Kathy's Place is located in a small cove with a southern exposure and magnificent 'million dollar' view overlooking the main channel, the Hales Ford Bridge, Smith Mountain and the Bridgewater Plaza just below Bouy Marker R 30. This waterfront townhome is one of two in a unique duplex (See Spike's Place, VRBO Listing #282712) situated on over two acres in a single family residential subdivision. A convenience store is 5 minutes away, and grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, marinas, boat rentals, movies and the State Park are all within 2 to 30 minutes' drive - some by car and some by boat! The small protected cove is ideal for swimming, fishing, floating, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boating but with easy access to the lake and only 2 minutes from the Bridge which has restaurants, miniature golf, game room, gift shops, realtors and the Chamber of Commerce.
Kathy's Place is two stories totaling 2800+ sq. ft. plus a 200 sq. ft. lakefront sunroom. All rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. There is a queen bed and twin bed in the master bedroom. The lakefront bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. The back bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed (both twin mattresses). The living room has a new 50' Plasma HD Flatscreen TV with soundbar and a BLURAY DVD Player. The Family room has just been converted (June 2001) to a game room with a brand new pool table with ping pong table top, a foosball table, a 42' HD TV with soundbar and Bluray DVD player on a swivel tilting mount with Directv HD Platinum Package including HBO, Cinemax and Showtime, WIFI High Speed Internet and local telephone service are also included. (New pictures of the game room should be posted no later than January 2012.) The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel cookware, 25 cu. ft. refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, blender and coffeemaker. The laundry room is equipped with commercial size washer & dryer. Scheduled trash pick up is twice a week. The unit has cleaning supplies, vacuum, ironing board, iron and hair dryer. There is also a baby gate for the stairwell and a baby seat for use at the dining room table.
In 2010, we tiled the dining room and kitchen, installed a new refrigerator, a new heating and air package, all new vertical blinds.
In 2011 we upgraded the TV to a 50' Plasma HD with soundbar and installed a pool table with ping pong table top and rearranged the family room into a game room with the 42' HD TV with soundbar on a wall swivel mount.
All bed linens, bath towels and kitchen towels along with toilet paper, dish soap, trash bags and courtesy soaps are provided year round EXCEPT FOR THE SUMMER WEEKLY RENTALS. SUMMER WEEKLY RENTERS MUST BRING YOUR OWN BATH AND BEACH TOWELS. The other items listed above will be provided.
There is a dock patio area, large floater dock with electric and water. You will have shared use of 6 kayaks, a paddleboat, canoe and sandy beach area. The dock has access by stairs or golf car ramp. A complimentary golf car will also be provided with each rental for your exclusive use (adult drivers only!) for access to the dock and beach.
We are 'Pet Friendly' provided you have a crate to contain your pet when necessary; your pet is currently in a flea treatment program 60 days prior to your arrival; and you clean up after your pet. There is not a leash requirement on our property provided you keep your pet under control. The neighborhood is 'casual' and cats and dogs do wander onto the property at times. A $50.00 fee per pet will be charged for extra cleaning to keep the unit and yard neat and clean. Any major damage done by your pet will be repaired and billed to you.
There is 'No Smoking' inside but ashtrays are provided on the deck and dock areas outside. Please do not throw butts in the yard, driveway or lake. Thank you.
Our rentals are self-managed, cleaned and maintained directly by us, the owners, Captains Spike & Kathy Franceschini of Spike's Prime Time Fishin'. We and our boats are on premise and available for charter. Please see additional web links on this site.

Dear Kathy & Spike: It goes without saying what a wonderful time we all have had at your beautiful home & lake. The weather held off just right & we got everything we wanted to do just fine. And of course you & Spike were just wonderful to us. And Kathy the menh were just thrilled with their trip out on the water with you. You were a wonderful guide - Spike certainly has his competition. They were so excited with the fish they caught. Again thanks for everything & hope to see you soon. We love you & Bless you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Kathy & Spike, We had a great time at your lake condo. The weather wasn't great but Dave did a lot of fishing and between the golf cart, beach and TV & videos, the boys had a great time. Kathy & Spike - We had a wonderful time at your place & on the lake. The house was clean and big. The kitchen was well stocked which was a treat as well as the Striper! You are truly accomodating & gracious hosts. We love the lake & the area. There is so much more to explore - we are looking forward to our next trip(s). P.S. The golf cart was a hit. Although, the hill provides a good work-out.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Kathy & Spike & Sharon - Marvelous, stupendous, fantasagorical!!! This is the second time we have gathered here from all across the US for a family reunion. Your accomodations were great - very comfortable, and very relaxing. We thank you for sharing your piece of the lake with us. What a beautiful place to live. Thanks again. PS - The fish under the dock won't need to be fed for severral weeks thanks to us! From Nora Lee & Don too - we are so grateful for a marvelous place to meet with the whole family. We know everyone will be safe, and have a great time. Someone ran over your first row of begonias; we have no idea if it was one of us, or someone else. We replaced the plants, and I worked the roots of the crushed ones. I think they will recover! Many, many thanks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: We started 'Spike's Prime Time Fishin'' in late 1988. Spike and I are striper charter captains with two 22ft deck boats. We purchased the duplex to offer fishing charters and/or waterfront vacation rentals to our clients and to anyone who enjoys the water like we do. We tried to put the amenities we liked best in all of the places we have traveled and stayed into our fishing and rental business.
Why the Owner Chose Moneta:
We chose our duplex immediately for the magnificient view! We also chose it for close proximity to stores, etc. and Route 122. It is near the Hales Ford Bridge, which gives us close access to Bridgewater Plaza and local marinas. It also puts us halfway on the Roanoke River side of the lake, which gives us excellent access to fishing from the Dam to the headwaters the year round. We have deep water under our docks but also have a small shallow water sandy beach.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
A golf car is included in your rental. We have shared use of 6 kayaks, the sandy beach, a canoe and a paddleboat. We have great fishing off of our docks. We are situated on over 2 acres surrounded by large white pines which gives it a 'compound' effect for privacy. There is pleanty of grass for putting up our volleyball/badminton/croquet sets. A large paved driveway is wonderful for skateboards, bikes, rollerblades and sidewalk chalk. We also live on a dead end street and keeps traffic at a minimum, good for walking and biking.
