We had such a great stay, superstorm sandy included. The trip was saved by R's kindness as we were unable to get out of the city for an additional 3 days. Her kindness and understanding were very appreciated. R is such a great host and so very helpful! There were no surprises and she provided many helpful recommendations. The location of the apartment was absolutely perfect for our needs, steps away from central park and the 72nd subway station. There are many great restaurants and shops within walking distance. We always felt more than safe and comfortable! We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We were in town to see our new grandchild, on W 74th, so the choice initially was made because of the location. We plan to return, however, because of the wonderful size of the apartment, the great view, the excellent location, and the personable and responsive owner. The bedroom is much larger than it appears in photos, and the king-size bed was extremely comfortable. The proximity to the parks, subway, stores, etc. was a bonus for us. The photos and listing description are accurate; the apartment is clean and quiet. We have already recommended to friends and family. We had brunch outdoors at le Pain Quotidien near the Sheep Meadow in Central Park and it was wonderful. Lenny's at 74th & Columbus, a five minute walk, for bagels and sandwiches, and Trader Joe's just around the corner met our needs.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

For your money, I can't imagine a better value in NYC. I gave this rental a 5 star rating for two reasons. One is that it is exactly as advertised. The other is because of the value. Value in New York is hard to come by but I found it with this apartment. If you are looking for a "5 Star" accommodation in the traditional sense, then you need to go to the Waldorf and spend $1800 per night for something this size. If you want comfort, convenience, value, character, and the opportunity to live like a local, go with this deal. The first four nights of our recent visit were spent in the Hilton in Times Square. Like Vegas, more than two nights in Times Square is too much. I wish we had stayed in this apartment for the entire visit to this magnificent city. The neighborhood is great with lots of food, coffee, etc. Extremely close to the 1 train. Close to Central Park. 2 blocks from The Dakota, where John Lennon was shot. My family had a wonderful NYC vacation and staying in this rental contributed greatly to our joy. If clean and comfortable, yet simple and inexpensive works for you, you will be happy with this rental.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

I stayed a week in this apartment - a mix of vacation and work - and found it to be exactly as advertised. The apartment was huge by New York standards, the furniture was comfortable, and the building was in a wonderful location - just steps from the 72nd st subway station which allows you to get almost anywhere in the city quite easily. There was also a bus that went down Broadway which was great for short trips or at night to get back from the theater. I recomend getting a Metro card if you are going to be there a week as it makes tansportation painless and inexpensive. I flew in from Newark, took the train from the airport to Penn Staton and the subway to the apartment - convenient, inexpensive transportation compared to other options. I would never have attempted this sort of thing if I hadn't know the apartment was so close to a subway stop with an elevator so I could get my luggage up from the platform easily. The owner had left a big pile of maps, travel guides, and restaurant menus which was quite helpful throughout my trip. She was responsive to questions and very easy to communicate with pror to my visit. The apartment itself was clean, there were sufficient linens, the kitchen was small but had a coffee pot, microwave, refigerator and even a hot plat if needed. As noted in the description - there was no real stove but I didn't miss it at all! My only suggestion is to add a step-stool to the range of stuff in th utility closet for the convenience of shorter guests. the cupboards are quite high and I couldn't reach beyond the first shelf! As for the neighborhood itself - The Trader joes' across Broadway was fun and great for shopping, Fairway was there too, but not as wonderful as the hype about it would indicate - but then I'm from Houston - city that has huge gourmet grocery stores in many locations so perhaps I'm a little spoiled. The local restaurants were good and if you took in the lunch special - they were even reasonably priced. There were lots of little stores around to snoop in and overall it was a wonderful place to spend time. I hope to return to the city later in the summer or early fall and hope this apartment is available then.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It's such a rare pleasure to have so much space and so much light in a NYC sublet. Imagine staying in New York and not minding staying in your room/flat for an evening, morning, even whole day. The kitchen facilities (there's no promise of a kitchen here) are perfectly adequate for a visit that won't involve cooking (do that at home). the location is terrific, more appealing restaurants than we had time for in our two-week stay. the renter was also most helpful throughout, always an email away. the building is a classic. just the elevator woodwork alone and the high ceilings and all the windows make this a gem. can't wait to get back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Description of the property was right on, great location, lots of great restaurants, easy access to groceries. I really liked how quite it was, I slept well at night. Very friendly staff. I would highly recommend this property..... Less expensive then a hotel with the comforts of home. Ruthanne was a great help when I had questions.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This apartment was exactly as advertised - huge pre-war, comfortable, convenient and so quiet for Manhattan. The kitchen had everything we needed. We arrived late at night and were warmly greeted by the doorman Leslie - staff were extremely friendly as were the neighbours. Location is amazing, steps to the subway, easy to hail a cab on Amsterdam or Broadway, a variety of restaurants close by as well as Trader Joe's. The owner is very organized and easy to work with. She gave us lots of information prior to our arrival and communicated during our stay to make sure all was well. We will be back, hopefully soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Outstanding location! Spitting distance to the W. 72nd St. subway station - access via W. 73rd St. @ Amsterdam/Broadway for lines 1, 2, & 3. Then approx 2 blocks to the W. 72nd St. subway station @ Central Pk West for lines A-D. Coffee, food and taverns aplenty all within walking distance. Central Park is….well 2 blocks out. Mike the barkeep at Dublin House on W. 79th St. the real deal; he's a curmudgeon from the old country with the cool brogue - pours well. The plethora of restaurants, bistros, delis and counters are beyond description. We slept through "wanna-be hurricane Irene" as it had little effect on the UWS. If you are expecting luxury, the rooms at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Columbus Circle a few blocks south start @ $1,300 and run up to $4,000 a night, have at it. Due to availability we stayed at the Bella Claire Hotel off Broadway for 2 nights then moved over to this apt. for 8 nights. Great NYC experience! No hassle booking. To whom may inquire, we do not know the owner(s), we are not getting compensated for this review.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I and our then 8 month old daughter stayed in this lovely apartment in mid August 2010 for a 5 night stay. It suited our needs. It was spacious, especially by NYC standards, clean and comfortable with lots of natural light coming in from the large living room windows. The bed in the one bedroom was comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate. The kitchen was also small and definetly not suitable for more than just making a quick cup of coffee or tea. But it was fine for us. I was able to make my daughter's bottles and cereal and keep everything clean and sanitary. With so many great resturants in the vicinity, we knew that we would be eating out or ordering in pretty much all the time so the lack of conventional kitchen facilities was not an issue for us.We loved the location of the apartment. That is perhaps the biggest plus about this apartment. The world of dining and other options for things to do was at our doorstep. Really great neighbourhood. We felt as if we were a part of the local scene and enjoyed our stay very much. We would highly recommend this place for those looking for clean, spacious, apartment in a fantastic location and we will certainly stay here again.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Surprisingly large apt. for NYC. Picture didn't do it justice. Great views of the UWS out of the monster sized windows in the living room. Clean and comfortable. Bathroom right off the bedroom. Everything we needed in the kitchen--coffee maker, etc. Always felt safe walking out of the very clean building and in the neighborhood. Proximity to restaurants, Central Park and the subway/buses couldn't have been more convenient.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed here for a long weekend with my sister and the location couldn't be better. Just blocks from Central Park and steps from restaurants and stores. But, the apt itself is quiet so you can actually get a good night of sleep when you want to get away from all the action. The bed in the bedroom was really comfortable and the sheets were super soft. The property was clean and had plenty of extra towels and sheets. The kitchen is super tiny (as is typical for most NY apts), but adequate to store stuff in the fridge or make a cup of coffee. And, the living room is huge, particularly for NY, with lots of room to spread out. Best of all, the owner sent an extensive list of things to do, places to shop and restaurants to visit and I felt like she was available if anything came up. The only downside is that the bathroom is through the bedroom so if someone is sleeping in the living room, that can be a bit tricky. Other than that, this was a great place to stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a nice apartment in a nearly perfect location in the the upper west side. It is about 2 blocks from Central Park and subway access is literally across the street from the building. Although the owner was very up front about the limitations of the apt, she was not accurate about the conditions. The location is great and perfect for my needs. The biggest problem is the kitchen which is not at all adequate. She told me there was no stove; what she did not tell me was that the appliances are so crowded that they must be moved around - blocking each other - to be used. And some do not work adequately. To use the coffee maker, it must be moved to block the microwave. The toaster oven ihas a broken handle and does not turn off/on correctly. I never expected to have more than breakfast in the apt, but even that was difficult. The minor issue is that the apt is stripped of all except minimum furniture - no decor at all. As I do not spend any time in the apt except to sleep, I accepted the situation, but was not happy. The owner is very nice and friendly, but she has an inflated view of the value of her apt.Owner response: This review is accurate in the characterization of the kitchen and of the decorations. However, her review is not an accurate assessment of my having an "inflated view" (Although I would like to note that I am unaware of a problem with the toaster over - I will have to look at that when I am in NYC next. And secondly I am not sure where the renter put the coffee maker - I have it on the shelf to the side of the microwave so it isn't blocking anything.) The picture on the listing shows a very minimal, small kitchen and indeed this is not a place if you are looking to cook. This exact point is addressed in my listing verbatim so I don't believe to have an "inflated" view nor to have misrepresented the apartment. Indeed, this apartment is not for everyone - especially if you plan to spend a lot of time cooking. Reviewer is also right that there are not a lot of decorations. The pictures I have posted show exactly what the apartment is - and what it is not. I agree with the renter's assessment of the kitchen and the lack of decorations however I will respectfully submit that the opinion that my view is "inflated" is inaccurate. The price of the apartment per night advertised on this listing is reflective of such. Thank you for reading my response and I am happy to answer any questions.

Terrific location on the Upper West Side. Less than a block from 72nd Station on Metro Lines 1, 2 and 3. One train to the Bronxs Zoo, walk to the Natural History Museum and the park. Close to great take out and Fairway market. Not much of a kitchen, but with all the good prepared food around it doesn't matter.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

What a wonderful place. The location is great. It is right by the 72nd Street station. It is roomy. The large windows in the living room provide a great view and lots of light. The bathroom is off the bedroom so if you sleep people in the living room (there is a bed) they will have to go through the bedroom to access the bathroom.Did you find this review helpful? Perfectly located (we were visiting Columbia), clean, quite, spacious (unusual in NYC!) with a great view of the city. The beds (one was an air bed) were very comfortable. The kitchen was tiny but with all the great restaurants within walking distance it was a non-issue. We’ll definitely try to stay here on our next visit to NYC.Did you find this review helpful?
