Located just minutes from the prestigious resort village of Highlands, this fabulous vacation cottage is playfully named 'ON THE ROCKS' because of it's siting directly on the banks of the rushing waters and shoals of Big Creek. Listening to the wonderful gushing water sounds below, one can relax on the upper or lower wrap around screened in porch boasting panoramic views up and down this river- like creek.Or, meander down stone steps to the banks of this ideallic spot, curl up in an Adirondeck chair sipping your favorite beverage and watch your children splash in the waters or try to catch a rainbow trout!The old grist mill just upstream completes the ambience. This place is the perfect romantic, stylish and fun, upscale but comfortable, mountain cottage. The fully equipped kitchen and bar area are stunningly decorated with a sophisticated mountain chic flair and open to the great room with a vaulted ceiling, stacked stone mantle and fireplace, and Adirondeck railing running up the stairs to the master suite. On both levels french doors open across the entire stretch of the rooms on to the screened in porches giving the effect of being in a huge treehouse. Many a festive dinner party has been served around the French Farm Table which comfortably sits 10. This place is the ideal get a way for adult couple/couples or family vacation. OOzes charm
The configuration of the bedrooms at On The Rocks makes it ideal for two to three couples to have comfortable private living spaces. The primary MBR Suite is on the upper level of the house and includes a full bath, a small office/dressing area, a loft area and two generous closets. There is a pencil post King Size bed and a vaulted ceiling.
On the main level of the house are two bedrooms which could be considered another private master suite or two separate bedrooms sharing a large bath. One bedroom has a Queen size pencil post bed, the other bedroom a full size bed and twin bed. The lower level of the house could be a third private living suite. This is the fourth bedroom area.
Located here is a full size Murphy bed, walk in closet, and full bath and sitting area with sofa and club chairs. The other use of this spacious area is for downstairs entertaining. There is a big screen TV, pool table/ping pong, and game table. French doors across this entire room open to the huge screened in porch with stairs leading to Big Creek below.
There are hardwood floors throughout the entire house. The kitchen is outfitted with stylish serving dishes and stemware; the all white linens (towels & sheets) are spa level. The owners of the house want their guests to experience the feeling of residing at a luxury Bed & Breakfast.
This house is situated on 3.9 acres of property is shared by three cottage owners, and is located just off Billy Cabin Road, a very special wooded secluded and under developed area of Highlands.One can walk out the door and for hours explore wooded trails, creek beds, and mountain vistas. The village of Highlands is minutes away for a juxaposition experience of couture apparel shopping, antiquing,symphony, little theater,The Bascom Art & Crafts Museum, and fine dining in restaurants and side walk cafes
. This area of North Carolina is known for strenuous hiking, white wate rafting, fly fishing, golf, and primitive American history. The city of Ashville is located approximately 1 1/2 hrs away where one can visit the Biltmore Mansion and winery and experience the culture of a small but beautiful American city.

It felt like home ... only nicer ! We were all very comfortable and the setting was lovely ! The "babbling brook" was so relaxing.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

My family and I had a wonderful and relaxing vacation at ''On The Rocks" recently. The house is a home -- very warm and inviting. We had everything we could possibly need at our fingertips. The beds were comfortable, the decor was lovely, and the porch was the stuff dreams are made of. The kids loved the hammock on the lower porch -- and of course tubing on the creek -- and my husband and I loved the loveseat and chairs on the upper porch. We needed a place to relax and recharge and we found it! We can't wait to come again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Wonderful week! Family has vacationed in Highlands/Cashiers for 15 years, and this was the perfect home.for our four adults and two gradeschoolers(4th, 6th grades). Despite the closeness of Highlands (2 miles) we felt fully into nature, be it walking/hiking, fishing/enjoying the creek below, or relaxing at the house. Highlight in our opinion was the wonderful screened porches, with their comfortable reading, conversing, or eating locations with the background sounds of the gurgling creek below. . Ambiance of the porch candles at night was especially neat. Never turned on a tv the entire week. First thing anyone did on getting up in the a.m.(usually rather late) was to turn on the Bose to Highlands 104.5 FM--what a wonderful, relaxing station. In fact, I'm listening to it now from my office computer back home in AL. Though much closer to town this year than others, made fewer trips into town given that we enjoyed being at "On the Rocks" so. Furnishings were elegant and upscale-confortable, from the decorator touches throughout to the high quality linens/towels, kitchen appliances/cookingcutensils/flatware/glassware. It's obvious owners spend much time here. They were extra accommodating in our last day decision to extend stay an extra day! Our family plans to spend another week here in 2013! .Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Beautifully decorated, clean home. We had a great time. The rushing water just outside your door is so peaceful. The house has such a homey feel, you never want to leave. So convenient to shopping and wonderful restaurants at the same time secluded and private. Would recommend to anyone! Your house had all the right elements for a mountain house.... spectacular view of the creek, wonderful porches, great beds and bed linens, loved your upscale mountain decor and openness of the whole place! The kids had fine time in the privacy of their lower level space. Hope they didnt do too much damage to ping pong and pool table. Great walking trails and close to town.Loved the shopping! Your cottage is THE BEST!!! we loved hiking (esp the gorge!), fly fishing, the wonderful restaurants, but most of all, sitting on your porch and listening to the roar of Big Creek!
