I know I should have written this a couple of years back after our visit, I do apologies Robin! We were the last ones of the season to stay in this beautiful beachside home; we were there for one week on our Canadian Thanksgiving, Mid October 2010. Robin had some concerns with our heat source as there is no central heating for winter stays. No worries with that, I don’t even think we turned on an electric heater. The house was equipped with a gas fireplace but nightly we would have a fire outside and sip our red wine, tell stories of the days explorations and listen intently to the ocean below. What a fantastic house this was to stay in, we were very fortunate be able to enjoy such a great house and as luck would have it, the weather was absolutely amazing the whole week, side from the last night, where a very heavy wind storm rolled in. I battened down the hatches, moved all the outside furnishings into the garage and the seat cushions into the house. The hurricane force winds did absolutely nothing to this solid structure, lots of creaking going on but nothing else. My wife and I wanted to give her Mother a holiday to remember, she had never travelled to the Eastern shores of the US, and it was just the 3 of us in this large home, what a treat. Afterwards we spent a week in New York City at the Park Plaza for a further 7 days; I consider the two places on the same plan only much different environments, five stars all the way. My Mother in-law got ill shortly after our trip and has since passed away, this was to be our last trip together and neither me nor my wife would have a changed a thing. Thank you Robin, you have such a flare for designing that it immediately draws you into to a comfort zone of being home. My wife and I still speak of our journey and hope to one day return.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Great family getaway

We arrived at the House by the Sea and were abosolutely amazed at the beautiful setting and breathtaking ocean view. We were a large group of 12 and all fit very comfortably in the house, the 3 bathrooms are a plus! We so enjoyed getting up early to sit on the porch with our coffee and watch the sunrise. The children practically lived on the beach, which was never crowded. The stairs to the beach are long, but sturdy and not difficult to navigate - you do get your exercise! We did enjoy a lobster feast from the Lobster Pound which is not far from the house. The location is great - we took a few day trips into Plymouth and also went out to the Cape, everything is so close by. The house itself is beautiful, a true classic. It was fully stocked with everything you'd need for a week's stay. We'd definitely book again, thanks Robin!

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

What can I say? When my sister-in-law said she wanted to go whale watching, it was her only thing on the "bucket list", I was in!! Robin, your house and property and everything that came with it was amazing!! We had a more than wonderful time and it exceeded our expectations. I am looking at VRBO for other properties in other locations, but using yours as a standard is not easy. I would definitely recommend the "House by the Sea" to anyone wishing for an amazing and relaxing get away! Don't let the steps to the beach intimidate you. Hopefully, we will be back again.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Superb location!

Aside from the breathtaking view, this home is a perfect location for a summer vacation. It is nestled away from traffic and noise, but is close enough to the essentials (grocery store, coffee shop, ice cream shop) to walk. Yet the restaurants and activies of Plymouth are close enough for a quick trip. Better yet, the Lobster Pound is nearby and will have your lobsters steamed and ready for you to pick up at the time you request. Great lobster, bisques, fresh fish, etc.The home is very comfortable and accommodating of a large famiy and/or friends. The front porch is a great gathering place for watching the sun rise, or with a glass of wine at dusk. The view is spectacular, and if forces relaxation. The beach is nice and we never experienced anything close to a crowd there. Younger children love to catch the hermit crabs that inhabit the shallow water. Families bring their dogs, play horseshoes and volleyball, and enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks, Robin, for sharing this wonderful property and for all of the thoughtful touches you add. We cannot wait to return!

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The location was great for the day trips we took in various directions. But truthfully, who wanted to leave the house? I could have sat swinging on your porch for hours and never felt the need to get up. I enjoyed listening to the waves each evening and morning from the center bedroom and never minded the sun shining in my eyes at insanely early hours. (from a lovely, humorous email) "Dear Robin, as always, our experience with a Jareaux property was outstanding. I love - love - love to admire your decorating skills and your ability to retain the historic beauty of a home. We had a lot of fun debating for days about which place we liked the best, "SandyToes" or "House by the Sea." It was a very close contest and ended up being a draw...we concluded that SandyToes had a slight lead as a house, but that Manomet had a slight lead as a beach. Bottom line, we loved 'em both! You might be amused by this anecdote, as a contrast to the way you conduct your rentals. We belatedly decided we needed to rent a second, "lesser" house to accommodate any visitors that might come for a day or two to say hi to my parents...basically, we just wanted to have some bedrooms and showers available for them to use, if they chose to stay overnight. My husband, John, and I would stay at that house to oversee. The house rented for $2800 and was on Manomet Point. We arrived at 4:00, the designated check-in time. We walked in and found that the house hadn't been cleaned. We were welcomed by cigarette ashes in the sinks, dirty towels on the bathroom floors, unmade beds with the previous tenants' linens still on them, dirty dishes in the sink, etc. There was even a dog poo on the deck. So gross! As I was getting out my cell phone to call the landlord, he arrived at the house and explained they had been at a graduation (okay...?). So, we had to keep our luggage in the car and drive to HBTS while they cleaned. They called me at 8:30 p.m. (!!!) to tell me the house was now ready. True, the house was now spotlessly cleaned but, as they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Also, the house was essentially unusable for our first day and we were very disappointed. The house was subsequently referenced in conversation, for our remaining days, as The Dog Poo House. What else can you do but laugh...So, you see, you have spoiled us for life! Nothing else can ever come close to your house management skills, for our Massachusetts trips! My parents spoke glowingly about you and about how much I would like you if I met you. You made them feel very welcome. I am glad we had such a lovely place to celebrate. Dad has been battling cancer, so it is important for us to make these memories. Your properties are a like a box of gourmet chocolat

What a fantastic place "House by the Sea" is!! This was our first time visiting the Cape and your home was the perfect place to spend the week! This house was perfect for our family as we all had private space when we needed it. The special touch of a note to welcome us to your home started our stay off nicely. We loved the front porch swing, especially in the mornings to watch the sun come up. What a great location for anything and everything you could want to do; shopping, Martha's Vineyard, golf....you have it all. Thanks for a great vacation!! The Sandman Family

We went to House by the Sea for the first family vacation in years. There was 9 of us and there was so much to see and do that we were amazed. The kitchen was amazing and we had our meals on the enclosed porch. For those who were book lovers, we had an opportunity to read by the sea and enjoy the sea air. We hope to have an opportunity to visit again one day. Thanks again.

I could not begin to say enough about our stay at "House by the Sea" We arrived late from the Boston Airport. When we drove up and saw the house lit up against the night sky it was such a welcoming sight. They had left every single light on in the house I think. Every lamp! It felt so welcoming! Our group was 8 Pastor's wives who go somewhere different every year to "recharge!" This house was perfect for that. It had plenty of bathrooms and plenty of space! Everything written in the web site is true. You will NOT be disappointed renting this place. We spent two days just enjoying the house and the surroundings! Robin and John are wonderful people who are there in a flash if you encounter any problem. I want to return with my family now! Thanks Robin and John. We loved your house and loved meeting you!

"We've had an absolutely magical stay at House by the Sea and this beautiful area. We've spent a day in Plymouth, 2 or 3 days around Cape Cod, a day in Boston and a day on Martha's Vineyard. Oh, and we spent a day milling around the house and playing on the beach (it is october, after all) for some R and R time. All in all, we love the area and have thoroughly enjoyed staying at this wonderful house (my dad said he'd love to live in this house permanently - it's a wonderful design.)"

As the other comments indicate, this house is fabulous! It is better than the pictures show -- the view just cannot be captured accurately in a photo. It is a very special place and is perfect for a family gathering. The owners have done a great job making the house comfortable for guests and insuring you have a great experience there. They live nearby and are very responsive if there is any question or issue. We hope to experience House by the Sea again in the future!

The house and location are even more gorgeous than the photos show - plenty of room for our family of 4 adults and 4 kids under 6. We had a wonderful time on the huge wraparound porch, the rope swing, the hammock, the adirondack chairs. When the tide is out there is amazing beachcombing, and the view is spectacular. This is the best house by far that we saw on all of our walks and drives in the area, and Manomet beats the pants off the Cape for natural beauty. The house is located in a gorgeous hilly neighborhood of friendly people, and Robin and John have decorated it and renovated it beautifully while staying true to its original character. We had a magical vacation at the House by the Sea, everything we had hoped for.

Dear Robin and John: Thank you so much for doing such a beautiful job refurbishing this house and sharing it with us. We could not imagine a more perfect location, gorgeous porch and lawn, or a more thoughtfully decorated and appointed home. Every single room has such a fantastic view. We spent many happy days just on the porch, in front of the fire, on the hammock and rope swing. The 4 kids, all 6 and under, had so much laughter and joy here. 4things we would heartily recommend: Cappy's Pizza, a day trip to Nantucket on the Fast Ferry, and Plymouth. Thank you so much for everything. Your exquisite description on VRBO website was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! -- Saul, JoAnn, Sam, Sophia, Max, Dana, Sarah and Emma.

(from our guestbook) What a wonderful week of absolute rest, relaxation, and renewal. Cocktails and Scrabble on the table at 5. Dinner at 8pm. We only went out twice for dinner! Jogging and walk to store for newspaper, 3 hour breakfasts in the ocean view. This house is just ideal for us. We love the old-fashioned spell of House by the Sea-- swings, hammocks, nooks. Perfect house and week-is it available next year? (2005)

(from our guestbook) "We have vacationed together for nearly a decade and found "Paradise by the Sea" to be the BEST experience EVER ! We feel fortunate to have found such a home with the greatest amenities and a caring owner's touch. Our favorite activities included walking and biking along Manomet Lane, visiting the beach, collecting hermit crabs and some beautiful sunshine. A few of us frequented both courses at Pine Hills Golf Club. The kids enjoyed Plimoth Plantation loved the Pirate Cruise. Little Mickey asked his mom, "Can this be our beach house every year?" The porch overlooking the water and the company of old friends will always stay with us. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful place with us -- we took care of your home with great pride. Thank you! See you next year !!

The kitchen & house are appointed beautifully. We grilled all but one night-- we never left except to go to the bait shop and to dinner once. The beach is amazing and so are all of your neighbors. They are all very lovely people. I was actually hoping for a storm to come through so we could watch from the porch -- maybe next year. The girls couldn't get enough of the beach, lots of wonderful children to play with. The only sad point was that we actually had to leave. Thank you for a wonderful piece of paradise." (from our guestbook) "We had a great time-the house is beautiful! We especially loved the porch swing and watching the full moon rise over the water. We have 7 kids 4months to 8 years and since the weather was fantastic, we never left the beach. We have made memories here that will last a lifetime. (P.S. The striper fishing was a blast!)"
