This is one of the most rare and wonderful oceanfront vacation homes on the New England sea coast. House by the Sea is a home of substance and style from a bygone era. The area is dotted with shingled homes w beautiful gardens. Restored yester-year charm (with modern upgrades for comfort, such as central air conditioning, modern antique-replica plumbing, a Bosch dishwasher, six-burner Aga stove), this home is idyllic for unforgettable family vacations. The broad oceanfront porches invite you to decompress gazing at the incomparable view. Or spread out your lobster dinner on the big screened oceanfront porch, or nap to the sounds of the surf, check your email using our complimentary Wi-Fi, loll in the hammock under the shade tree, seeing only your toes and the water beyond. This amazing house has 5 bedrooms (all w ocean views) 3 bthrms, 1915 beamed living room and dining rm, wraparound oceanfront porch
Impressive (but not pretentious), large (but still intimate), this is your place for romping at the beach, gazing at the view, lolling in the hammock, using high speed Internet in the beamed living room or at the curved window seat overlooking the water, creating great seafood dinners in the updated vintage kitchen, dining in the handsome wainscotted dining room with three sides flanked by windows, drinks at sunset, needlepoint or napping on the breezy screen porch, writing memoirs or painting watercolors on the veranda, swimming and sunning on the sandy beach (stairs go down from the property), and rejuvenating in an incomparable and memorable spot -- or enjoy exploring nearby historic Plymouth, Sandwich, the Cape and Islands. House by the Sea is decorated in restrained Nantucket style. Its oceanfront living has wainscotting, beams, paintings, and books.
A high tech gas old fashioned looking fireplace capable of heating the whole house from the living room fireplace, is dreamy in the 'shoulder seasons' warming the adventurous soul in the colder weeks, contrasting the drama of the crashing waves below. The intimate living room opens to the beamed dining room with ocean views and a marvelous craftsman quality bay window seat. This is a perfect spot for memorable meals, board games, music, TV, or perfect silence in the evening. The pantry has wineglasses in racks, coffee maker, a stainless-steel two-drawer refrigerator for wine and seltzer, and a view onto a deck. The well-equipped kitchen has a new, six-burner electric Aga cooker, stainless steel refrigerator, and honed granite countertops. Mahogany Adirondack chairs line up on the veranda where you can watch a sunrise over coffee or catch a glimpse of the big dipper on a mild summer night in New England.
A kitchen-side deck has a gas grill and patio table, umbrella and chairs. Picnic table on the lawn and a rope swing from a picturesque oak add to the yesteryear peace and tranquility of this incomparable home.
There is something special about seeing the ocean surf, bluffs, and beach through 100-year-old wavy glass, vintage lilacs, happy birds, butterflies, and (depending on the season) seals frolicking offshore.
Each of the four bedrooms (plus a 5th bedroom which used to be the maid's private room, but which is now open to the stair railing, making an open loft) has a view of the ocean. Three oceanfront bedrooms have spectacular ocean views, antiques, and comfort, where you will fall asleep to the sound of the rhythmic surf below your window. The largest bedroom is a bunk room for the kids and has two sets of bunk beds plus an additional single bed.

I know I should have written this a couple of years back after our visit, I do apologies Robin! We were the last ones of the season to stay in this beautiful beachside home; we were there for one week on our Canadian Thanksgiving, Mid October 2010. Robin had some concerns with our heat source as there is no central heating for winter stays. No worries with that, I don’t even think we turned on an electric heater. The house was equipped with a gas fireplace but nightly we would have a fire outside and sip our red wine, tell stories of the days explorations and listen intently to the ocean below. What a fantastic house this was to stay in, we were very fortunate be able to enjoy such a great house and as luck would have it, the weather was absolutely amazing the whole week, side from the last night, where a very heavy wind storm rolled in. I battened down the hatches, moved all the outside furnishings into the garage and the seat cushions into the house. The hurricane force winds did absolutely nothing to this solid structure, lots of creaking going on but nothing else. My wife and I wanted to give her Mother a holiday to remember, she had never travelled to the Eastern shores of the US, and it was just the 3 of us in this large home, what a treat. Afterwards we spent a week in New York City at the Park Plaza for a further 7 days; I consider the two places on the same plan only much different environments, five stars all the way. My Mother in-law got ill shortly after our trip and has since passed away, this was to be our last trip together and neither me nor my wife would have a changed a thing. Thank you Robin, you have such a flare for designing that it immediately draws you into to a comfort zone of being home. My wife and I still speak of our journey and hope to one day return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We arrived at the House by the Sea and were abosolutely amazed at the beautiful setting and breathtaking ocean view. We were a large group of 12 and all fit very comfortably in the house, the 3 bathrooms are a plus! We so enjoyed getting up early to sit on the porch with our coffee and watch the sunrise. The children practically lived on the beach, which was never crowded. The stairs to the beach are long, but sturdy and not difficult to navigate - you do get your exercise! We did enjoy a lobster feast from the Lobster Pound which is not far from the house. The location is great - we took a few day trips into Plymouth and also went out to the Cape, everything is so close by. The house itself is beautiful, a true classic. It was fully stocked with everything you'd need for a week's stay. We'd definitely book again, thanks Robin!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

What can I say? When my sister-in-law said she wanted to go whale watching, it was her only thing on the "bucket list", I was in!! Robin, your house and property and everything that came with it was amazing!! We had a more than wonderful time and it exceeded our expectations. I am looking at VRBO for other properties in other locations, but using yours as a standard is not easy. I would definitely recommend the "House by the Sea" to anyone wishing for an amazing and relaxing get away! Don't let the steps to the beach intimidate you. Hopefully, we will be back again.Recommended for: Pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Aside from the breathtaking view, this home is a perfect location for a summer vacation. It is nestled away from traffic and noise, but is close enough to the essentials (grocery store, coffee shop, ice cream shop) to walk. Yet the restaurants and activies of Plymouth are close enough for a quick trip. Better yet, the Lobster Pound is nearby and will have your lobsters steamed and ready for you to pick up at the time you request. Great lobster, bisques, fresh fish, etc.The home is very comfortable and accommodating of a large famiy and/or friends. The front porch is a great gathering place for watching the sun rise, or with a glass of wine at dusk. The view is spectacular, and if forces relaxation. The beach is nice and we never experienced anything close to a crowd there. Younger children love to catch the hermit crabs that inhabit the shallow water. Families bring their dogs, play horseshoes and volleyball, and enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks, Robin, for sharing this wonderful property and for all of the thoughtful touches you add. We cannot wait to return!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

(an email sent just before departing:) "Robin, I wanted to let you know that we have had an absolutely wonderful time at your "House by the Sea". The location was great for the day trips we took in various directions. But truthfully, who wanted to leave the house? I could have sat swinging on your porch for hours and never felt the need to get up. I enjoyed listening to the waves each evening and morning from the center bedroom and never minded the sun shining in my eyes at insanely early hours. Your home has made some unforgetable family memories. Thank you again and God bless you for sharing your home."Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

(from our Guest Book) "Robin, the house was great and we had everything we needed. It was terrific being so close to the beach, and being able to walk down to it was idyllic. We had a wonderful time walking on the beach and finding beautiful rocks and 1800s era pennies. Our dog loved it also, it was nice being able to bring him with us. Thank you." Why the Owner Chose Manomet:
This incredible oceanfront 'cottage' was one of the first few built on these beautiful bluffs. If you see the antique postcards, there are a couple or three standing on an otherwise wild and natural coastline. Almost uninhabited. And even today, as a few homes grew up around the gracious lady of a home, they were of the time, vintage, nostalgic, yesteryear. The seller knew her stuff, and wanted much more than the market would bear, and it was way beyond my means. I bought a lesser house in the neighborhood. Then sold it. Then tried to help the seller with her sale to another party. It fell through. Then there we stood, she and I, with this house between us, and a shockingly high price I never thought a mere mortal could deal with. Then, with owner financing, some sacrifices and changes, House by the Sea became ours, at a staggering price and huge improvements long overdue. Optimism was easy - this is nirvana. Each year, our investments in the home have brought it closer and closer to perfection. One of these days, we may even go beyond it! We've just added a powerful heating system, so now you can come for long contemplative winter beach walks, and get cozy by the fire when you return, with your English pudding in the Aga.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
White sugar-sand beach, Hawaii-like views, authentic 1910 architecture, incomparable spot, beach stairs, broad lawn, precious neighborhood with lots of amenities, just an amazing, wonderful place to be any time of year.
