COTTAGE SITS ON A DUNE on a stretch of private beach with only private homes stretching along the ocean for miles. There is NO PUBLIC ACCESS. Topsail is known for exceptionally clean warm water, mild/moderate waves,sandy bottom & clean white sand.
The cottage is furnished in colorful Bahamas Island style. It is exceptionally CLEAN, WELL KEPT, SMOKE & PET FREE home.
PEAK June - Aug. During summer season the cottage sleeps 10 to 12 in 5 private bedrooms.
OFF SEASON:Nov - May. Can rent as 3 bedroom home (without additional guest apt quarters which remains closed) This offers a very affordable option for small families, or a couple or two.
(Guest apt can be added to main home rental for additional $250.

Even more wonderful than I imagined!! Last week proved to be the most enjoyable vacation I have ever been blessed to experience. Your place is not only comfortable, convenient, and pretty, but has a warm, "at home" atmosphere that made every moment special. My favorite room was the big screened porch. Our granddaughters could play at the shore, and we could keep our eyes on them in comfort & peace of mind. It was absolutely grand!! We also enjoyed cooking our meals with the great ocean view. I thanked the Lord every day for allowing us to be there!
Just wanted to say thanks again, the house was beautiful, and so was the town.
Kids cried when we left which was sad but let us know how much fun they really had.

"YOU WON'T BE SORRY YOU BOOKED THIS PLACE!" "Our experience in this home was excellent! It is well cared for & just what we expected from the website. The owners were so easy to deal with that they felt like family. I hope to know them for the rest of my life! They told me what to pack, gave me ideas of things to do and places to eat, and perfect directions. At the house there were packets with restaurant menus (personal notes were written on them as to what is good to order, etc) and points of interest. The screened in porch was a blessing the one day it rained, because we ate our meals out there and played games, but still felt outdoors and near to the ocean. We took our other breakfasts and lunches on the deck picnic table which was awesome. While we were there, we had the beach to ourselves 95% of the time. There were so many shells that we were able to be super picky about which ones we chose (bring a bucket, you'll need it). Evenings were great because even though it was dark and you couldn't see the ocean, you could hear it. You really will not be disappointed.

Your house was a wonderful relaxed family oriented place to watch the dolphins play as the sun rose. Sitting out was a great way to begin and end the day, watching the ocean roll in and out. There were turtle nesting areas up and down the beach , the fish were jumping, the pelicans and all the other seabirds swooping down for a stroll along the surf. What more could anyone want!

The Unique Benefits at this House
First is the unique renewing & de-stressing nature of being so close to the sea. Our home is pushed forward on the beach- ahead of our neighbors, and with the unobstructed view and closeness you feel as though the ocean is your constant companion and that the everyday world is far, far away. The sound of the waves is ever present and becomes your own rhythm.
We have one of the only screened porches around. We love it for the shade in the day, giving our grandkids and elderly family some nice shade with terrific side & front views of the beach and of the sea. At night you can sit there without bugs bothering you and watch the sea and the stars which seem so close you feel you can touch them. Sometimes particularly at full moon, it is as bright as day on the beach and you can see on the ocean clear to the horizon all lit up. Incredible!
The other unique and special part of the house is the separate guest apartment.It has a living/entertainment room, as well as two bedrooms and bath and an additional kitchen. We and our guests have loved the arrangement. It offers additional privacy if some folks want to keep their own schedule, make their own breakfast/meal or snack, want to watch something different on TV, play different games etc. It is perfect for a second family/friends or just those early to bed grandparents,or just folks like me who like to sleep till noon on vacation!!
We have a great view of the beach and have seen sea turtles laying nests and feel like the dolphins & pelicans are close enough to touch. We love having a short boardwalk and few steps and stepping right on to the beach. It makes it easy to see our grandkids playing on the beach only a few short steps away.
Lastly this is the cleanest beach I have ever been on. White soft clean sand that goes right into the water. Exceptionally clean water too with no debri, tar or stones. Nice shallows for the little tikes and nice moderate waves for the older ones to body board.

We have loved our home and so enjoyed the many guests who have come over the years. At first we lived full time in the main home and rented the guest apt. I watched some of our guest's children grow from tikes to teens! We have enjoyed honeymooners -who then return to show off their offspring years later--and have made many friends with our regular repeating guests coming to see us or enjoy a birthday or anniversary. A few years ago we had to move to care for an elderly parent & be near our only grandchildren. We are now retired and rely on our home for income. We now rent the entire home in summer and can split off the overflow apt in off season to keep the price very affordable for couples/small families. We make a real effort to keep our prices much lower than homes the same size so we can enable regular folks, like us, to have a private oceanfront home experience. We really pride ourselves on making the experience special as well as affordable. We have dear friends who care for the home-cleaning and handy work and being right there everything is cared for and done quickly if needed which gives us great peace of mine.
Our place is much more than a cookie cutter beach house. Our guests say it feels like home immediately. It is very comfortable & easy to live in, decorated in my take on Bahamas Breezy style & filled with lots of extra personal touches including the handmade gifts folks leave us. Our dear guests say the walls of our home seem to emanate all the happy memories and reunions held there by us and our guests. We miss living there year round & the wonderful sights & sound of the sea & beach. But we can count on our guests to enjoy it for us! :)

Our stay was excellent. The house was clean and exactly what we were looking for. The beach was quiet and we were able to walk it everyday and collect shells. The island itself is a treasure!

We had an excellent experience here. The owner gave wonderful information about the home and activities. The area shop owners and restaurant staff were very hospitable. Everything I needed to cook for my family was available in the kitchen. We enjoyed just hanging out around the house. We also made good use of all the beach toys - kites, body boards, horse shoes, sand toys, etc... Leaving the first foot prints in the sand on my morning walk is one of my favorite memories. The dolphins put on a show every day for us. We all found treasures of shells and shark teeth. The sun rises and sun sets are amazing. Wish we could have stayed longer.

This was our second stay at "A Beach Escape." My family stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and fell in love with the beauty of the home and Topsail Beach. The other reviews are exactly right -- this house is a jewel! We quickly booked a follow-up stay in January! The house is absolutely immaculate. It is obvious that MaryAnn makes a priority of maintaining the property! A cozy living room, spacious kitchen with all the essential diningware, pots and pans, etc., and comfy bedrooms make you feel right at home. The oceanfront bedroom is particularly wonderful as you can hear the ocean waves while you drift off to sleep! We rose early each morning to sit on the porch, sip our coffee and take in the beautiful sunrise. Oftentimes, we were able to see dolphins swimming along the waves. We spent our afternoons walking along the shore, searching for sharks' teeth. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, a girls' weekend, or a family vacation, this house is perfect! I would recommend A Beach Escape to all my friends and relatives (in fact, I have.).

This cottage was perfect for our family vacation! The description is spot-on and you feel comfortable instantly upon entering. The property was well kept and had a nice lived-in feeling. The owners are so very thorough and the customer service they provide is above and beyond anything you would expect. We were caught in the tail-end of the tornadoes that ravaged the South, and the owners called to check on us and even offer the lower apartment for us to go into if the situation got more urgent (thankfully, we were spared and just got great pictures out of it). Being on the beach was wonderful with two small children and the few people we saw were so friendly! The area is beautiful and the wait staff and service at every restaurant is phenomenal! I recommend Daddy Mac's for a culinary twist and impeccable experience and The New York Corner Deli for very reasonably priced and delicious deli fare with a great staff (and excellent gelato). The baked goods at Just Baked are mouth-watering and better than Grandma makes. There is an IGA market just down from the house that is a bit higher than Food Lion, but very convenient and easy to walk to. Be prepared to become addicted to hunting shark teeth and combing the beach for gorgeous shells to take home. I can't say enough good things about this home or the experience but go ahead and book it! You won't regret it at all and I would definitely recommend it to any one of my friends and family...and can't wait to return!

When I was looking for a place to stay at the beach I had a few things I "had" to have--those things were; oceanfront deck clean close to restaurants and attactions "The Beach Escape" was the answer to everything I wanted. As a matter of fact last year (2008) we rented the entire home (my husband and I usually just rent the downstairs) what fun we had!!! Lots of room and the huge glass window was perfect for my 92 year old mother to view the ocean and not have to deal with the sand or wind.Plus the screened porch was great for mornning coffee and watching the sun come up or go down. I have caught some very big fish in the surf and have loved every minute that I get to "escape" at Topsail Beach--For us there is not better place than the Beach Escape. Frequent visitors (I"ll be there every chance I get) Pam and Steve

There is a local seafood market just down the road that sells fresh local seafood, OH MY, was that delicious, and reasonably priced too. Eating out was a different treat every time. Every restaurant we went to was supurb with friendly wait staff. Our favorite was Sears Landing, we went there twice. The IGA has everything you need, but if you can't find what you're looking for, there is a Food Lion just over the bridge. There are enough, but not too many stores to do gift shopping, you won't be disappointed. I can't speak to in-season visits, but while we were there, we had the beach to ourselves 95% of the time. There were so many shells that we were able to be super picky about which ones we chose (bring a bucket, you'll need it). Evenings were great because even though it was dark and you couldn't see the ocean, you could hear it. It's a day trip away from Wilmingon, NC, - Cape Lookout Lighthouse, NC - Myrtle Beach, SC.(we drove down there and went horseback riding on the beach). I really could go on, but I'm developing carpel tunnel. You really will not be disappointed. Have fun and THINK BEACH!
