and a cute little tree. My wife is pretty picky and she definitely enjoyed her stay here.

John and Susan, Bettendorf, Ia.

Guest: John (Bettendorf, Ia.)
Date of Stay: 01/15/11 Review Submitted: 02/14/11

Our stay 2 week stay, from Jan.15-29, was GREAT!! The quality and comfort of the condo were under advertised. We made several sightseeing trips of the area and in returning to the condo it was stepping in our own home, only the weather was much warmer. Teresa who is the manager was so helpful in showing the condo and grounds plus told us of places to see in the area and places good to eat. The condo and grounds were well maintained and clean. The only problem we had was that we couldn't stay longer and we hope we can return again.

Owner response:Dear John and Susan, We are truly happy to hear that you had a wonderful time in Las Cruces and that staying in Carmen's Suite contributed to your happiness! See you again next time...

A Real Gem

Guest: ThunderB (Santa Barbara, Ca)
Date of Stay: 12/20/10 Review Submitted: 01/13/11

This condo is a delight to stay in. It is decorated so beautifully that I immediately fell in love with it! It was quiet and very comfortable. The building itself is well constructed and contains high quality materials. The owner thought of everything to make our stay feel very special--which it was. I felt so lucky to have chosen this condo for our vacation in Las Cruces. It was so nice to return home to this adobe after a day of exploring. It is obvious that the owner wants to make her patrons happy. My husband and I will definitely chose this condo for future visits.

Owner response:Thank you for your kind words and observations. It is always a joy to hear that others are enjoying themselves in this beautiful place as much as I do! We look forward to welcoming you back again next time you are in Las Cruces.

The Right Choice

Guest: Tony (Silver City, NM)
Date of Stay: 10/29/10 Review Submitted: 11/01/10

The quality, comfort, and all the features were as advertised. This is an excellent place to stay. The owner is pleasant and professional. We enjoyed our first stay here and we are returning in few weeks. The property is clean and well maintained with a sense of 'owner's pride' in their units. We rarely see and experience places like this, where the reality is how the advertisement describes. I could recommend these units to anyone who are looking for these kinds of short-term units. Plus the gated community is another added bonus and security.

Charming Las Cruces condo near Mesilla

Guest: Paxtibi (Sanford, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/02/10 Review Submitted: 04/18/10

This owner's "Carmen Suite" is one of the most attractive and comfortable accommodations I've had on my seven month trip around the US. Everything is immaculate; the provisioning is complete (can't think of anything I needed that wasn't already made available); the decorating was exceptionally tasteful, artistic and interesting ... it takes a while to appreciate all the little individual touches that, in aggregate, join in providing such an enjoyable environment; the bed is comfortable and the location is very quiet so getting good rest is definitely no problem. The provided detailed written instructions for use of the TV/Satellite/Sound system was much appreciated since these installations vary so much in operation from place to place. Everything met or exceeded what was described in the listing. The lodging is conveniently near the I-10 Exit 140 in an attractively landscaped and gated residential complex with on-site parking. Restaurants, gas stations, mall, general shopping are accessible within very short drives. Practically next door is the interesting "Old Mesilla Village" with its central plaza and surrounding boutique shops, art galleries and eating places. Just another fifteen minutes west of that brings you into peaceful rural landscapes, vast pecan orchards, pastures and the Rio Grande. The site makes an excellent base for exploring Las Cruces as well as a host of interesting destinations within a comfortable day's round trip, e.g.: Deming NM (visit the Rock Hound State Park and Spring Canyon in the Florida Mountains; "Lucy's Pasture" donkey sanctuary; and, in Deming itself, the Luna Mimbres Museum with its extraordinary collection of ancient Mimbres pottery); Silver City (once an Apache camp, then a booming mine town, now a tourist destination and gateway to the Gilka Mountains, Cliff Dwellings, Catwalk); Hatch (for an authentic Mexican chili lunch); Truth or Consequences, Elephant Butte Lake and much more. One could easily spend a month here and not exhaust the sites of interest, and, after a day of touring return to your comfortable "home away from home" for rest and relaxation.
