I haven't had a vacation in 5 years. I own a small communications company and it demands most of my time. This past year it took up so much of my time I had a stroke. Needless to say, I desperately needed a vacation. I invited my family and my office manager and her family. It was a two day trip down and we were all very excited. I'm not allowed to say how much I paid for this rental, I don't know why, the rates are listed on this site. Anyway, lets just say I could have had my entire party stay at a luxury hotel for the week based on what I paid. Problems: 1. WiFi was not operating. 2. Phones did not work. 3. Downstairs television did not work. 4. Grill was out of propane not to mention filthy. 5. Fixtures in Master Bath were loose. 6. Another bathroom had a shower that did not work. 7. Hot Tub didn't work. 8. Pool heater didn't work. We needed this option based on the fact that we rented the unit during the week of Christmas and New Years. Water temp was around 56 degrees. 9. Many other minor problems, had to buy new batteries for all the remotes, washing machine was filthy inside, downstairs game room had terrible damp smell, etc. I reported the problems to Atwood Vacations (The leasing agent) They got in touch with the owner. Did the owner apologize for the problems? Did the owner try to rectify the problems? Did the owner offer a refund of any kind? NO. Atwood was very nice and tried to do what they could. I was offered a small refund from them. When I stopped in to pick up the refund, John (The owner) asked me if he could speak to me for a few minutes. I think we talked for close to two hours. He was very concerned and sincere and I really enjoyed our chat. I realize that their hands were tied. Everyone in their office apologized to me and I could see that they were almost as upset as I was. So to the owner of this property I say, "Thanks for not living up to your end of the deal, thanks for depriving four children and eight adults the use of the pool and the hot tub (By the way, that was the main reason I rented this property), thanks for adding stress to my condition and most of all, thanks for making our Christmas holiday a miserable, forgetful occasion." Merry Christmas
Owner response:Thank you for your review. It saddens me to know that you experienced less than a wonderful vacation . The weather during your stay was mostly sunny 60-70 degrees. With the beach only steps away from the home, it is unimaginable that anyone could have a less than wonderful experience. The home was managed by a management company, which has the responsible for tending to your needs during that stay. Sometimes things break in a home, every effort is made to repair them as quickly as possible. It sounds from your review that they met your satisfaction in doing this. The company notified me that the pool heater stopped working and that the repairman was on vacation until after the first of the year. They also mentioned that the front shower was not working. Based on this information, I instructed them to refund the money for the pool heat, and to have the shower repaired. This is the first of my knowledge of anything else expressed in your email as none of this was conveyed to me. I recently read a devotional that spoke of an instance where a man and his wife were having dinner. They were in a nice restaurant decorated for Christmas. During their conversation, he continued to look over his wife's shoulder as she talked not paying her any attention. He was obsessed with the fact that there was a bulb out on the Christmas tree. Exasperated that he was not listening she asked him what was so important that he could not be present with her. His reply was "there is a bulb out on the tree." His wife's reply was, "it is amazing that all this beauty and wonderful experience is around us and instead of seeing the thousands of lights that illuminate the tree so perfectly, you see the one that is burnt out.’ Are we so focused on what is wrong with something, we forget to see what is right? The moments to cherish in life can be gone before you know it. During your stay, my aunt was dying from a massive stroke that she suffered just before Christmas, ironic considering your recent stroke. I tell you this to share with you how precious each moment in life is. Her family never got the opportunity to tell her how much they loved her before she died. What they wouldn't give to have another moment sitting on the beach with her, one more time to tell her they love her. Our thoughts create our experience, so what we are spending our time thinking about? Are we looking at the one burnt out bulb, or are we looking at the beautifully illuminated tree?
