Very Enjoyable

Guest: Lori (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
Date of Stay: 03/26/11 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

Just stayed at this lovely home for 8 days (March 26-April 3, 2011). Family of four, two teen boys (from Calgary, Alberta). I loved the layout of the house and all the cool little areas in the backyard. The backyard is wonderfully private and we enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and smelling the flowers. The main house has a very spacious great room/kitchen/dining area with loads of windows to bring the outside in. The master bedroom is huge and has a big en suite bathroom. The casitas are nicely decorated and our boys enjoyed them. We felt very safe in this house. I forgot to lock the gate a couple of nights with no incident. As with any property that's been around a while, a couple of doors were a little sticky. However, some new doors were delivered while we were there, so problem likely solved. I thought it was very thoughtful that the owner provided two bicycles for our use and that the kitchen had some staple items which saved us buying salt, pepper, spices and the like. We were also delighted to find pool toys (noodles, floaters) and enjoyed them. There were tons of fresh towels to use. We found the master bedroom pillows fairly unsupportive, so we looked for some in the casitas until we found ones we liked - very small detail. Oddly enough, 3 of us tripped on the fireplace hearth. The tiles kind of blend together so it's hard to notice at first. However, we pushed the couch away from it a little and no harm done. I suppose the landscaping could use a little touch up in terms of fabric showing, but it certainly didn't impact our enjoyment. I believe the majority of people would thoroughly enjoy staying here, and I'm very glad we did!

Exceptional Property - Great Location - Very Clean

Guest: Doug (Edmonton, Canada) Date of Stay: 03/06/11 – 03/25/11 Review Submitted: 03/28/11 We have rented this property for 3 consecutive years (3 week vacations). The property is spacious, very private and always clean. The main house is roomy and comfortable. As the VRBO listing states “This home is furnished and equipped as a home, not a rental.” We found this was very accurate. It has a well appointed kitchen with all the required amenities (pots, pans, plates, glasses, cutlery, etc.), a gas BBQ, dining area for 8 and a large living room. The Casitas are large and inviting. The grounds are spacious and very private. The pool and spa are relaxing and quite functional. The Casitas and great room plan is perfect for entertaining numerous guests. Over the past 3 years we have enjoyed the company 20 friends, family and golfers on our vacations to “Morongo”. We have mixed golf junkets with family getaways on the same trip. The individual privacy afforded by the Casitas makes this possible. No one feels like they are infringing on “our” vacation time. I have been able to pre-schedule maid services between visitors to provide for clean bedding and rooms. It is like staying in a small motel, but you know everyone around the pool!!! The proximity to downtown Palm Springs, numerous golf courses, the airport and Hwy 111 make it an ideal location for visiting the Coachella Valley. We have easily done day trips to Disneyland, LA and the Ocean from this location. Downtown is walking distance. El Paseo is a 15 minute drive. It’s perfect for our needs. Our guests have booked this property for their own use. Everyone wants to come back, so we may have to book for 4 weeks next year. Enjoy!

Great Location - Very Clean

Guest: The Four Amigos (Calgary, Canada)
Date of Stay: 02/23/11 Review Submitted: 02/28/11

This house worked perfectly for our golfing junket. The location is very close to downtown Palm Springs but far enough away to avoid any noise or congestion. I had read the negative review below before arriving and was concerned but found the place to be clean and functional. We certainly never felt unsafe. We did find one light bulb out - Gee, there are only about 50 others. As the weather was unseasonably cool we did not take advantage of the outdoor pool area but all looked to be working fine. The property was well maintained. We four will be back next year. One of our group are considering coming down with his family. It would work well for them as well.

Review Response

Guest: Owner & Management (Palm Springs)
Date of Stay: 02/03/11 Review Submitted: 02/03/11

We were never notified that there was an incident with someone falling at the property. We read about it here. The lighting in the area where they said someone fell was working at 100%. If the lights are on at full intensity the room is brighter than the natual light during the day. There was a single light bulb which was burnt out in the dining room. There were several other working lights in that same area. This property has been a successful rental for approximately 8 years. Over that time we have learned to understand what guests want and need during their stay. It's highly doubtful that any rental in PS is better equipped and prepared. From outside seating for about 15 - 20, loads of pool towels, supplies, extra pillows, sheets, blankets, light bulbs for every area, etc. More than half the guests that we had in the last year were return guests and some have stayed with us several times. In respect to the gate, the guests were told before their arrival that the gate had been broken and that the day of their arrival it would looked latched, but would open. There is an additional gate at the house that could have been locked (it is usually left open). The area of Palm Springs where this home is located is considered very safe. Very few homes have any type of gate between the street and the home. As far as the lighting of the outside areas, there are approximately 50 low-voltage lights that are so bright in front that one neighbor complained to the city. The city has not found a problem with the lighting, but asked that the voltage on a few be turned down to accomodate the complaints. As a courtesy for any inconvenience they may have experienced during their stay the pool was heated for free. No request for any type of credit was requested.

This property needs better maintenance

Guest: solanokid (Fairfield, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/02/11 Review Submitted: 01/17/11

This house was clean, but lacking in maintenance. We stayed for 12 days in January 2011, and were a bit disappointed in the facilities. The casita we stayed in had broken window coverings, and less than half of the ceiling lights worked. The lack of working lights was evident in the other casitas as well as the main house. In fact, the lack of sufficient lighting at night led to a nasty accident. An 88-year old member of our group (with poor eyesight) tripped on the fireplace hearth which was tiled to match the surrounding floor, and suffered a serious gash on her forehead which required an ambulance ride to the hospital, a 9-hour stay in the emergency room, and lots of stitches. Her vacation was ruined. The front "security" electronic gate never latched. I called the contact number, and was told that a deadbolt would be installed the next day, but nothing ever happened. I left a phone message about the lack of working ceiling lights and the fact that a couple of the recessed lights kept goingt on and off randomly (probably overheating and shutting off), and got no response. Several days later a workman arrived and tested things out. He said all of the switches (dimmer/on-off) were old and malfunctioning and would be replaced in two days. I showed him the hall toilet which ran constantly and the sliding door which wouldn't latch, and he said those would also be fixed in three days. Again, nobody came by again during the rest of our stay and nothing was fixed. The house is decorated to look glitzy, and the lack of comfortable chairs was evident. Except for the little lawn area in back of the casitas, the landscaping was neglected and even trashy looking in some areas. Accent lights were broken, lying on the ground, river rock ground cover was disheveled, and the torn, black plastic weed barrier was sticking up through it and evident everywhere. For the money spent, I think the accommodations could have been more comfortable and inviting.

Exceptional Property - Never Need to Leave the House!

Guest: Angie (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 07/13/10

We stayed at this property over July 4 weekend and had a blast. There were 8 of us and we each had our own private space. There are three yards, which made it great for the dogs to run around. The pool is a little small, but there was plenty of room for everyone to be in at one time. We were there for four days and never left the house. There is plenty of space and plenty to do. It is very clean and has everything you need. We hope we can go back again. It is a wonderful property!
