Nicely appointed Conch House in quiet neighborhood (location, location!)

Spent 5 nights in this nicely renovated conch house with my husband, our college-age son and friend. The listing description was accurate. The photos were representative though a few years old. The master bedroom was spacious and the master bath re-done nicely with tile shower. Found it well stocked with kitchen items, linens, paper goods and cleaning supplies. We appreciated the beach towels and chairs which were available. Location nice for walking distance to Duval Street and nearby neighborhood grocery stores. Bicycles make the entire island accessible. The property seemed well maintained but had a "closed up", musty odor. Recommend airing out as soon and as often as possible. Found the owner easy to work with and responsive to my inquiries. The onsite property contact was equally accessible, responsive and pleasant. While I would recommend this rental to others for the price, it has unrealized potential in landscaping charm that was evident in many other properties - the front and rear of the property were barren if not a bit unkempt. There is a screen porch off of the master bedroom which could be a nice attraction but offered view of cinderblock, storage, and old laundry line. Again, the rate was very reasonable (especially during the holiday season) and the renovations quite nice. Key West knows how to pack it in small spaces! Bike rentals from The Bike shop let us access Higgs Beach easily and later in the week Smathers Beach which is wider and sandier. At Higgs Beach we enjoyed Salute restaurant on the beach and later her sister restaurant, Blue Heaven, just the other side of Duval. Enjoyed New York Pasta late in the week and wish we had eaten there first - the portions are so large we could have had 1 or 2 lunches with leftovers. El Meson de Pepe (Pepe's cafe) near Mallory has been a long favorite of ours. Hemingway House and Sloppy Joe's are Key West must-sees. Sunset at Mallory and the art vendors and performers should not be missed.

This charming Conch Home could be perfect with the addition of a washing machine and dryer. On a quiet lane just a few blocks from a great restaurant (Duffy's) and a CVS, and just a short walk to the noise, restaurants, shopping and fun of Duval Street, this property is an ideal location for anyone staying in Key West. The only short coming is the lack of light blocking window coverings in the master bedroom. The interior of the house was clean and all appliances were in working order. The kitchen was as advertised with all of the utensils we needed to function easily. The local representative was just a phone call away, very congenial and most helpful.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
