Authentic Original Greek Revival House on Magazine Street!

Year Purchased: 2004

Why the Owner Chose New Orleans

This house is in an ideal location. Just between the grand houses of the Garden District and the great restaurants of the Warehouse district, on a beautiful, residential, tree-lined stretch of Magazine street. It has a coffee shop on one corner and one of New Orleans' best breakfast diners in the city near the other.

We love this location as it is close to everything, safe, and great people in the neighborhood.
Everyone say's "hi" and everyone watches out for each other. Very different from our experiences in Chicago and New York. New Orleans is truly different.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Huge screen projector television in main media room, master bedroom has 42" plasma with TIVO and DirecTv as well. DVD players in both.

Shopping on Magazine street along with antique and window browsing is a must. And, the Dome and Arena are almost within walking distance for sporting and entertainment events. We can't see ever selling this wonderful house.

House is on quiet, tree-lined, residential, safe neighborhood with coffee shops and diner on the block. Just blocks to street car to uptown or the French Quarter!

Owner's Map of New Orleans

Todd and Diana Grove moved to New Orleans in 2003 and purchased this magnificent house in 2004. It was undamaged by Katrina, as it is on high original Mississippi River berm or natural levee.

The Grove's are producers of live theater and events, and moved to New Orleans when they fell in love with it and, of course, the weather. Chicago was just too cold.

    • Excellent accommodations. The house manager is most helpful. She even coordinated an authentic New Orleans dinner, catered in this fabulous home. AC is a plus, especially in the summer months :). We will return.

    • Had a wonderful time in New Orleans for nephew's graduation from Tulane. This lovely house provided a great family meeting place with its ample sleeping arrangements and good location. Best of all it provided a taste of old New Orleans with its impecably restored and appointed accomodations. Owners and local contact were very helpful and accomodating to our schedule. Definitively recommended!

    • What a fantastic house! The unbelievably tall ceilings, wooden fixtures, and soft pastels made this feel truly like an old Bayou house, and could never be rivaled by a hotel. It's easy to get to, on a quiet street, and close to trolley and local retailers and eating. I would never want to stay anywhere upon my next visit to New Orleans.

    • Our group of friends has been coming to New Orleans each year for the last ten years. The first few years, we stayed in a hotel in the Quarter, the next few at the Ritz-Carlton, and the last two years at homes we found on VRBO. For us, the priority is a layout in which we can all be connected and able to talk as a group (usually 8 of us) as much of the trip as possible. This home is perfect for that! The bedrooms are all upstairs, so you can easily step from one to the other to talk. The kitchen, tv room, and formal living area all have enough seating for everyone to sit comfortably to chat. The other priority for our group is location, and this home is ideally suited for spending time on Magazine and in the Quarter. You can set off walking on Magazine or take a quick cab ride to the Quarter. All the conveniences for coffee and quick snacks are within a block. In addition to working for us logistically, the house is really lovely. Windows and light. Well- decorated and preserved. The owners were flexible and easy to work with, and the rate is very reasonable. We expect to be back next year if it isn't all booked up! • The "Magazine St." house was "headquarters" for our family reunion during the New Year of 2008. The location was perfect for almost anything one would want to do in the Cresent City. The house is the quintessential New Orleans experience and extremely comfortable. Even though we had less than 10 staying over night we frequently hosted dinners for 20 or more. The kitchen is most accommodating and luxurious. We had all 16 dress up in black and white clothing, from area Thrift Stores, except for Grandmother, who wore red. Our reunion photo was taken in the opulent red and white living room. It was a vacation that will be lovingly remembered by all. 1448 Magazine is highly recommended!
