Location: Other Mesa Properties, Mesa, Greater Phoenix Area, Arizona, USA (Less Than Half Hour from Airport, Scottsdale, Tempe.)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 4 Baths (Sleeps 8-12)
Keywords: House,luxury,views,desert,mountains,pool,hot tub
Nestled in the foothills surrounding Phoenix, your vacation home offers the true desert experience while still close to city conveniences . Situated on over 1 acre of highly desirable desert uplands, the Santa Fe style home is over 3400 sq ft with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths.
The Master Suite has a king bed, two person Jacuzzi tub, and walk-in stone shower. Double doors open to the pool area. The second bedroom has a king bed with pool views and is next to a huge bathroom with separate tub and walk-in stone shower. The third bedroom is set up as a bedroom/home theater combo. It is a large room with two double beds and a big screen tv with 5 speaker surround sound system. Children and teenagers absolutely love this room! They have their own private theater complete with toys and games. We do not provide any video gaming systems but you are welcome to bring your own and hook it up to the big screen in this room. The fourth bedroom has a Queen bed. The upstairs loft is equipped with 2 very comfortable queen futons with upgraded innerspring mattress and its own private bathroom. We also have two additional futons which can be set up in the huge master bedroom or loft to increase sleeping arrangements up to 12. We can even bring in additional futons at a nominal cost and have had as many as 16 guests sleep comfortably in the home. With 3400 square feet there is plenty of room to spread around. Some adventurous guests have even set the futons outside on the large covered patio upstairs for a night of twinkling stars and city light views.
The gourmet kitchen features granite countertops with huge island, Knotty alder cabinets and chefs cookware and appliances. The chef in the family will still be part of the action as the kitchen overlooks the huge greatroom with log ceiling, stone fireplace, 60 inch HDTV and a southwest feel. Out the greatroom door is the private backyard oasis with a huge heated pool featuring a waterfall, 8 person hot tub and swim up bar with in-pool seating for 4 all surrounded by palm trees, tropical plants and beautiful desert and mountain views. We back up to a desert preserve so there are no homes directly behind the backyard. Connected to the swim up bar is a covered sunken gazebo with pool side seating, bbq, sink, fridge and satellite tv.
Back in the house, the second floor is a large loft with pool table, games, satellite TVs and lots of windows to enjoy the views. The second floor also features over 1500 sq ft of covered and uncovered decks with 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, beautiful sunsets and the most amazing city light views at night.
With all of the privacy and beautiful desert living we are still less than 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe (an eclectic college town with lots of shops and restaurants), 2 hours from Sedona, Prescott, or Jerome (a cool and funky artist community built on the side of a mountain outside of Sedona that is well worth a visit), 15 minutes to cubs spring training, 30 minutes to most other spring training facilities and 4 1/2 hours to the Grand Canyon. We have numerous hiking and biking trails nearby, and of course we are surrounded by some of the worlds best golf courses. There is a lake 20 minutes away offering boat rentals, fishing and breathtaking desert mountain scenery. The beautiful White Mountains and Mogollon Rim are a 2 hour drive with more lakes, creeks, and Indian ruins.
The Neighborhood: Mesa is a suburb of Phoenix. Our home is in a very safe area of town. It is a community of modest to luxury custom homes on 1 or more acres that almost has a rural feel to it even though we are close to the city conveniences. The freeway is about 5 minutes away to quickly get you anywhere you want to go. There are great restaurants and bars within 5 minutes of the house. The desert is all around you and it is not unusual to see wildlife such as rabbits, quail, hawks, falcons, great horned owls, and at night you may hear the lonely sounds of the coyotes howling to one another as you sit on the deck admiring the star filled sky.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
We are a couple in our 40's. Ron is a general contractor and Linda is a Realtor. We have a son in Arizona and a daughter living in Colorado with her husband and our two grandchildren. We have been in Arizona for 20 years.
Why the Owner Chose Other Mesa Properties
We built this home for ourselves in 2005. In 2008 we were looking to sell this house and relocate to Tempe Arizona. With the downturn of home values, we decided this was not a good option. We have used VRBO for our own vacations for many years and thought that this home would be a great vacation rental. It has worked out very well as we have been able to move to Tempe and still keep our beautiful desert house in Mesa. We live in the heart of the city in Tempe so we still enjoy a quiet weekend at our Mesa home when it is not rented. We have met many kind and interesting guests from the U.S and many countries throughout the world and are very happy with the decision we made to own a vacation rental.

The owners were great to deal with before we arrived. The house is a nice property and has a lot of potential, however we were all disappointed with the cleanliness. We were travelling with 3 toddlers/ babies and we were not comfortable putting them on the floor to play. We went to vacuum when we first arrived and had to call Ron because the vacuum had no belt. So who know how long it had been since someone vacuumed. Ron did go get us a vacuum from another one of his rental properties, but really?? We were expected to come into a clean home and not have to clean upon our arrival. We were told the cleaners were there right before we arrived and we were paying for the place to be cleaned when we left. The remote controls were black with dirt and filth on them. The kitchen was well stocked but a lot of the dishes in the cupboards were dirty. We found we had to run a load of dishes twice in the dishwasher and the kitchen didn't get hot water and made it hard to clean the dishes . We found pieces of a broken wine glass on the upstairs terrace. Another little thing was there were easily a dozen burnt out light bulbs. A pack rat had gotten into the garage and made a mess of all the garbage and that made us avoid the garage. We did nicely inform Ron of everything and I hope he was able to fix everything. Like I mentioned the house is a nice property it just needed some general maintenance and a GOOD cleaning. The pool area is very nice. The owners accommodated us by allowing us to stay late on our last day so the babies could nap because we had a late flight. They also brought a second playpen to the house for the babies to sleep in. So that was appreciated. It took longer than we expected to get our damage deposit back. We e-mailed the owners a month after being home and got it a few weeks after that. It was hard because we didn't want to complain too much a jeopardise our damage deposit but we also felt like we had no options unless we wanted to loose our money and go pay to stay in a hotel. Overall we had a nice trip to Mesa but would not rent this property again or another home from someone we don't know to avoid this situation in the future.
Owner response:We were very surprised to read this review. When it arrived, we were expecting a positive review based on the interaction we had with the guests during their stay. We had accommodated several extra requests from them and they seemed to be having a wonderful time. I was called about the vacuum and had it repaired and replaced quickly, and left the vacuum from our home as a replacement. The cleaning crew brings their own vacuums so that would have no bearing on the carpets not being clean enough, the house vacuum is just there for the guests use and we did not realize the belt had broken. I don't know what the issue was with the floors, but this is the first I have heard of the problem. Our housekeepers do an excellent job of preparing the house for our guests. We would have happily had them stop back over and address any concerns made by the guest if they had let us know when they arrived. We did find that the dishwasher impeller was not working 100% and had it replaced, we appreciate the heads up on that. There is, of course, hot water to the kitchen, but it takes a minute to get there due to the size of the house. I did replace the light bulbs that were bad (there were 5), this is a very large house and there are over 100 light bulbs so they do go out from time to time, we do our best to keep on eye out and have them replaced. As for our friendly neighborhood pack rat, the house is surrounded by desert and we do have interactions with the desert creatures. I'm sorry that he made a mess of the garage, but we do ask our guests to keep all trash in the large container that is picked up twice a week to avoid this problem. I feel bad that these guests felt that they could not talk to us about their concerns during their stay out of fear of having the deposit held. We would never withhold a deposit for that reason and in fact, have never had to keep a one for any reason from our guests. I apologize for the delay returning the deposit, that was a bookkeeping error on my part. As you can see from our other reviews, we take great care in making sure our guests stay is an enjoyable one and are always accessible if there is a problem or concern. I hope these guests will give not only us, but VRBO another chance. Vacation homes are a great option when traveling. We have been using VRBO for over 5 years and have never had a bad experience as a traveling guest or an owner. Best Regards, Ron and Linda

We came in for a wedding and had 10 adult kids with us. It was the perfect home for our family. We were 20-30 minutes from downtown Mesa, and 5-10 minutes to stores and resturants. The kids loved hanging out by the pool and at night we sat in the hot tub. We all watched a movie on the big screen in the family room and everyone had a place to sit. The kitchen was great and well stocked with dishes for a large crowd. We hung out there in the morning. The view from the deck to watch the sunset was spectacular. Ron you were wonderful to work with. P.S. Thanks for the recomendation of Red White and Brew restaurant, it was fantastic.
Owner response:So happy you and the kids enjoyed the house. The sunset deck is my favorite part of the house as well. We'll tip a glass for you next time we are at "Red White and Brew" lol. Take care, Ron and Linda.

Linda and Ron had a wonderful home for us in Mesa. Their home was large enough for all 9 of us. The pictures did the home justice and then some. The pool needed a little cleaning but it was not a huge deal for us. Linda and Ron were excellent to deal with and we will definately rent thier home again.
Owner response:Glad you had fun, hope you can come down for a longer visit next time. Take care, Ron and Linda

This property is everything you see, plus more. Excellent, excellent, excellent is all we can say. You forgot to pack it, it is there. The resort like pool and water fall was our favourite. The house is very clean, large and has everything you need and more. We can't say enough about this property and the owners were always just a phone call away. Best accomodations we have stayed at. We would not hesitate to recommend this property. The sunrises and sets are breath taking. Like we said everyhing you see and more and would go again in a heart beat. Very pleased from Canada.
Owner response:It's nice to hear that the hard work we put into keeping our vacation home beautiful is appreciated, please come see us again sometime. Regards, Ron and Linda
