Villa Matija is nestled comfortably into the hillside overlooking Brewers Bay on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands
Allow yourself a little luxury and be eco-friendly at the same time! Villa Matija (pronounced ma-TEE-ya) sits above Brewers Bay with an outstanding view of Jost Van Dyke and several other smaller cays & islands. On a clear day you can see Puerto Rico (about 70 miles away)!
Stay at Villa Matija and enjoy the beauty and comfortable climate of the Caribbean with all the comforts of home at your fingertips. Villa Matija is very comfortable for up to four people. The house has two master suites only, one with a private deck & outdoor shower, the other with direct access to the villa's porch, deck & plunge pool. The downstairs bedroom can be set up with a king size bed or two twins. This makes Villa Matija ideal for two couples or a family of four. A modern kitchen and home theatre/living room with a 58' plasma TV and surround sound make it a great place to stay home and relax. Generous outdoor space flows effortlessly inside giving the feel of being outside while inside or the other way around if you prefer (great when there's a passing rain shower!)
Villa Matija is partially powered with solar energy using two solar hot water panels and twelve photovoltaic (PV) panels. Instead of a generator powered by fossil fuel Villa Matija has an alternative energy system that can run the house for modest amounts of time with little attention and quite some time with careful energy management. And don’t worry, our solar hot water is backed up by a traditional hot water heater that provides an abundant supply of hot water whatever time of day you need to shower. While both bedrooms have air conditioning, we encourage our guests to leave the windows open at night with the fan on and the AC off to experience the local climate. Most evenings are cool with very pleasant sleeping weather.
Brewers Bay beach, one of the most beautiful in the BVI, is just a 3 minute drive down the hill. Cane Garden Bay, another favorite BVI beach, is a short 10 minute drive. Road Town, the capital of the BVI is also a 10 minute drive away, yet when you’re at Villa Matija, you feel like you’re in another world!
Enjoy the beaches, snorkeling or just lounge at the house. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be glad you chose Villa Matija as your home when you visit the BVI.

What a wonderful house. Great location to explore the island. Quiet at night. The pool was a lifesaver on the really hot days. I would definitely recommend Villa Matija to anyone looking for a comfortable base for their island exploration.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Villa Matija is a beautiful, private villa with magnificent views of Brewers Bay and Jost Van Dyke. We rented a jeep, I reccommend this so that you can visit all of the wonderful beaches on Tortola without taking a taxi. The villa has all of the amenities you need and Tom and Jessica are very helpful with tips when you book. This was a perfect villa with a great location and perfect views. I will be back to Villa Matija within the year, wonderful place!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Villa Matija in so many ways. Thank-you to the owners Tom and Jessica for your consideration and your kindness! The view is astonishing, and the design of the villa is so perfect for 1-4 people. (2 master suites with full shower suites plus outside shower off the upstairs bedroom), plus living area bathroom as well. The lovely contemporary design is spacious without being cumbersome, high vaulted ceilings and comfortable inside and out. The kitchen was terrific, gorgeous countertop design, full gourmet appliances, and equipped with just about everything you could think of wanting. There is a large wraparound covered balcony with a very private feel all around, private plunge pool, and there are multiple seating areas outside, loungers, porch chairs, artsy dining table, etc. The kitchen was gourmet; appliances are top rate, (the stove is mutil-fuel, and has powerful burners) and just about everything you could want and more is there. Tom and Jessica have tried to think of everything; it was great to be able to go to the beach with cooler filled with ice, beach chairs, beach towels, beach toys, etc.. Oh, and we so appreciated not going home at the end of trip with dirty clothes; great new w/d set in utility room. (extra fridge, sink, etc. there too) This villa is in a good place; it felt safe, with good access to Roadtown for supermarkets, and short ( and steep) drive to beautiful beaches. Highly recommended. Tom and Jessica were very professional, with prompt contact with contract, and they were kind enough to prorate a part of a week for us as well. We could have easily stayed longer if we had the time…it was so hard to leave that view.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This trip was our fourth visit to the BVI and our first time to bring along some friends. Without a doubt Villa Matija is the perfect setting for two couples to use during a BVI trip. The property is centrally located on the island. It's secluded which is a welcome change from some other villa experiences. It's wide open for great dinners outside. It also provides each couple with plenty of privacy as the bedrooms and bathrooms are on different levels of the house. If you plan on visiting, I highly recommend the private charter boat rental we arranged with Sunshine Pleasure Boats. Malcolm treated us like royalty as we spent a day cruisin, snorkelin, and drinkin from Virgin Gorda to Norman Island to The Indians. I'll never forget it! The island itself is paradise, but it's even more amazing when you find that perfect place to stay. Villa Matija is that place! We'll be back in 2013. My wife and I just returned from our 1 week vacation to Tortola. The villa lived up to and exceeded the pictures. I cant say enough about the view. Each morning, we made coffee and sat on the deck for a couple of hours. It was a great way to start the day. It was just the 2 of us so the house had plenty of space. We were surprised at how comfortable it stayed in the house without AC. I was surprised at how well thought out the villa was. The ceiling fans were placed in the right areas, the lights were well placed, the appliances were nice, it was just a well planned and executed villa. We looked forward to watching the sunset over Jost each day and spent the nights on the deck just hanging out. Muffin (the neighbor's dog) came to visit us a couple of times each day. She was sweet and well behaved. Overall, great place to stay. Good value. Unreal view.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The location of Villa Matija is perfect. It is quiet and serene with the birds calling over beautiful Brewer's bay. The house is very unique with many upgrades. The multiple decks with nice furniture and plunge pool are awesome. The kitchen was fully equipped and linens were clean and fresh. The house has been well maintained. My only critique is the sectional in the family room needs to be replaced-has a musty smell and shows wear. We enjoyed snorkeling in Smuggler's Cove and took the ferry to Virgin Gorda to the Baths-awesome! The food is very expensive. We brought a lot of food from home and bought the rest on the island. We grilled out every night. You will definitely need a jeep as the roads are poorly maintained and treacherous.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

It is hard to believe that the real views are even better than the pictures! My wife and two recent college grad children spent a week in paradise at VM. The villa is a great place in a great place. Getting to the island by ferry was fun, the hospitality shown by our hosts before, during and after our stay was the best. While in the BVI we took day trips exploring Tortola by car, ferries to other islands for day trips and scuba diving trips. While Tortola is great take a day at Virgin Gorda. I'd recommend Speedy's ferry and rental car on VG. Spend half a day at the Baths where you can have a nice lunch with a spectacular view, then drive the island taking in the North end including Leverick Bay Resort. We enjoyed all the islands and our daily activities, but we had breakfast and dinner everyday at our private villa with the spectacular view that others have mentioned. Coming back to VM each evening for a relaxing evening including a dip in the pool, the view and the relaxing dinners at the outdoor dining room. It doesn't get much better than this. My screen saver photos are all pics from VM. PS The interior of the Villa is well designed and furnished. Our kids enjoyed sending daily pics to all our friends, you could hear the groans of jealousy.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

6-12 June, 2009 My wife and I just got home yesterday and we wish we were back at the Villa. We had a great time and will be going back to Villa Matija soon. It is a great location in the center of the island and the view is outstanding. Very private and peaceful. We loved the house and every thing that went along with it. After spending a great day at the beautiful beaches close by or out in the water, we really looked forward to heading back to the house and having dinner watching the sun set. What a sight from this house.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
