Hale Luana is a private, family-owned beach house fronting a white sand beach ("Baby Beach") on the southern shore of Kauai. This tropically landscaped vacation home includes a three-bedroom main house, a one-bedroom guest house and a fresh water swimming pool. The two-story main house has three bedrooms and two and a half baths. The main house has a king-bed in the master bedroom, a queen-bed in one upstairs guest room and twin-beds in the second upstairs guest room. The twins can be made into one bed. The guest house has a queen-bed, a living area and its own bathroom.
About 100 yards in width, Baby Beach is situated in a picturesque crescent cove (please see photos). The beach is safe and ideal for children. A surrounding reef precludes adult swimming out more than a short distance.
Hale Luana is a short walk from the Kukuilua convenience store and the new upscale Kukuiula Village. The Village features Merriman's Restaurant (upstairs) and Cafe (Downstairs), Lappert's Coffee and Ice Cream, Living Foods Market & Cafe,and a number of high quality shops. Other nearby restuarants include The Beach House (walking distance), Roy's, Keoki's Paradise, the Plantation Gardens and Brennecke's Bar & Grill.
Guests have the choice of several highly rated golf courses including the Poipu Bay Club (Hyatt Regency) and the Kiahuna Golf Club. Tennis is available at The Kiahuna Tennis Club.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
The owners have been involved in the Poipu Beach area for more than 35 years. We know the Poipu Beach area quite well. Hale Luana became available in 2000 upon the death of the prior owner. We were able to act promptly to purchase the property.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Hale Luana is located in a quiet neighborhood, away from the public park (boom boxes and beach parties) and away from the hotels and condominium resorts. The street has relatively little traffic. All beaches in Kauai are public. However, Baby Beach is not used by surfers and the general public because it is enclosed by a reef. If relative privacy and safety is one of your priorities, Hale Luana is the ideal choice.

Barbro & Frank Greene - Belvedere, CA
Barbro & Frank honeymooned on Kauai in 1966. They returned annually to the original Waiohai Hotel. In 1973 they purchased seven of the original Kiahuna Plantation condominiums via a limited partnership, Kiahuna Beachside. In 2000 the Hale Luana property became available for purchase. The Greene's contacted close friends, Hugh & Teresa Reilly, Seattle, WA. The Reilly's joined in as partners and the two families set about a major remodel which included furnishigs, new roofs, all new appliances, sliding glass doors, complete new bathrooms, etc. Hale Luana has become one of the premiere properties on the island of Kauai.

We had a wonderful family reunion and major birthday celebration during a February that featured beautiful weather, as expected, at a super facility for our group. With a family spanning the ages of 3 to 73, all were very happy with our facilities from Baby Beach to nearby "Big People" beach. Because our group numbered 13 we also rented the adjoining property which is also nice but not in the league with Hale Luana which would have the maximum 3 stars if it were in the Michelin Guide.
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

We can't say enough about the beauty that is Hale Luana. The location could not be more breath-taking and inspiring: this home is right on the beach! The garden, which surrounds the entire property, not affords total privacy; it is colorful, aesthetically pleasing, and most relaxing. The interior of Hale Luana is furnished tastefully and lovingly and thoughtfully. Throughout our stay we felt cared for, because the owners have carefully chosen just the right appliances, as well as very comfortable and inviting and beautiful furnishings. The pool is difficult to remove oneself from, for it is the perfect size and perfect temperature in one of the most stunning settings in the world. We left the property very rarely during our stay on Kauai, because we experienced that Hale Luana is a very healing place to be. In a word, this is a very sacred place. We wept as we left. Our experience of this most special place will forever nurture our souls.
