Location: Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodations: Summer House, 5 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 11-14)
Architect designed, built in 1949. Open and light, sliding glass doors abound, with a classic 50's conversation pit with a fireplace for cozying up in. With it's giant dining table it is perfect for a large family to spread out in, or the couches suit a couple of friends who want peace and quiet and a place to read.
There is a croquet set and lots of games. We have never had a TV there but it has WiFi. There is even a separate writers cabin to work in. It is 9/10ths surrounded by water, Menemsha Pond on one side and Quitsa Pond on the other. Part of the 11 acres of land is a conservation area, and the view is beautiful from anywhere. It has always been occupied by sailors (perfect place to anchor) but is also excellent for jumping into a kayak and exploring the ponds, boats are not provided.
It is perfect for small children, the third generation of our family is now proving that. They can paddle about on the private beach on Menemsha Pond, "Short Beach" where we all learned to swim. Beach passes for the restricted town Ocean beaches are available for purchase with your lease. The Menemsha public beach (and it's great fish markets) are nearby. Chilmark has a wonderful community center summer program that runs every weekday morning for children up to 12, where your kids can meet others in the neighborhood.
This is not a fancy house, built very simply, the furniture is worn, though some of it is classic, such as Eames. It is for comfort and serenety, not for a magazine cover. It has a very warm feel we hope you love as we do.
We do not rent for under 1 week. We give discounts for long rentals.
