We had an amazing stay at Misty Ridge Escape. My husband, two children and I decided to spend a week in the mountains to relax and refuel this summer. The kids had a blast playing basketball and exploring the property and we really enjoyed the jacuzzi and the pool table. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. There are two televisions in the cabin but we did not even make use of them. The only problem we encountered during our stay was a few missing pieces in the board games that were provided but the kids were so busy during the day they barely noticed. We were just a couple of miles from Anna Ruby falls, 10 minutes from Helen and about an hour from Blairesville. I recommend eating at Ain't B's during your stay, the food is great, the prices are reasonable and it's just a mile or two from the cabin. If you are looking for some great family fun, I suggest tubing on the "Hooch." We enjoyed tubing so much that we went again a second day! We also enjoyed hiking and checking out numerous local waterfalls.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are happy to hear that you had such a wonderful time at Misty Ridge Esacpe. This is always our goal. There is always a lot to do at Misty Ridge Escape, both inside and outside. Thanks for the tip regarding the missing board game pieces. We are in the process of replacing those games.

Our party of 7 had an "excellent" weekend in the property and discussed making it an annual event; however, learned this week deductions were coming from the Security/Damage Deposit for: *broken vertical blind slats - numerous of which were broken/missing upon arrival, and, * replacing a light bulb in the unprotected light fixture (no wire grid cover to protect) in the basketball court It's my opinion these items are normal wear and tear for a rental unit. The total deduction for "damages" was less that $25 but it's the principle that made it an "average" experience. I can't control the return of the security/damage deposit but I can control whether I rent the property again.Owner response: I am very happy that our guests had such an excellent experience while at Misty Ridge Escape. This is always our goal. The use of funds from the security/damage deposit is a very rare occasion. As in all cases, the cabin was inspected by a professional both before and after the rental. We will very occasionally see 1 or 2 blind vanes end up broken, especially at the beginning of the track which is opened (pulled back). That is normal wear and tear and it will sometimes happen, especially if the vanes are not first opened before the blinds are pulled back (as instructed). Sorry, but 5 broken vanes is not normal wear and tear. Also, renters are responsible for light bulb breakage, even if it is an accident. The light for the basketball court is well away from the goal and there is no problem avoiding it.

My family and I had a great time here. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and just enjoy the family. The place was a perfect size for the 6 of us and the kids enjoyed the game room and basketball court. My husband was a little upset that there was no ESPN or other sports channels considering all the bowl games going on, but we watched lots of movies and played lots of board games. Anna Ruby Falls is not far down the road, a beautiful place to visit. We were visited every day by the neighbor's dog, Bear, as someone else mentioned in their review. He was so sweet and the kids loved having him around. He stayed with us during our hotdog and smores campfire and took walks with us down the road. The only downside with coming in the winter: the downstairs was cold and did not have it's own temperature control...HOWEVER, I am sure it is perfect down there for the hotter months.Did you find this review helpful? Stayed 5 days at this mountain home and plan to return, maybe in the Fall. This place is perfect for families. We ranged in age from 2 to 60 and everything in between and everyone loved the place. The indoor basketball and outdoor hot tub were the favorites. We played a lot of pool, but the table is warped and all the balls roll ti the sides...but seriously, that is the ONLY complaint I heard from anyone in 5 whole days! The owners are very easy to work with and communicate with you throughout the planning process...and after. Highly recommend this house for a weekend or week's getaway!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: A brand new Pool Table has been installed as of November, 2012.

This was a wonderful home. We had a ball. Literally. The indoor basketball court was way more fun than I thought it would be. We enjoyed the firepit and sitting out at night. Helen and Unicoi were 10 minutes away. We went ziplining and horseback riding which was about 15 minutes away. Make sure if you go to visit Aint B's for their famous cinnamon roll do it on any day other than Monday as they are closed. If you take a small car stay to the left coming in as there are two car swallowing holes. Once you get past those you are good to go.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a fantastic time at Misty Ridge Escape. My husband, 3 kids and I decided to spend a week in the mountains to relax and enjoy the Mountain Laurels, Flame Azalias, etc. We were not disappointed. They surround the cabin and it is breathtaking. The cabin is very clean and well maintained. We had plenty of room for all activities. There is a video player for each of 2 TVs in both the living room and game room. The boys had a great experinece playing basketball INSIDE while it was raining outside. The ultimate game room is fantastic --- my husband and I played ping pong with the kids and also by ourselves while the boys played basketball. We also loved the hot tub. We were just a couple of miles from Anna Ruby falls and spent one afternoon there. It is only 10 minutes to Helen, so we went there frequently to enjoy the shops and the atmosphere. I would recommend this cabin to any family or group with or without children. If the rating scale were higher, I would give it 6 stars!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Possibly poor timing on our part.We arrived on 4/3/12 at 4:30 pm - as checkin is not until 4:00 pm for Spring Break with our children.During our hour and half trip to the cabin we encountered a thunderstorm yet when we reached the cabin it was all sunshine. At 9 pm, the children (we have 3) attempted to take showers but we had no water.Apparently the "storm" caused a breaker to flip in the pump house and in order to get it switched back on, one must call the "landlord" or local water company - even though it is well water. We did both and finally had water about 10 pm and hot water by 10:30 pm.And since we called the water company ourselves and spoke to them, we know first hand this happens frequently with storms. So, in my opinion, this should have been checked first thing after the storm and before we arrived or shortly there after. There is no excuse and it was huge inconvenience with children who were tired and needed baths. Also upon arrival we noticed the hot tub was merely warm.We gave that a pass the first night as everything else was blamed on the "storm".But on the second day/night it was no warmer. Upon calling the "landlord" again, he called the spa company and they apparently came the NEXT day while we were out fishing with the kids. The hot tub "supposedly" needed a part in order to work properly and we were scheduled to checkout the next day. After finding this out, we left that night at 7:30 pm and headed home - at least there we had reliable water and our own spa.So to sum things up, no water until late on the night of our arrival, no hot water until even later that night and no hot tub at all while we were there. Also, the "landlord/caretaker" is basically a middleman for everything. He never actually showed-up or acted concerned in regards to any of our calls. He was like "Oz" behind the curtain, just getting paid to take messages and make calls to the appropriate people. In the contract it clearly states NO refunds will be given for anything pertaining the cabin not working or not working properly. As a business owner, I believe this is a horrible way to treat customers who were paying a great deal of $ for 3 nights(& ending up leaving on the last night)Clearly the owner is trying to make money on this property while living in Arizona - as he NEVER tried to make things right, only excuses were given. We could have and should have took our money and went to the beach (like the kids wanted)instead of promising them a good time at Misty RidgeOwner response: There is no landlord, there is a caretaker. There was a thunderstorm and the renters indicated that there had been a direct lightning hit near the cabin. The lightning apparently disabled the water pump (not sure what damage was done). The water pump and well are owned by a private water company, so we called the company for repair. The water company had the water system up and running within an hour and a half after the renter had notified us of the loss of pressure. The hot tub was slightly damaged by the lightning strike. It was working again within 24 hours of the reported malfunction. Prior to that it appears the renters had been using it. We have a great deal of confidence in our professional team and believe their reponse to this situation was made in a professional and timely manner within a reasonable period of time.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Our names are Terry and Kathi Torzala. We have been married for over 40 years and currently live in Tucson, Arizona. Terry is a consulting biomedical engineer for medical device manufacturers and Kathi is a human resource consultant and career coach. We enjoy our trips back to Georgia to visit all our friends in Helen and in Atlanta. We enjoy relaxing and escaping in our cabin, Misty Ridge Escape.
Why the Owner Chose Helen:
We moved to Marietta, Georgia, a northern suburb of Atlanta, about 30 years ago. At the time we definitely knew we were moving into a beautiful area of the country. Each of the seasons in north Georgia exhibit a special beauty.
However, nothing prepared us for the spectacular beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Helen, Georgia, only about 74 miles north of our home. During our first trip to Helen, we were highly impressed with the natural beauty of the Chattahoochee River (which runs right through downtown Helen), Unicoi State Park and Anna Ruby Falls (both only a few miles away) and, of course, Mount Yonah (the highest mountain peak near Helen). Subsequent visits demonstrated to us how intense the seasons are in Helen.
Springs are punctuated with the natural beauty of rhododendron, wild azaleas and dogwoods, to mention only a few flowering plants. The summers yield more natural beauty all around with temperatures considerably cooler than Atlanta. Opportunities for many and varied activities abound. The intense colors of fall rival and, many times, exceed the fall color of New England. Winters provide quiet relaxation and an occasional light snowfall frosts the mountains on a par with a Currier and Ives setting.
We fell in love with the Helen area and began going there often. Ultimately, we purchased Misty Ridge Escape, where we seek a change-of-pace and an escape from the stresses of everyday life.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
What don’t we enjoy about escaping at Misty Ridge Escape? We have plenty of amenities in the cabin. The romantic loft bedroom master suite offers us privacy in a beautiful setting with our own private balcony to look out at the mountains. The Wi-Fi Internet system allows us to communicate with our friends and tell them about all the great fun we are having in Helen. We have a game room that offers an escape even when it rains, including an indoor basketball court, ping pong, pool table, card table and some classic board games. In the evening, to relax, we jump into the hot tub and enjoy its warm waters. If we want to stay in, our kitchen offers all the appliances and cooking tools we need to prepare a dinner for all our friends or enjoy a romantic dinner for two. The additional table and chairs on our outdoor deck allow us to commune with nature. We can listen to the birds in the morning, evening and at night. Sometimes, we see some deer or turkeys or other friends from the local fauna population.
When it is time for a change-of-pace, we hike on the many miles of trails in Unicoi State Park or push out from Helen on a tubing or kayaking adventure on the Chattahoochee River. Between Helen and Unicoi State Park, there are many adventures to be explored, along with the many other national forests and state parks available close by. Later we can visit some of the quant and unique shops in downtown Helen to purchase that perfect item to add to our home décor, a bottle of local wine, crafts or pottery.
Helen also offers many top notch restaurants with a variety of menus for breakfast, lunch or dinner to satisfy any palate. You can sit outside along the Chattahoochee River and enjoy the relaxing sound of the water as you dine or seek a quiet corner inside a romantic restaurant.
There is virtually no limit to the fun that you can have in Misty Ridge Escape and in Helen.
