This property is located in a rural setting surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, waterfalls, and beautiful tropical gardens. Cuesta de Piedra is a quiet pueblo where our electric bill is delivered on horseback and milk trucks pick up 10 gallon milk tanks left next to the local farmer's gates. International bird watching tours set up on the road to view the many birds found on and around our property. One of our recent guests spotted 87 species of birds just on our property (see complete list below). We are within easy walking distance of the hydro-electric dam and the drive to La Amistad and Volcan Baru National Parks is less than an hour.
Our guest suite is private, secure, and well appointed. Enter on the second level into a large living/dining/kitchen area. This level features a full self-catering kitchen, a full bath room, dining for four with a day bed that converts to a king or two twin beds.
The private balcony looks out onto a river valley headed by Volcan Baru, a beautiful 11,000+ foot tall volcano and the highest point in Panama. There is a custom built spiral stair that takes you down to a bedroom with queen bed, full bath room, and a private deck. There is a gated entry and covered parking for one vehicle.

Birdwatcher's Paradise in Luxury Apt. in Western Panama
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Volcan
We purchased in this location because of it's proximity to outdoor activities here in Cuesta de Piedra as well as the nearby rainforests and beaches. It's a temperate climate that is warm during the day and cool enough to need a light blanket for sleeping at night.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
We are fortunate to have mostly cows for neighbors and incredible bird watching every day. Our Panamanian neighbors are friendly and this area is clean and well maintained.
Cerro Punta is a 45 minute drive and offers rainforest birdwatching tours, horseback riding, Finca Dracula (exotic orchids, over 9000 varieties) and hiking.
Playa la Barqueta is about an hour away. You can boogie board, surt, beachcomb, or just relax. There are several restaurants offering fresh fish caught daily and shaded cabanas perfect for lounging.
Owner's Map of Volcan
We moved to this area in 2006 from the mountains of Western Colorado and now share it with our two dogs and two cats, as well as a myriad of resident birds. We spend time gardening, socializing with other gringos in the area, hiking, biking and beach combing and boogie boarding at nearby Playa la Barqueta (and, of course, feeding the birds).

My husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have discovered this gem of a place on VRBO. We spent 4 nights here in January 2012. The apartment is self contained in a separate wing of Lynn and Jerry's beautiful rural home. It is modern, clean, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The view from the top balcony to Volcan Baru is stunning and the smell of flowers perfumes the air. Both Lynn and Jerry were very helpful suggesting scenic drives, hikes, grocery stores and restaurants. Lynn gave me a detailed tour of the grounds (I, too, love to garden) and Jerry set out bananas in the evenings to encourage the birds to come close. We found the property very well situated for day trips. We especially enjoyed hiking at La Amistad International Park and exploring the farming areas around Cerro Punta. Volcan, a ten minute drive away, is the main centre in the area for basic shopping and both David and Boquete are less than an hour away. This was our first trip to Panama and we would definitely return to spend more time in this area. We did not try the convertible bed, but I am sure that it would be comfortable. Four people could be accomodated here easily. The roads are usually well paved and we had no trouble getting to La Amistad to hike. We did find that our compact rental car could not handle the road to the trailhead for Sendero Los Quetzales.

I actually have to say I don't think the pictures do justice to this vacation rental. The home and grounds far exceeded my expectations. Spacious, clean, quiet. And the grounds are meticulously and lovingly landscaped. The location is ideal for any wanting to explore what Western Panama has to offer, central to all of the beautiful variety...beaches, cloud forests, hiking, water sports, etc. I have to admit that I am somewhat nervous about having the owners on site when renting, just because you tend to feel you can't totally relax, or you never know what their 'vibe' will be. Lynn and Jerry are the perfect balance of casual invisible/willing concierge, we LOVED them! Do not hesitate to rent this home, you will not be disappointed! (Oh, and the birdwatching onsite is unparallelled!)

Best Area to Stay - Great Place

The photos, though beautiful, can't really capture how great this rental is for visitors. I will eventually move to this area and for three weeks this luxurious suite was my home. Every detail was designed both for comfort and to enjoy being close to the incredible natural beauty of the area. It actually is the extension of a lovely house where the owners live, and is very private, as the house sits in a meadow off of a country road. And whether you want to relax or traverse the region, it's a perfect location. The town of Volcan is only 20 minutes, Boquete no more than an hour -- with good paved roads in every direction. Having stayed at a few other places in the area, I will only come back when this rental is available, as it has no comparison. Whether for 2 days or 2 weeks, this is the place to stay.

Amazing Property - Amazing Owners - Perfect Place To Stay In Volcan To Relax

My girlfriend and I with our dog wagging along stayed at this amazing property for 6 days over Christmas 2010. We had lived in the area before, and knew it well, and wanted to re visit Volcan to get out of Panama City for a few days to relax and unwind. The owners property (their names with-held for privacy) was absolutely beautiful and located smack dab on a river with green grass, blooming flowers and plants, singing birds, 2 fun loving dogs, and a nice fenced yard for my dog (property is very dog friendly). The attached luxury apartment is more like a mini house...with a top balcony and also a bottom patio. The luxury apartment has 2 bathrooms, well stocked kitchen for cooking, washer/dryer, and all the amenities you will need to make this place your home for your stay. It is about a 15 minute drive from the town of Volcan and about a 60 minute drive from the city of David. I cant say enough good things about the owners, the property, the luxury apartment, and the area it is located in...its really great. If you are looking to visit Chiriqui, do yourself a favor and stay here...you will be glad you did. I would also like to mention that the property is larger than we expected, the luxury apartment better fitted than we expected, and the attached pictures dont do it justice...its much better in person.

A fantastic stay in a wonderful country with wonderful people. This apartment is truly luxury and the hosts are very accomodating and great to be around. They are very knowledgable about the area and they treat you like you live there full time. We had 3 adults staying and the apartment was perfect with two levels so you got some separation time if needed. The gounds were immaculate and each morning it was a pleasure to walk the garden like area. We will not hesitate to stay there again in the future and actuall plan on it.
