Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 5)
This home is a very special place in San Miguel, and we are pleased to share it with you.
From the moment you step through the gate into the entry courtyard, you will feel the graciousness of well-tended gardens and well-planned spaces. A 2,800 sq. ft. Spanish colonial-style home, it was built by a master builder in 2006 with the greatest attention to architectural details: a handkerchief boveda ceiling in the entry, custom colonial ironwork throughout, a beamed ceiling in the Living Room, high ceilings and crown moldings throughout, inlaid stone floors in the entry and kitchen, specialty tile work in the bathrooms and kitchen. All rooms, with the exception of one bedroom open onto at least one courtyard through beautiful French doors.
You have the conveniences of a new home - with light switches that work, modern plumbing, and a whole-house water purification system - combined with the feel of a beautiful traditional home that feels like it has always been waiting for you.

Why the Owner Chose Centro HistoricoWe fell in love with this street, Callejon Blanco, on an earlier visit to San Miguel. A one-way, quiet lane arched by bougainvillea, it seems miles away from the traffic of taxis and buses although it is in the Centro Historico within a few easy blocks of El Jardin and the Parroquia. On our next visit a chance meeting with a realtor (Wesley Gleason at Agave Realty) led to visiting several houses, "just to see what the market conditions are." After a few hours, we excused ourselves to go off for dinner with friends. Our realtor looked crestfallen and said, "Oh dear, I have just one more house to show you, and it's on a little street called Callejon Blanco." Of course, we postponed dinner and went to see the house in our dream location. We walked in, gasped with delight, and bought the house the next day. We named it "Casa Bendita" - the Blessed House - from the sense of the many blessings which led us to this home. The house is very special, but the location is equally special. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else in San Miguel.
The Unique Benefits at this HouseNearby pleasures are almost too numerous to list! Great food, delightful music, a fine bookshop, and daily festivals are close-at-hand. We love to stop in at Petit Four on Mesones across from the theater for capuccino and fruit tarts. If we decide to cook at home, we head off to the Mercado Ignacio Ramirez where, beyond the beautiful booths of fruit and flowers, is an area where the women from the country sell whatever they can bring on the bus - fresh ranchero cheese, nopale cactus, poblano chiles, and enormous bunches of herbs from their own gardens. It's always inspiring to take a cooking class (last time it was Mole!) from Paco at Sazon Cooking School, but there are classes of every sort within a few blocks: cooking, writing, art, salsa dancing, drumming. Casa Bendita is only two blocks from the world-famous Warren Hardy language school and minutes away from other language schools. There is a yoga and meditation studio just four doors up the street. There's even a wine shop with a friendly owner at the end of the block. Best of all are the discoveries our guests make and leave in the guestbook to share with us, and with the guests who follow them.
Owner's Map of Centro Historico
From our first visit many years ago, San Miguel welcomed us with its countless charms. Then, in 2008, we found an equally welcoming and charming house there. This is it! We have traveled all over the world, but this house is truly special. And to find such a place in an historic town with artists, musicians, academicians, readers and writers, language schools, and an active volunteer community is still almost beyond our imaginations. Our home in San Miguel is the antidote to our complicated lives back home in Mill Valley – Don with his estate planning, life, and long term care insurance business, and Collette with her event production company. We keep close at hand our memories of waking up and listening to the birds sing, or standing on the roof terrace at sunset, glass of wine in hand, scanning the hills and sky. Though we return as frequently as our businesses allow, we are happy to offer this delightful house for your pleasure during the many weeks and months when we are back at our desks.

This was one of the best vacations we have taken. Casa Bendita is gorgeous and very comfortable. The location is superb, allowing lots of excursions by foot. We loved exploring this beautiful and friendly city and adored coming "home" to enjoy an evening drink by the fireplace. Owners were extremely helpful and arranged transportation to and from the airport and for outings outside of town. One of the highlights was a cooking class with Paco Cardenas which I would highly recommend. This is a wonderful property and a terrific place for shipping, eating, exploring, and relaxing. I hope to visit again.

Not only were the accomodations and location superb, but the owners have included a ton of information about how they best enjoy San Miguel. From restaurants to art recommendations/suggestions, we were able to avoid a lot of research and start to enjoy this wonderful spot immediately. Because of its centro location we were easily able to walk back home for rest, reading, snacking, or relaxing on the roof garden between adventures. Clara and Jose, the cleaning person and gardener who come every other day, were very accomodating with any questions we might have about the property or San Miguel. As with all of the locals we met, they are very proud of their city and its heritage and were more than willing to share it with us. Whether we wanted to be out-and-on-the-go or in and relaxing, this was a great place to spend time in a truly enchanting and unique part of Mexico.

House was luxurious, meticulously furnished and well cared for. Description and photos are very accurate. The owners were very helpful in answering all my questions and their house manager arranged for my transportation to and from the airport. Additionally, he was available to help me with any questions I may have had. The owners and the manager were very nice, honest people. I cannot wait to return as I loved the house and its views and San Miguel.

Casa Bendita is like no other vacation rental you've experienced. The home is stunning, the online pictures here barely do it justice. Besides its beauty and classic elegant design, the home is comfortable and everything "works". SMA is a great town for exploring, wandering, and relaxing...and Casa Bendita is the perfect base from which to do all those things. Thank you, Collette, for everything. Elaine and Rick

What a wonderful surprise! Having discovered your house on VRBO, I wasn't quite sure that it would be as described. OMG! This house is stunning, as others before me have described. San Miguel is one of the most enchanting towns I have ever visited, & I look forward to returning again next year.

This month of March in SMA was a return visit for us, and we were delighted to stay in this wonderful house. It is kept perfect by the loving care of Clara, the housekeeper, and by Jose, the excellent gardener. They are very helpful, by the way, in letting you practice your Spanish. The Warren Hardy Spanish School is only 2-3 minutes away. Vive Mexico & Vive Casa Bendita! (copied from the Guest Book at Casa Bendita)

This house gave the wonderful experience of floating above the town sitting up on the roof terrace. Never tired of sunsets or morning sounds of San Miguel waking up. Roaming all three of the markets was especially fun with great discoveries. Just a taste of life here. Looking forward to more. (copied from the Guest Book at Casa Bendita)
