This quiet 200 sq' studio apartment in the 12th arrondissement is a fifth floor walk-up (88 steps, no elevator) at the corner of rue d’Aligre and rue de Charenton. There's the wonderful outdoor Place d'Aligre Market for fruit+veg+flowers, a flea market, and an indoor market where you can get cheese+meat+fish. The Promenade Plantee (like NYC's Highline) is just around the corner above the Viaduc des Arts. It's a five minute walk to the Bastille and the new Opera House. The Marais is just the other side of the Bastille. A minute’s walk to Gare de Lyon where Metro Line 1 goes directly to the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysees, the Grand Palais. But it's Paris, why not walk? It's a truly great location.

We stayed in this apartment for one week and absolutely loved it. It was exactly what was needed for our time in Paris. The location was great, minutes from the metro and surrounded by shops, cafes and a really great market and grocery store. The street was quiet, especially at night when we would return from a full day of sight-seeing. Yes, there are 88 steps to the apartment, but it honestly wasn't any trouble. You almost didn't feel guilty for eating all those chocolate croissants and crepes when you had to walk up and down the stairs each day. The apartment was very clean and the pictures give an accurate description of the apartments appearance and amenities. There are great large windows that can be opened to let in air and there was no problem with the apartment not having a/c because of the windows. We were not there in the day, and at night we would open them for a breeze. The fact that you are able to get long distance calling, wifi and cable was great too. We could keep in touch with family, and had excellent internet the entire stay. We were also given a small guide when we decided to rent the apartment and it listed everything we needed to know from how to get to the apartment from the airport, to how to work the television - very handy and appreciated! The apartment had books and maps about Paris, which we found very handy and would read about things to do or suggestions from other guests of the apartment. A great place to stay while you are in Paris - would highly recommend and would stay there again!

We stayed here during the first week of August. The apartment was very cozy, and perfect for two. Comfortable bed and a well equipped kitchen made cooking easy, and is a good alternative to eating out every night. Also, the Place D'Aligre market is amazing, and an ideal place to shop for food. It is only a few steps from the front door, and is a fun experience even if you just want to wander through. They even have a small flea market that provided some interesting finds. We loved the neighbourhood, as it didn't feel too touristy, but was very close to everything. It is also very close to the the metro and batobus transportation links, although we were mostly walking. Very comfortable, romantic, and authentically Parisienne, we will definitely be back!

We stayed for 10 magical days in this wonderful apartment. It was amazing how easy we adapted to comfortable, well equiped, albeit small spaces. The neighbourhood is amazing, with the best market and best food prices just outside the door. And great restaurants within walking distance. The center of Paris easy to walk to, and the new cultural district to the east provided a great contrast to places to explore. Within walking to the trains, metro, and buses. This is a great neigbourhood, what a treat to experience the real Paris!

A NEW PARIS – FOR ME ANYWAY

I usually stay on the left bank. Until I'd been to this place and found out where the real Paris was. Within walking distance – and a lovely walk it is too – of the top tourist attractions, it is full of locals and great markets, stores, restaurants and cafes. The local restaurants probably aren't in the mass market guide books (though many are in Paris only in-the-know guides) but they are good and amazing value compared to the tourist area places. We ended up one night at a little corner cafe where the after dinner drinks were less than half what you'd pay in St. Germain. So, of course, we drank twice as much. Great find and we were only two blocks from home. It's a short walk from the Gare de Lyons where we dropped our rental car. The market, one of the last street markets left in Paris, is a great place and even better when you have your own kitchen. I've been to Paris quite a few times and love the city but this was like finding a new and in many ways better Paris. I will return.
