This home is a very special place in San Miguel, and we are pleased to share it with you.

From the moment you step through the gate into the entry courtyard, you will feel the graciousness of well-tended gardens and well-planned spaces. A 2,800 sq. ft. Spanish colonial-style home, it was built by a master builder in 2006 with the greatest attention to architectural details: a handkerchief boveda ceiling in the entry, custom colonial ironwork throughout, a beamed ceiling in the Living Room, high ceilings and crown moldings throughout, inlaid stone floors in the entry and kitchen, specialty tile work in the bathrooms and kitchen. All rooms, with the exception of one bedroom open onto at least one courtyard through beautiful French doors.

You have the conveniences of a new home - with light switches that work, modern plumbing, and a whole-house water purification system - combined with the feel of a beautiful traditional home that feels like it has always been waiting for you.

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico

We fell in love with this street, Callejon Blanco, on an earlier visit to San Miguel. A one-way, quiet lane arched by bougainvillea, it seems miles away from the traffic of taxis and buses although it is in the Centro Historico within a few easy blocks of El Jardin and the Parroquia. On our next visit a chance meeting with a realtor (Wesley Gleason at Agave Realty) led to visiting several houses, "just to see what the market conditions are." After a few hours, we excused ourselves to go off for dinner with friends. Our realtor looked crestfallen and said, "Oh dear, I have just one more house to show you, and it's on a little street called Callejon Blanco." Of course, we postponed dinner and went to see the house in our dream location. We walked in, gasped with delight, and bought the house the next day. We named it "Casa Bendita" - the Blessed House - from the sense of the many blessings which led us to this home. The house is very special, but the location is equally special. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else in San Miguel.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Nearby pleasures are almost too numerous to list! Great food, delightful music, a fine bookshop, and daily festivals are close-at-hand. We love to stop in at Petit Four on Mesones across from the theater for capuccino and fruit tarts. If we decide to cook at home, we head off to the Mercado Ignacio Ramirez where, beyond the beautiful booths of fruit and flowers, is an area where the women from the country sell whatever they can bring on the bus - fresh ranchero cheese, nopale cactus, poblano chiles, and enormous bunches of herbs from their own gardens. It's always inspiring to take a cooking class (last time it was Mole!) from Paco at Sazon Cooking School, but there are classes of every sort within a few blocks: cooking, writing, art, salsa dancing, drumming. Casa Bendita is only two blocks from the world-famous Warren Hardy language school and minutes away from other language schools. There is a yoga and meditation studio just four doors up the street. There's even a wine shop with a friendly owner at the end of the block. Best of all are the discoveries our guests make and leave in the guestbook to share with us, and with the guests who follow them.

Owner's Map of Centro Historico

From our first visit many years ago, San Miguel welcomed us with its countless charms. Then, in 2008, we found an equally welcoming and charming house there. This is it! We have traveled all over the world, but this house is truly special. And to find such a place in an historic town with artists, musicians, academicians, readers and writers, language schools, and an active volunteer community is still almost beyond our imaginations.

Our home in San Miguel is the antidote to our complicated lives back home in Mill Valley – Don with his estate planning, life, and long term care insurance business, and Collette with her event production company. We keep close at hand our memories of waking up and listening to the birds sing, or standing on the roof terrace at sunset, glass of wine in hand, scanning the hills and sky. Though we return as frequently as our businesses allow, we are happy to offer this delightful house for your pleasure during the many weeks and months when we are back at our desks.

    • Walking through the narrow front door entrance in no way prepares you for the tranquil beauty of the home you are about to enter. It makes for a perfect experience of San Miguel. The location is great. It makes it so nice to walk to the jardin and beyond, and yet be able to come HOME. We have stayed in a lovely hotel before, but to have such a comfortable, and well cared for home to come back to makes the experience feel like you live there. We highly recommend Casa Bendita.

    • We had the distinct pleasure of living in this wonderful house for one month this summer. The one word which comes to mind is "perfect". The location is perfect. The house and its amenities are perfect. The staff is perfect. And working with the owners has been a great experience. Whenever we are able to return to this wonderful city, we will look to see if Casa Bendita is available and cannot see staying anywhere else.

    • We ventured to San Miguel for my sister's storybook wedding at Casa Schuck, but soon realized that the wedding wasn't the conclusion of the fairy tale...after the wedding, my mother, aunt and I chose Casa Bendita to be our refuge for another week of vacation. Needless to say, it was more than a refuge, more like the lap of luxury! Perfectly located close to town, yet on a quiet and beautiful street, your home allowed us privacy and the opportunity to explore the many fabulous vignettes of San Miguel. Thank you for exceeding our expectations and allowing us the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful home we could call "ours" during our stay.

What a wonderful time we had in San Miguel! We loved the house and of course the city. Everything was perfect during our stay. Thank you so much for opening your home to us; our trip wouldn't have been the same had we stayed anywhere else!

    • We had a wonderful time in San Miguel de Allende and one of our greatest enjoyments was the stay at the beautiful Casa Bendita. The design and layout of this house are a joy in living, a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, and a most relaxing atmosphere. We were always enchanted to walk in the front door into the courtyard and feel at home. This house is a true gem!

    • This home was more than we could ever have dreamt of finding for a haven away in SMA -- soothing, accommodating, luxurious, beautifully thought-out, and fully equipped. We felt pampered, cared for, and eager to return each day to the delights of our serene inner surroundings, as well as the wonders that the rooftop terrace offered us, from which we were able to view the magnificent light of late afternoon and Tuscan colors of the city, and where we enjoyed in the early mornings the sounds of church bells, roosters, and experienced cooling and gentle winds. The house lives on in our memories with all of its finely crafted details -- and we immediately reserved it for the following year and for the same amount of time (2 weeks), only sad that it could not be longer.

    • Callejon Blanco, the most charming street in San Miguel is an appropriate prelude to the beautiful "Casa Bendita".We just returned from San Miguel two days ago, and cannot stop thinking about our time in the house, which suited every need. What impressed us was the quality of all the appointments. The house is exquisitely maintained, and always a refreshing home to come to at the end of the day. Some afternoons we spent on the beautiful terrace , reading , having a siesta, or just embracing the sounds of the village below. The terrace is a large enough space to do a Yoga or Pilates routine. Our cook loved the kitchen, and was able to create wonderful meals because of the variety of new appliances. I don't think there is another house that would offer the elegance and quality of living that Casa Bendita offered us.We also appreciated the proximity to the amenities of the town. We walked everywhere, which eliminated the need for a car. A real pleasure!!!

    • My husband and I stayed in this lovely and freshly remodeled home with all of our expectations exceeded. Besides having a perfect location (walking distance to the main square and plenty of cathedrals and shops) the home was splendid. Comfortable bed with luxurious baths, full dining room, balconies to die for with fountains and sitting areas, a 360 degree view of the city from the roof balcony (along with a laundry room up top). This is a glorious place to stay with a thumbs-up recommendation.
