In 1548, Jacques des Ligneris, President of the Parliament of Paris, ordered the construction of the mansion that came to be known as the Htel Carnavalet; construction was completed about 1560. In 1578, the widow of Francois de Kernevenoy, later known as Carnavalet, purchased the building. In 1654, the mansion was bought by Claude Boislve, who commissioned the well-known architect, Franois Mansart, to make extensive renovations. Madame de Svign, famous for her letter-writing, lived in the Htel Carnavalet from 1677 until her death in 1696. The museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm. It is closed on Mondays and holidays.
The Bastille Day Military Parade is the French military parade that has been held on the morning of 14 July each year in Paris since 1880. Bastille prison stood until the 'Storming of the Bastille' and its subsequent physical destruction between 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 during the French Revolution; The square is often home to concerts and similar events. The city’s most famous Jewish neighborhood in the Marais and is known as the Pletzl – Yiddish for little Place. This 4th arrondissment district (Metro: St. Paul) has been home to Jews on and off since the thirteenth century. Today, though gentrification has made this one of the city’s most fashionable quarters, it is still heavily Jewish and has been for nearly one hundred years. Up and down rue des Rosiers between rue Malher and rue des Hospitalires-St.-Gervais, as well as on the streets off rue des Rosiers, you will find Jewish restaurants, bookshops, boulangeries and charcuteries along with synagogues and shtiebels (small prayer rooms – Oratoire in French).
is one of the most famous sights in all Paris and certainly one of the most spectacular. Its imposing stone faade, towers, and flying buttresses have been painted and photographed from every conceivable angle. It may surprise you that this standard bearer of the Roman Catholic Church in France also holds some interest for Jews. In front of the cathedral you can easily see two female figures on either side of the central portal: They are known as Ecclesia (on the left) and Synagoga (on the right). Ecclesia, a beautiful woman wearing a crown, represents the Roman Catholic Church; Synagoga, a woman with a bowed head, shattered staff, the broken tablets of the Ten Commandments at her feet, and a serpent aro

The island's main street, rue de Saint Louis en Ile, features wonderful specialty boutiques and shops. The Rue Vieille du Temple is the main artery of Marais nightlife. Its many bars, cafs, and restaurants, many of them catering to gay or mixed clientele, are always packed, especially on the weekends.
Chef Pierre Lecoutre doesn't let the stunning setting steal the show. Businessman Ernest Cognacq and his wife Marie-Louise Jay gathered this museum’s collection between 1900 and 1925. The couple that had founded the Samaritaine department store spent part of the fortune they had amassed on works of art – and had a penchant for 18th-century French artists. Ernest donated this collection to the City of Paris when he died in 1928. This museum’s collections include paintings and sculptures by leading lights (Lemoyne, Chardin and Fragonard) side by side with those of lesser-known masters (Lavreince and Saly). The woodwork, furniture and decorative art encapsulate something about elegant society’s lifestyle in that day.

Your apartment is truly the best gem of Paris. We loved the neighborhood and everything about it. It was perfect! We had a wonderful time touring Paris, shopping, drinking, eating…so much fun! Went to an English mass on Christmas Eve and prepared a gourmet Christmas feast in your incredible kitchen. Thank you so much for the beautiful fans that you left under the tree, which was so beautifully decorated just for us! It is now New Year’s Eve and we are getting ready to spend the evening wandering about Paris. We are sure that we will have a great time tonight, but must leave for the airport at 5am, so we thought we should write in the book now! Thank you again so VERY MUCH for everything. We hope that someday our paths will cross again! Merci Beaucoup!

Thank you so much for the wonderful nest in the center of everything. We had a fantastic week. It couldn’t have been better. We appreciated the fruit, flowers and bubbles and of course the daily cleaning (it made everything so easy!). Our parents really enjoyed being back in Paris and staying here played a big part of making it possible – a very special time for them. Beautiful city, great accommodations, comfortable and a great aura – it was a great time for all the family.

We can only reiterate all the glowing praise stuffed page upon page in the guest book. The accommodations were exceptional. Truly, were it not for Paris outside the courtyard door, we would have sat around the salon, slept late in our beds and drank coffee in the garden without ceasing. Indeed, this home would be better placed on the barren planes of Oklahoma where its glories would not have to compete with the Louvre, Muse D'Orsay or Notre Dame. We will happy book the first week should you relocate. Thank you so much for the flowers- which were lovely- the fruit- which we devoured- the Nespressor coffee- which we over-indulged- and for Ciela's welcome-which made her feel like a Parisienne Princes.

This is an absolutely beautiful apartment, located at the heart of many of the main tourist attractions of Paris. It's an easy 10-15 minute walk to the Ile de la Cite and Notre Dame, a 15 minute walk to the Pompidou, and a short (no transfer) Metro ride to the major museums (Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, etc.) The apartment is extremely comfortable, with 3 bedrooms each with its own attached bathroom, and another smaller bedroom with a separate toilet. It accommodates 7 *very* comfortably. One note is that the apartment has a staircase that for a small portion of its lower end has no banister, which might pose a problem for people who have difficulty with stairs. (Although there is also one bedroom on the ground floor, which could allow those people to avoid the stairs if they sleep there.) There is also a large, beautiful common space for eating, talking, or watching TV, and a lovely private garden for the sole use of the apartment (a real rarity in downtown Paris). It's also more-than-fully equipped, with such extras as a cappuccino machine, a flat-screen TV and DVD player, and more. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. The hosts were very nice and helpful, and any questions we had were answered immediately. They also provide excellent service that includes airport transfers, daily maid service. We found this *much* nicer than staying at a hotel, and for a larger party, quite cost-effective. We would highly recommend this apartment to any larger group that wants to spend a few days in Paris.

The location is wonderful to get lost in! We could have spent another week here just investigating this neighborhood. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the apartment is so spacious. Plenty of bathrooms! 5 WCs! Interior decor is lovely and furniture comfortable also. Great selection of movies. Vanessa was very nice and took good care of us during our stay. Thank you for a fantastic family vacation! The open "open bus" is a great way to tour Paris. You can get off wherever you wand stay as long as you desire. The subway is a reasonable way to travel and it's fast.
