Meets expectations in every way possible!

This riverside home is absolutely perfect! Our family of 8 had a wonderful “spring break” getaway here. This home is recommended for anyone, at any age, looking for some down time from the everyday stresses of the usual mundane routines. The elevator made arriving and departing a breeze. From the home, the Delaware River is located right across a small private gravel road (the cliffs across the river on the Jersey side are beautiful), having its own dock overlooking the water, a family “fire pit” patio, and with stairs leading down to a floating dock on the river where one can fish or access the water using a canoe or kayak the owner Joan so graciously shares. These are not the only amenities that Joan shares! The excellent service provided by Joan was very friendly and she made herself available for any needs we may have had (... which we had none). This service began with my initial contact of questions, through until we were safely home. She's a good communicator; exhibiting a blend of courtesy and professionalism wrapped with the right amount of personal touch (this personal touch was evident throughout the home too). Joan, many thanks for making us feel at home! As for the house itself, the HomeAway posting is accurate in every aspect. There is a lot of food in the house, which we were not expecting as we do bring our own when we perform such house rentals, but we just grouped that food together as we staged ours (there’s PLENTY of room in the refrigerator and cabinets). The kitchen is fully equipped which made life easy for the many meals we enjoyed on the deck, dining table and spacious kitchen island bar. If we had anything we’d need to communicate to other travelers, it was the unexpected welcoming by quite a few “stinkbugs.” These are harmless beetles, which, during the first 30 minutes after arriving all the kids ran around eliminating. They actually had fun doing this! I must state though that after we initially eliminated them, over the next two days of our stay, we found NO additional ones. And, Joan also supplies a vacuum with a special nozzle to eradicate these too. She thinks of everything. There were MANY upsides, including: Everything was very organized, clean and comfortable; there’s a spacious 2 car garage, all necessities were provided, the baths are very clean, the fireplaces cozy, there's plenty of firewood provided, several well maintained bicycles, and the list goes on and on. Thanks again! Regards, Mark and Donna

A perfect winter escape!

Guest: Margaret P. (Maplewood, New Jersey)
Date of Stay: 01/20/12 Review Submitted: 02/22/12

This is a beautiful home for a winter escape. We had such a great time here in August that we returned to celebrate an important birthday with our two grown children and their mates. There six of us found the house to be so ideal for a couples’ escape in the winter. The house is great for cooking, sipping wine and enjoying time with friends in front of the fireplace. The delight for us was a snowfall, making the walk along the towpath even more special. How beautiful to see flocks and flocks of geese landing on the Delaware River, right in front of our eyes. Walking along the tow path in the newly fallen snow was a new and wonderful experience! There are great places to eat not so far away, too! I think we could make this an annual thing – returning for someone’s birthday – even if it’s not a significant one.

Amazing home!

We spent our Christmas holiday in this wonderful house. It was myself, my 2 year old daughter and husband and two friends and their daughter. It was a incredible weekend. The house is great for entertaining because the kitchen opens into the living area. It's completely stocked with dishes and cookware. No real need to bring anything except yourself and some food. The owner even left us a bottle of wine as a welcome. The bedrooms are very nice. Everything is updated. The two car garage is even huge with bikes you can borrow. They have a elevator that takes you from the garage to the 2nd floor which has the kitchen and two bedrooms and then to the 3rd floor where the master suite is. We would stay here again. In fact we threatened to never leave. Thank you Joan for being so wonderful to us. Kim Shriver

Heaven on the Delaware

Every year I plan a retreat for my girlfriends who fly in From the UK, Montreal and Ohio. This year we were fortunate enough to rent Joan's home and I do mean HOME. This property is located on the beautiful Delaware River and is perfectly appointed. The gourmet kitchen is fully stocked and the appliances are state of the art. The bedrooms are warm and cozy, the perfect place to retreat after a full day of shopping. If I had known how wonderful this home was, I would have skipped staying a few days in Philadelphia and would have stayed exclusively at 'Joans'. We didn't have time to build a fire in the fire pit or to use the canoe. We did manage to enjoy the grill on the upper deck and have cocktails under the stars. Best of all, there is an elevator to transport your luggage to the upper floors! We all voted that if we were ever to return to Pennsylvania - this is where we would stay. Thank you Joan for making our vacation perfect!

Amazing multi-generational family home... away from home!

Guest: Abigail (Zurich, Switzerland)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/20/11

We have spent two weeks (end Sep - beg Oct) in this home. We live in Switzerland and are lucky to be used to high quality standard of living and equipment. We were looking for a place that would meet those standards in addition to being big enough for a family with a toddler, plus visiting relatives, from ages 3 months to 80 years old. We also wanted a location in a beautiful setting, where it was easy to take day trips to more buzzing locations such as NY or Philly - yet have the possibility of the house as a retreat. Well, this house MET ALL OUR EXPECTATIONS and MORE! First we were amazed at how well furnished it was - yet in this quiet location. Then we discovered the river - and the areas surrounding. Well in two weeks we never had a boring day! We had a wonderful time with family, cousins as well as grand-parents - coming from all over the world. This house is great for all, young or less young who wish to have a relaxing family time in a very comfortable home. The "home" feeling is very true and especially enhanced by the amazing care the owner takes of the place. It is really well suited to renters - all being very well organized "just look for what you need and it will probably be there" we were told - and it was true! Even the closets are totally emptied aside from the many hangers and luggage rack just waiting for the renters to use. The house is furnished in such a way that it feels like a home - but without the feeling of intruding in someone's place - just perfectly organized so that you can feel it is "your" home for the time you are renting. One last note for the kitchen and elevator: both beautiful (couldn't imagine an elevator being so nice) and practical. Your holiday there will certainly be effortless - as there is all to help you get organized really efficiently and enjoyably! Don't think twice before saying yes!

A super week!

Guest: Margaret P. (Maplewood, New Jersey)
Date of Stay: 08/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/25/11

We've just returned from spending a week at this marvelous house. Both my husband and I say this house is perfect in every way: the setting, the view of the Delaware, the location, the decor, the comfort. This was our annual family vacation which including our children and grandchildren. The Delaware River Tow Path is literally in the back yard and I really enjoyed long walks on the path - walking some 6 miles up and down with great views of the river. I also loved going out in a kayak on the river. Great places to eat in the area. I rarely end a vacation saying I wish I could stay longer. That's exactly how I felt. The owner is incredibly gracious in making certain we had all that we needed for our week. Being there you realize this is a home and not just a house.

You will not find a better rental on the River

Guest: Matt (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 05/27/11 Review Submitted: 06/06/11

Seriously, the Delaware River is 300 miles long, but if you hang out at any other spot you are simply asking for crowds and bug bites. This is one of the nicest houses I have ever been in, much less stayed at. You can see how clean and fancy it is from the pictures, so I'll focus on the other stuff. We came up from Maryland for the weekend and gathered up our NY/NJ/PA friends. Everyone found it to be an easy, mostly traffic free drive from all directions. You need to go to Ringing Rocks State Park (1 mile west) and bring a hammer. I won't spoil the really neat surprise. There are several bikes if you want to cruise up and down the canal towpath which is several miles long and just a few hundred feet away. We spotted a heron, 14 turtles, 4 ducks and a half dozen bullfrogs. The main reason I chose this place was that it sits directly on the river (seriously, the deck across the road is over the river). While the house did have a canoe, kayak and several tubes, we brought our own craft. We parked a car at the Musconetcong River mouth in Jersey and floated back to the house in ten tubes. It was an awesome and scenic 3 hour trip. You pass the Nockamixon Cliffs for about a third of the journey and we saw a bald eagle. Even on Memorial Day the water was refreshing, not bone-chilling. We went for a couple of swims too. If you bring a canoe or kayak, you can easily make a much bigger journey. Bull Island State Park is about ten miles downstream and could be made in just a few hours. Be warned however, that if you do rent this place your friends and family WILL expect you to do it every year from now on. Overall it's a great value, so I guess there is no harm there.

Just the perfect Getaway

I cannot recommend this house highly enough. My family was visiting from England and we were looking for a space to relax and unwind. Arriving at the house was just fantastic, my 6 year old neice announced "this is the best house ever" - and I am inclined to agree. Whether it was relaxing in a cozy armchair next to the fireplace or sitting out on the deck with a drink overlooking the river it was quite simply a perfect escape. The house itself is stunning, it just feels like home, and that is credit to Joan. The stores nearby in Milford are ideal for shopping and it is a short ride along the river to new hope. We loved it and everyone agreed we would love to come back. The only drawback to our visit was that we only had 2 nights. We are already looking forward to our next visit that we hope will be for longer. The access to the river and quiet location makes it an ideal family getaway. My last comment is about the house itself which is quite fantastic - the pictures simply cannot do it justice, not only is it spacious and beautifully presented but the views of the river are gorgeous, My brother in Law was lucky enough to watch the early morning sunrise and mist rise up above the river. What a relaxing and wonderful place. Thankyou Joan - we will be back! PS the firepit next to the river was also a massive hit with the family

This house could not have been more perfect. It is beautifully furnished. The kitchen is a foodie's dream. The view from the house/deck is lovely. While we had intended to go out for our meals, we ended up preparing most of our meals at the house because it was just so pleasant to be there. Our group of 4 ladies was on a hiking expedition. The house is ideally located just steps away from the Delaware Canal Tow Path, which provided for easy and scenic hikes. Our experience was heightened by arriving at just the right time to enjoy the colorful autumn leaves. We enjoyed a day in nearby New Hope and it was an easy trip to Philadelphia museums. The owner was most helpful in every way. She obviously cares very much about the comfort and satisfaction of her clientele.

Perfect Vacation

This house was perfect for our extended family get away. The kids were never bored and didn't even ask about a TV. Anything we could want was provided, from a fully stocked gormet kitchen to every type of equipment to enjoy the outdoors. We tubed, kyacked, biked, walked, fished, read, napped and ate to our hearts content. And the few times we did venture out, there are lots of choices of places to go. The owner has given such loving attention to detail, you felt you were staying in a five star resort.

Perfect for a multi-generational family get together

Guest: The twins (Virginia)
Date of Stay: 07/30/10 Review Submitted: 08/07/10

This house is perfect when getting together with family members who have varied interests and physical abilities. My 91 year old mother loved the elevator, and spent the time reading on the screened porch, having tea on the deck, and knitting on the deck down by the water - she could share in our swimming and boating without having to get out on the water. The rest of us split our time between mountain biking on the towpath, road biking on the beautiful roads, shopping in Miford just across the river, boating and swimming. We brought bikes and kayaks, but we didn't need to - the house has lots of bikes and a canoe and kayak. We cooked gourmet meals with wonderful produce from the local farmer's markets and then enjoyed the luxurious large kitchen for preparation. We never slept better - the beds are super comfortable, and each room has a bathroom. We'd come back in a heartbeat. The setting is also free of traffic thanks to the location off of the main highway. Our favorite time was sitting in the early morning down by the river with our morning tea or coffee. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home. We have been doing these family get-togethers for five years now, and everyone says this was the best.

We had a perfect vacation!

Date of Stay: 07/05/10 Review Submitted: 07/20/10

We had a great week at the river! First, the house is much bigger than it appears in pictures. Three generations of my family met here to celebrate my father's birthday and there was plenty of space for everyone. The difference between this house and others that we've stayed in is that this is obviously someone's second home versus an investment property. As such, it is not only decorated beautifully, but everything you could ever need can be found and is available for your use (whether it be a pen, a band-aid or a cake can...). The setting is beautiful. There is no TV reception at the house, but there was plenty to do to keep everyone entertained. There are several outdoor spaces where one can read or watch butterflies in the gardens. My children delighted in feeding the fish in Joan's fish pond. The spot on the river is quiet - there aren't any rapids in that immediate area so the kids were easily able to use the kayak and canoe. We also headed to the opposite shore where we swung from a rope into the river. Another great feature of the property is the easy access to a tow path. While walking along the path to the general store (which sells Hershey's ice cream and roasts its own coffee), we passed otters, momma ducks with their ducklings, turtles and TONS of dragon flies and butterflies. In the evenings we used the firepit to roast marshmallow and make s'mores... Joan was very easy to work with and I would absolutely return again!

We spent Fourth of July Weekend at the house and had a wonderful time. The house is absolutely beautiful with the most amazing kitchen! Joan, the owner, is wonderful and so lovely to deal with, she loves her home and it shows. It was a joy to be with my family in this house. We barbecued and swam in the river. Took the canoe out on the water and explored the towns nearby. I highly recommend checking it out. We cant wait to go back.

Perfect getaway!

Guest: Fantastic Family Reunion (Austin, TX)
Date of Stay: 05/17/10 Review Submitted: 06/01/10

We chose this location to be close to a family wedding. We were looking for a house large enough to accomodate family members reuniting, some for the first time in many years. Our first impression of the house was "Wow this is perfect" and it never changed the entire time. Starting with the massive organized garage, all the way up to the "penthouse" and the giant bathtub. The location turned out to be perfect for exercising, hanging out, reading, sightseeing, napping, cooking out on the patio and being close to nature. The elevator and elderly-friendly layout worked perfectly for the older guests. The overall layout provided plenty of places to gather, sit and talk as well as privacy for those who wanted it. Biking on the canal towards town led to the discovery of a quaint general store right along the path. Further down the path, Canadian Geese and their brand new goslings. There were several restuarants right across the river that turned out to be gems (Piplolo's and The Brew House). The business owners in town were so welcoming that first night, making sure we ate well and had plenty of supplies, even though it was closing time for them. The house is beautifully decorated and appointed, The location is perfect for a getaway that isnt too far away from "civilization". I would recommend this house for family reunions, week/weekend getaways and nature/sightseeing. And anyone looking for a place to reconnect with loved ones away from technology and other distractions. Joan was extremely pleasant to conduct business with and made sure we were made to feel welcome. We needed nothing other than our groceries, and couldn't think of anything to add to the experience. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you very much for a lovely place that created many memories for years to come!

Love! Love! Love this house!

The owners put a lot of love into this home and it shows! When we first arrived, we had no idea what a BEAUTIFUL home this house is! The owner is ultra helpful and easy to contact for questions. The best parts were the two-sided fire place and gourmet (fully equipped) kitchen! The elevator was also a great surprise- definitely a great added detail for those who are traveling with disabled loved ones ( or sleeping toddlers...like us). The view is so great and house is very quiet. We will definitely be back!
