Perhaps Arizona’s biggest surprise to travelers is how much of the state is swathed in Pine and Pinon forests. Noted for it’s expansive deserts and scorching temperatures, it is usually a very pleasant surprise to find what lies above 4,000 feet in elevation. At that point the Saguaros are gone as are most of the other spiny denizens of the desert. The transition zone as it is referred to is that delightful big sky country where the grasslands stretch for miles dotted with Juniper and Pinon, Yucca and Agave and of course rugged outcroppings of Granite and Sandstone.
The area surrounding the Village of Oak Creek is the spectacular landscape that serves as an introduction to legendary Sedona. The vibrant rust red of the Sedona Sandstone takes on otherworldly shapes as millions of years of wind and rain erosion have sculpted the rocks into “Bell Rock”, “Cathedral Rock”, and “Courthouse Rock” among many others. The irresistible draw to the area could be blamed on the famed “Vortexes” which only occur in a few places in the world according to the new age cognoscenti, or simply due to the extraordinary beauty. Trails into the deep canyons reveal shapes and textures with the native flora and fauna serving as a backdrop, and all at a cooler 4,200 ft. in elevation.
Terra Rossa is surrounded by the aforementioned Red Rocks and enjoys stunning vista at every turn. An expansive wraparound patio at the rear gets up close and personal with the deep rust colored soil, and invites early evening cocktails around the fireplace as the grill sears a round of rib eyes. A gurgling water feature welcomes you to the double wrought-iron front door, and the travertine floored entry just beyond. Indeed every hard surface floor in the home is a rare rose travertine, and every countertop is granite. The inviting family space features a 50” plasma flat-screen, a warming gas fireplace, twin overhead ceiling fans, a coffered tin ceiling, and of course views of the landscape.
This spacious four bedroom home is actually capable of sleeping 10 via 4 en suite bedrooms (three king, one queen) and a full sized futon in the entertainment room downstairs. Upstairs also includes an office and a full sized laundry room. The very well equipped kitchen features a Viking four-burner gas cook top with a 24” flattop and double ovens, a compactor, a 48” Sub-Zero ref/frz. and Bosh dishwasher all concealed under massive granite counters. The breakfast nook seats six as does the formal dining room seats 10. Decorative chandeliers provide lovely ambient lighting.
Downstairs is where the action is! Take the elevator ride down and emerge in the play space! A large bar dominates the entry with sit-up bar stools, sink, granite counters, and more. Nearby is a four place game table, and the entry into the grand theater. Overstuffed reclining seating for 12 faces a 5’X8’ projection screen. The logical controller handles all functions with ease. A homemade popcorn center fills the room with aromas, and the sub-woofer system fills each individual seat with action. Just outside the theater area is another casual room with the usable futon.
The sun is dipping quickly and the mountains are changing hues, time to fire up the blender and get some Margaritas going. Chilled glasses, salted rims, a floater of Grand Marnier, a lime, and another spectacular sunset, and good friends or family. This is the stuff memories are made of!
