  House needs some maintenance. Doors that don't open easily because they are dragging on uneven floors. Screen door fell off on one sliding door as soon as touched. Problems with shade on same door. Main bedroom upstairs has a Jacuzzi tub but no shower. We had to travel down stairs for each shower. Biggest problem is drive-way. Out of self defense we learned we had to pull over and wait for traffic to pass then hurry up and back in. Even doing this, still hard to get out because of plantings in front yard almost totally blocking view and location on corner where cars were excellerating out of a turn. The last item is the only one that would prevent us from recommending this property.

  Owner response: Our sincere apologies that the Hale Kepuhi was anything less than superb & perfect. We appreciate input on maintenance issues & our temperamental sliders/screens have been addressed. Surprising that traffic was an issue, we've not found that to be a nuisance to guests. Mahalo

• Heaven on Earth

  This was the PERFECT place for us! We fell in love with Hale Kepuhi and didn't want to leave. From the spectacular sunrise each morning to the lovely evenings we spent on the lana'i with our BBQ dinners, we enjoyed just being there. Next time we stay at Hale Kepuhi, we are going to do just that--stay there rather than sightsee. The directions were accurate and we got there without incident even though due to a 5 hour delay we got there late at night. The home was immaculate, just like the pictures, and it was so comfortable and spacious. The three bedrooms are separated enough that each of us had plenty of privacy and could leave early in the morning or return late without disturbing the others. The kitchen was well-equipped. We enjoyed dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant about a half mile up the road, the food and the selections were very good. There is lots to do--visit the Hawaiian Gardens nearby, hike the trail at the end of the road, snorkel, swim, etc. I also got a great massage at the spa at the Hanalei Colony Resort Hotel just up the road. I would highly recommend this if you want to get away from it all. I can not wait until my next visit to Hale Kepuhi.

• Fabulous getaway

  The smells, the sounds, the amazing views. . . .this house offers both open and cozy spaces designed to reflect the peace and calm and romance that is Kauai. I've stayed here twice, once with a friend in Spring of 2008 and once with another couple in July 2009 and I'm preparing for my next visit. The location is perfect with easy access to everything and the beach, just steps away, is private and tranquil. There is not one thing I would add or change. Cant wait to get back!
