Our family built this Farm in 1652 and it has been in family hands ever since. We finished the remodelling of the main house in 2007.
If you are looking to relax, bring the whole family and looking to have a convenient base to tour Saxonia- you'll find it right here in Hartha-Frankenstein. But don't worry, there are no Frankenstein monsters here!
We have an apartment with kitchen, family room, bed room and bathroom and 2 extra guest rooms each with a private bathroom.
Karl and Brigitte are your gracious hosts and they will be happy to cook breakfast for you with farm fresh eggs (yes- you can get them yourself) and honey from the bees just behind the house. You will love the home made jams and jellies- but watch out if you come during harvest time- you may end up filling jam and honey jars with us. Or, perhaps you'll be here in spring and see the baby chicks, lambs and kittens. You can always sneak away and hike in our acres of forest nearby.
We are 45 minute from Dresden with it's beautiful castles, museums, and the Saxon Switzerland - Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the Elbe River and Meissen with the Porzelaine factory and museum.
Dresden boasts the Striezelmarket, the oldest documented Christmas market in Germany, dating to 1434. It is the home of the largest “Christmas Pyramid”- 45-foot-high wood structure lit with candles that spin the tiers of the decorated pyramid.
The tradition for Christmas wood carving comes from the Erzgebirge, or “ Ore mountain,” an old mining region south of the city that borders the Czech Republic. Nutcrackers and “smoking man” incense holders were originally created here.
The Stollen Festival is another highlight of the market, with the largest loaf of Christstollen-a buttery, spiced loaf weighting between 3 and 4 tons- cut here and served to visitors (check for the date).
Freibourg with the biggest mineral collection of the world is only a 30 minute drive.
The city was founded in 1186, and has been a center of the mining industry in the Ore Mountains for centuries. A symbol of this history is the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (famously known as the Mining Academy), established in 1765 and the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world. Freiberg also has a notable cathedral containing two famous Gottfried Silbermann organs. Furthermore there are two other organs made by Gottfried Silbermann - one at the St. Peter's Church (Petrikirche) and the other one at the St. James' Church (Jacobikirche). The medieval part of Freiberg stands under heritage protection.
Only five minutes away is the regionally famous Råuberschånke--Robber's Hideout--with its excellent food and 9 bowling alleys! Just beyond that is the charming village of Oederan with the Klein Ertzgebirge. Amazing miniature monuments will be fun for adults and kids. A link to the website is below.

Hi Jana, A quick note to tell you how much we enjoyed staying those two nights at the farm with your parents. We LOVED it! It was so nice of your dad to be outside waiting for us, I'm sure we would have spent quite a bit of time trying to pin point the exact location otherwise!! We fell in love with one of the kittens, wanted to take her with us! And the jam!!! We did take some of that home with us!! The most interesting thing was that I found out that my great great grandfather's second wife, Agnus Amelia Richter, was from Hartha! I have to investigate that a little more thoroughly!! Thanks again for a wonderful stay!!
