Our bungalow on Casuarina Point is located 16 miles southwest of Marsh Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas. A small community of approx. 20 beach houses on over 10 miles of pure white sandy beaches and aqua blue water. Protected by a barrier reef approx. 1/2 mile off shore the waters are very gentle and quietly lap the shoreline.
Van Gogh by the Sea offers a main home with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as two guest houses nearby! Each guest house offers a bedroom and a bathroom. Rent the main house by itself, with one of the guest houses or rent all three! Have you ever wanted to just kick back, relax and veg -out knowing the outside world is far, far away? Also, a great escape for honeymooners.
The aqua blue ocean is 30 yards out the back door! My wife relaxes with a book on a beach chair at the ocean's edge. I think about my choices of the day:
A. Go Bone Fishing- that means get my Fly rod and walk out the door down the beach and wade out 100 yds in knee deep crystal clear aqua blue water and start casting for the worlds greatest sport fish. Casuarina Point is right smack in the middle of the best bone fishing in the world. B. My second choice is to grab my flippers and snorkel, go out the back door to wade and then swim to the Coral Reef and catch a lobster or two for dinner. Or, C. Yesterday I went fishing with my neighbor. In a little over one hour we caught a Grouper,a Trigger fish, and a Strawberry Snapper. ( Local fishing guides are available at very reasonable rates.)
Today I elected to snorkel out to the reef where I am always facinated by all the colors and living organisms on the reef. Using a small hand held spear I got my lobster (local divers use gloves and pick lobsters up with their hands). On the swim in I spied a conch on the ocean floor about 6 feet down, picked up and added to my Bounty. (Conch salad, conch fritters, and cracked conch is a delicacy.) So tonight we dine on lobster and conch salad.
Meanwhile while I was snorkeling, my wife slipped into town to have a grouper sandwich at Mangoes Restaurant on the water in Marsh Harbor and do some tourist shopping at local boutiques, tax free liquor, jewerly, and watches (prices ar very low).
Every day I wake up and decide on whether to fish, swim, take the ferry to Hopetown or one of over a dozen other beautiful barrier islands. Day tripping to several barrier islands takes less than half an hour to get to the island. There are wonderful beaches and hotels where you can get a great meal. These islands are usually one to three miles long and accessed by golf carts.
However I like to spend my time just walking the beaches, picking up shells, spending time in a beach chair with a good book in the ocean in about one foot of water, drinking ice cold coconut milk,or ice tea or a local beer ("Klik" the national beer of the Bahamas, local beer is great)
There are lots of other things to do here, dine out, golf, tennis, big game sport fishing for those on the go and bucks to spend. However, we spend most of our time at home on the beach and in the water. A very affordable vacation with lots of quality time recharging our bodies to prepare for life back home.
Van Gogh by the Sea sleeps up to 14 people- 4 bedrooms each with a queen convertible. It is best to fly in, rent a small car, stop at one of 3 grocery stores for provisions for the house for the week. There are local banks and ATM's.
Our kitchens are well stocked with all the basics. Complete service for 16 people. Lots of pots, pans and tupperware. There are sheets, towels, and pillowcases for up to 16 people.
