It is a home on the Hoh river

Was it the Waldorf? No, but we weren't looking for the Waldorf. It was clean, well supplied, correctly promoted, what we expected. Met our needs. A lot cheaper than getting 3 hotel rooms in town for the 8 of us. Large kitchen with table for 8. Nice walk down to the river, easy access from highway. Included DISH network which was an added plus. Would use it again. Close to Hoh Rain forest, Ruby beach just 12 miles.

Owner response:Happy you enjoyed your time at the Hoh House and at Olympic National Park! Let us know if you want to visit the area again! Happy to host!

Friends and I stayed here for the weekend and had a great time! The house far exceeded our expectations! The yard was huge and perfect for croquet. We enjoyed grilling on the bbq and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. The location was ideal, 5 miles to ruby beach and close to many olympic hiking trails. I would absolutely stay here again!

Owner response:Glad you enjoyed your time on the Peninsula! Come back anytime for more Olympic fun!

Great time

We had a fantastic time at the Hoh House. The location for exploring this part of the penninsula is AMAZING. You are as close to the Hoh rainforest as you can get (20 miles from visitor center) without camping. You are also very close to Rialto Beach, Second Beach, Third Beach, Ruby Beach, La Push and Forks. This is a very isolated part of the penninsula but extremely beautiful, there are no nice hotels or million dollar rental homes. It is camping or the few motor inns or The Hoh House! The location of this place is perfect for exploring all of these places. The property is big, 3 acreas mostly cut grass. Great for kids to run around or to toss a ball or do whatever. Nice firepit behind the house. The house is right on the river but there is a steep bank to get down to it. There is a trail but it is steep. House had everything you need, pots, pans, utensils... It is basic stuff that all worked fine. A little short on cups, I told owner and they were very responsive and at least told me they plan on taking care of it. Other guests have left behind things like salt and pepper, spices... The house is a manufactured home not a full brick and mortar house. We had no problem with that. The area it is in is remote (that is what makes it so great). This isn't the hood canal were you will find million dollar homes. We had 6 adults, 2 infants and 1 small dog. Plenty of room for all of us. We were out hiking and exploring all day so we didn't sit around but still plenty of room. The house was clean, good linens, comfortable bed... We had a great time and would recommend the place to friends. Plenty of room to park your boat or for that matter boats if you trailer them out there with you. Plenty of launches near by. Bring camping chairs for the fire pit or to chill outside. There are a couple of adirondack chairs on the front porch but nothing out back. If you forget anything there is a large Thriftway and Ace 12 miles away in Forks.

Owner response:Glad you had such a great time! The Olympic peninsula is a special place and it sounds like you made the most of your stay! Maybe you can make it back another time to explore even more!

Great time @ The House

We had a great time @ the house. Would not want to camp on the river because of all the rain in a rain forest, and it rained. Way cozier @ the house. Very clean. Great kitchen with everything you need. The nearby town did not have a lot of dining options so it was great to cook @ home.

Owner response:Glad your time was well spent and comfortable! Hope you can get back again as you indicated by telephone to see everything you missed!

Great Place!

My students and I had a great time staying here while we explored the Hoh Rain Forest and the ocean/tide pools. The owner was so much help in directing us where to go and what to see...and even the best place to get groceries. The house was clean and the location was great and quiet. We loved having the access to the river from the nearby campground. The big yard gave room for the kids to run around and burn excess energy.

Owner response:So glad you had such a great trip! What a special experience for these kids!

This truly is one of those best kept secrets! It is a great location, lots of room for the grandkids to play and yet close enough to eating establishments if you decide to go out. Everything is well maintained and in good working order. Such a peacefull location!

Owner response:Thanks for the positive comments! Glad you had such an enjoyable stay at the Hoh House!

Perfect home base for exploring the northwest peninsula

Date of Stay: 04/04/11 Review Submitted: 04/10/11

After a one-night stay at the Hoh House last summer, we knew we wanted to come back. Our second trip did not disappoint. The house is spacious and clean, and the layout makes it perfect for a large family or for two small families. Our kids really enjoyed the selection of games and puzzles--nice for the inevitable rainy days. The expansive yard is perfect for dogs and kids, as well. Private river access is a real treat--be prepared for a bit of a climb. Best of all, the Hoh House is a perfect starting point for exploring this region of the peninsula. We had three days of sunshine (!) and hiked and fished our way down to the mouth of the river, up into the rain forest, and beyond. The kids are already asking when we can go back!

Owner response:Glad you had a good time and so glad you had some sunshine! Hope you can make it again soon!

A excellent place to stay

This a great place to stay. Only 20 min. from Forks, Twilight central. The house was exactly like the pictures, and has everything that is listed; plus basic food staples. It is clean and well maintained dispite one other review. Had no problem communicating with owner in Montana. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the beach and the forest which are all close. A great place to get pizza is at Palace Pizza. If you are a Edward Cullen fan, there is a guy who looks like him in town. You can take a picture with him for $10 a picture, which was fun to do! And La Push beachs are a must to visit. Bald eagles can be spoted near beaches and rivers. The visitors center has maps so you can take your own Twilight tours or stop at Dazzled by Twilight and take one with them. The house has a book reccommending places to go for tide pools etc. We can't wait to go back in the near future.

Do not waste your money or time

Guest: Michigan Adventurer 6546 (Kalamazoo, MI)
Date of Stay: 06/03/10 Review Submitted: 06/11/10

This place was absolutely horrible. I can see how it was maintained at one time, that time has long past. Upon opening the front door, the floor started to sink from rotten wood. We were also hit with the stench of rotting dead animal. It only got worse when we turned on the heat. When we contacted the owner, she was less than helpful. She said she knew about the floor and would fix it sometime and that the smell of rotting animal was just "wilderness". She did not believe us when told something had died in the ventilation ducts and said we shouldn't need the heat at 40 degrees anyhow. The owners live 700 miles away and do not have person available for serious problems when they arise. Our second day there she had her cleaning lady brush around the vents and and said "she found some dog doo-doo in one of the vents- so that must have been the problem." Strange. Turns out not the case- the smell was deep in the duct work where something crawled in and died. 2 days of our vacation spent working around this mess of a rental. Consider yourself warned. I guess when you don't live near your property, you really just cannot assume everything is fine.

Owner response:I was in touch immediately with the caretaker and she went out to the house to assess the situation as soon as she could. She spent time cleaning and vacuumed the vents, etc. She also went under the house and checked the venting and did not find anything. She did find some "dog doo" as she stated to me and cleaned it up. A new renter arrived the next day. They called me and told me how thrilled they were with the house and that it was "super clean" and it suited their needs perfectly so it is hard to answer to the complaint when I received that unsolicited call? The entry floor is another issue and there is someone in there this week, fixing it. This is a house in the rainforest and with that, there are a lot of issues that occur - one of them that it is in the wilderness, the other is that it is rainforest. I knew about the floor and had the contractor look at it just prior to this guest's arrival - they ordered materials ( Olympic peninsula is remote) in order to make the repair this week. I explained that to the renter but it appears they did not understand. I did not say they would not need the heat - I asked if they needed to use it - simply because when we are there, we rarely use it in April and this was June. I am sorry that they had a bad experience. Total turn around from the people before and after them so I cannot answer to that? We have consistently had excellent reviews and happy renters. Unfortunately it is hard to please everyone. UPDATE: Just talked to the contractor that repaired the floor and the smell was a starfish left under the deck. He said it did stink but was easily remedied once he discarded it. I am sorry that the tenants had a bad stay but I wish we would have been able to correct the easily solved situation. It is a home near the ocean and in the rainforest. There are all kinds of animal life around there - which is what we love about the Olympic peninsula.
