Why the Owner Chose Mount Hood
Due to the proximity to 3 ski areas AND 3 golfcourses surrounded by nature and less than an hour from the city we found this condo and fell in love with the location. It is close to home and nestled between the wild and scenic Salmon River..the most beautiful on the mountain in our opinion ...and 2 of the 3 nines at The Resort At The Mountain.

My family came to the alpine village of Government Camp in the snow zone in the 1930's due to my grandfather Charlie Hill having asthma and needing to live where the air was pristine. He built a restaurant in Govt. Camp called Hills Place where they were famous for the Jucy Jumbo burger. As a tourist attraction, they had a bear where the tourists could purchase a soda and the bear would drink it...thus offering photo opportunities. My Mother, Maryanne grew up to become an champion skiier living here. She competed in the Olympic trials in the 1940's and finished the race on a broken leg. Her closest competitor from Seattle, Gretchen Fraiser, took the gold that year for Alpine Skiing in that Olympics. Both my Mother and I attended grade school here in Welches. My Mother at 88 still lives up in the snow zone village of Govt. Camp a few miles up the mountain and runs her business the Govt. Camp Water Co. which serves the growing community of Govt. Camp wonderfully clean cold water from the spring fed source up on the mountain. We have other rentals in Govt. Camp but with friends and connections to Welches, we decided to add this as a new vacation rental in 2008.

The condo had a fantastic fireplace, washer, dryer, covered parking and was in a great area. Lots of restaurants in the area and extremely close to a grocery store (we ate dinner in each night). Just a short drive to Mt. Hood area hikes & Timberline Lodge. Also, Leslie answered any questions you might have and had lots of great area information available.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, age 55+.
