Tucked in the trees on a mountainside on the outskirts of Lake City, you will find the perfect log cabin for your summer or winter get-away. It is close to the heart of Lake City, but is secluded on 1 1/2 acres, and is bordered by BLM forests. The south facing home has beautiful views of the San Juan Mountains surrounding the town. Relax in the sunroom, which runs the length of the home, or in the picnic area in front -- and enjoy the unobstructed views of T Mountain and Roundtop, or of Lake City just below and across the river.

You can easily walk into town, crossing the river on the walking bridge, to enjoy shopping in the various shops, or eating ice cream at the soda shop. Lake San Cristobal, the 2nd largest natural lake in Colorado, is a short 10 minute drive down Hwy. 149. The area is famous for great fishing, with plenty of lakes, rivers and streams for you to find your very own private fishing hole. And you are within a mile of the Alpine Loop--your gateway to ATVing, sightseeing, picnicing, hiking or biking.

The house itself is 2400 sq. ft. and provides 3 large bedrooms and 2 baths. The fully equipped kitchen has all the conveniences of home, and the large dining room has a table which extends for large groups. The sun room is a great place to enjoy meals also, and to watch the deer which often visit just outside the windows. Across the driveway you'll find a large grassy picnic area with a picnic table and firepit stocked with firewood. In the evening kids of all ages can stoke up a fire for those hot dogs and smores---and when the sun goes down, warm themselves by the fire and marvel at the millions of stars in the heavens.

When you come for a visit on this forested mountainside, we can guarantee you'll wish you had planned to stay longer ! ! !

I have stayed here twice and plan to go back. The place is charming. After a day in the mountains this is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty. We have toasted marshmellows around the fire and looked down upon the valley in the cool night air. Plenty of room in a spotless house. This couple has gone out of its way to make guests feel at home. We had great times fishing in the streams and Lake Cristobel.

We were privileged enough to stay at this wonderful vacation home in the middle of winter and it was a white wonderland. The town was quaint, and the house was perfectly accommodating. It was the perfect getaway for us coming from a busy, hot, and loud city. We were able to go to Lake City Ski Hill, drive though the breathtaking view of the mountains and frozen rivers to get to Wolf Creek ski area, go a little further to Pagosa Springs bath house, go snowmobiling with Lake City Auto up to 71 Mountain (nearly 13,000 ft.), and sled down the snowy hill right outside the house. It's close enough to town that we could walk and enjoy a nice drink at the local coffee shop, but on a hill so there's plenty of privacy for when we wanted to scream as we went sledding down the hill. It was SO fun! We loved every minute of our vacation in Lake City, and are so glad we had this lovely home to stay in. It couldn't have been better!

I would give this house 10 STARS if I could!!! Bob and Kaki live in this house part-time and rent it out when they are back in Texas. From the first time my family rented their humble abode, we felt comfortable as if it were our own home. It's a perfect family cabin. Here are some points that should be mentioned about why we love the house itself: Location - The location could not be better! The cabin is on the border of BLM land, tucked away at the top of the quiet "Ball Flats" neighborhood off the beaten path, though it's less than a mile walk to Silver Street (Poker Face Alice, Jesse James, and Billy the Kid's old stomping ground). Simply take the well maintained walking trail by the river and enjoy the beautiful Victorian era houses along the way. And, the view from the house is UNBEATABLE. Cleanliness - 5 starts (out of 5 stars). Box checked. Plenty of towels, linens, and all the kitchenware ready for action. Responsiveness & helpfulness - When I call Bob, he answers. He's the kind of guy who meticulously works through all the details ahead of time - so when you have a question before your rental date, he already has the answer for you. Like, how to log onto the free wifi or for recommendations for local restaurants. He's on top of it. I would would highly recommend this hidden gem if there's availability. Thanks, Bob and Kaki. You guys rule!

Just a note to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed your home last week. Your managers, the Olsons, were very kind. The storage was wonderful. The space worked very well and I was so happy to see gas cooking. The kids had plenty of space outside to play and picnic. Everyone enjoyed their time there. Thank you again for letting us borrow your home!

I don't think I got to share with you, but last June we had such a great time at your place. Bicycling, running, and jeeping the Alpine Loop were fantastic, and coming back to your house each night was a special treat. I'm planning our winter break trip for January, and I wanted to firm up our dates for 2011 . . .

As we prepare to pack up and return home tomorrow, I wanted to take a minute to thank you for the opportunity to stay here in your gorgeous Lake City home. We have enjoyed being here so much!! It's beautiful everywhere you look, and the house is like having the comforts of home! I wanted you to know how much we've enjoyed our stay here! The kids are so fascinated by the numerous deer who wander up (we all are), we've loved playing in the snow, sledding and hiking - thanks for the suggestions! We took a day trip to Crested Butte for skiing one day - an easy trip and a great day as well. But it was nice to return to your home for the night. We've had a great week! We may be back this summer!

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed staying in your nicely-appointed home! Our daughter sat right down to a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle, and our son to the piano. We loved the arrangement of the fire pit and spent a lot of time out there soaking up the sun and enjoying the view. Also, a marathon Monopoly game in the sun room was real highlight :-) We appreciated the restaurant recommendations - the dining out was great! We also had a nice night in, grilling burgers and brats. We hope your home is available for our next trip to Lake City (what a gem of a town!). We had a wonderful time.
