Mountain High is an ideal mountain cabin in Summer, Winter and all year.
July through mid August is our busiest time of year for lodging and typically fills up with 5+ night stays. We ask for a four night minimum during this time. Two and three night stays may be taken at the last minute (within 7 to 10 days) or when a two or three night window is created by consecutive bookings. Thank you for understanding.
The sleepy town of Garfield is home to mountain cabins and chalets for those wanting to vacation in the high country. At Mountain High you're situated just five minutes from the all natural powder of Monarch Mountain and 18 minutes from the charming shops, restaurants and galleries in historic downtown Salida. World class mountain biking on the Crest Trail and miles of cross country ski and hiking trails are minutes away. Add the Salida Hot Springs Pool and Salida's public nine-hole golf course surrounded by the awesome sight of 14 thousand foot peaks and you've got a vacation to remember!
Walk to Monarch Lodge for cocktails or a good meal and soak in the lodge hot tub for $4/day - towels included!
While the original front of the cabin has a quaint neighborly feel, the large addition in the back offers a wall of windows opening to a large deck and vast views of the creek and mountains. The inside is a pleasant surprise of open, bright living space and big open views. ***Mountain High offers two bedrooms, one with a Queen and one with a full size bed. There is a sofabed in the great room. Gather 'round the wood fire and flat screen TV with views all around you. The fully equipped kitchen is a bright roomy space for preparing meals while you gaze at the mountains beyond. There is a large dining table for the group. Bring charcoal & lighter fluid for the grill.
All vacation homes in the Pinon collection are 'vacation ready' with a fully appointed kitchen, towels and linens. Hand, dish and shower soap are provided as well as tp, trash bags and coffee filters. Bring your own laundry detergent, napkins and toiletries.
Three night minimum is preferred, however, two nights may be available upon approval with a $20 cleaning fee. Two night stays will not be scheduled over two weeks in advance during High Season and Holidays. Owners reserve the right to accept or refuse three night stays during High Season and Holidays. Rates are based on 4 person occupancy. Add $10/night per person over 4 people. Extended stay rates are available subject to owner use and availability. Please read rental policies (tab at bottom of page). One well behaved dog is welcome for a fee $10/nt.
$45 applies towards the cleaning cost and covers accidental damage protection up to $1500. For stays of less than 3 nights, the other half of the cleaning fee will be charged ($20). Visa or Master Card accepted. Cash or Check receives a 2.9% discount.
Rental agreements must be signed and returned by email or mail at time of reservation. Reservations made more than 6 months in advance must pay in full 60 days prior to check in.
Cancellation Policy- Cancellations made less than 60 days from check in date will be refunded if the reservation can be rebooked. You may wish to purchase vacation insurance.

We recently stayed at this cozy little cabin, & everything was just as it showed in the pictures & more! We skied monarch for three days & it was great coming back to the cabin every night. It was well stocked, with beautiful views & a cozy fireplace. It was the first time we had ever rented a cabin & it was a great experience, we plan on doing it every year!!! The only problem we had was getting our car up to it, but we did manage it, although it was kind of a pain. I would definitely love to stay here again & would recommend to anyone looking for a great getaway!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for your nice comments! We do have someone right next door to remove snow when needed. Good tires are definitely important in winter! Lawton (property manager)
