Aaaah, you have arrived at the beach. Everyone is delighted – this looks just like the Beach House of your dreams.
Walking up the groomed gravel path, through native Oregon plantings of sea grass, pine and Rhododendron, you turn the key and are wrapped in native carvings, wood and river rock, lit by the soft light of ocean mist gleaming from a wall of windows. Soon, a roaring fire bounces light off glowing fir. You turn and look out upon a mountain rising from the sea on the north end of a panoramic ocean beach.
Wrapped in tasteful luxury you feel incredibly relaxed, yet oddly energized in a balanced harmony. You’ve been told this custom home has been designed with the principles of Feng Shui (which literally means “wind water”) . . . where better but at a beautiful beach?
The spacious rooms are all open to each other, so you drift into the well-appointed kitchen and mentally plan the dinner you’ll fix tomorrow night. Perhaps Dungeness crab you’ll catch in Nehalem Bay, from the boat you rented at the marina. Or is it clamming season? Maybe both.
The farm table in the dining area seats ten, so on your return from that wonderful little restaurant you found on Laneda St., everyone joins in a raucous game found next to the river rock fireplace.
The kids go downstairs to watch a music video and you settle into a comfy club chair next to the fire and discover a book you’ve been meaning to read. After the fifth chapter you yawn, stretch contentedly and tuck yourself into lush linens, a soft bed and the music of the sea.
Next morning, contented and rested, you shower and sneak out the front door, walk the few minutes to the beach and head south to town and the Manzanita News. There you have a bracing espresso, treat yourself to a pastry and the New York Times. On the beach walk home you run into your companions, and you all plan to rendezvous back at the house for a hike up Neahkanie Mountain. You’ve heard the view is spectacular.
Some of the kids and their uncle opt to go to the park to play basketball and maybe an impromptu tennis tournament – you’re secretly glad when the younger ones go with to play on the swings and play structure. They are promised a sand castle and kites and say they’ll have pizza for lunch.
After the hike, you head for the Bay and actually catch dinner in your crab traps. The Marina cooks and cleans them. After a quick stop at the grocers, you head to the house, the triumphant hunter-gatherers. The kids have been bike riding and are flopped in the living room, watching a movie.
Dinner is quick and easy (and delicious). After the cleanup, the dishwasher loaded, dessert is served around the fireplace as everyone recounts the highlights of the day. The kids are pooped, happy, bathed and in bed early.
Sipping a nice glass of wine, you relax on the window seat and plan your next visit. What good fortune to discover such comfort and ease. Perhaps it is the Feng Shui. You set your book aside and try to count the colors in the sunset.
We are right next to Manzanita Relaxation at its Best (VRBO® # 304826) and large groups may want to rent both homes at the same time. This home is equal to ours in quality, view and appeal.

The Best Home We Have Ever Rented

My husband and I have rented 9 homes in the last several years. We have had some great experiences, but this house takes the cake. The pictures do not come close to representing how classy this place is. Great books, great art, stocked kitchen (and I am a cook!), essentially three master suites- none of which share common walls, very private. Little touches like toothpaste, dog biscuits, gallon plastic bags, cleaning supplies, ample firewood and a "junk drawer" with scissors, sewing kit, matches, flashlights, games galore, cloth napkins, flat screen TV's in each suite. I could go on and on and have been since I returned home. This feels like "your home" and as such, you may feel a little depressed when you return to your actual home, I know I did! The outside is every bit as nice as the inside, but I will spare you all the details. Rent this place, you will not be sorry. I am going back as soon as I can!! Thank you Kathy!! I will be looking for more of your properties to rent for our getaways! Anything in Bend?

This was our second stay at this home, and I cannot say enough good about it. It is far more beautiful the pictures show, and is obviously a lovingly custom designed home. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with nearly everything one needs to cook, including spices, olive oil, etc. The home is very well-maintained, so clean, and again, so lovely. Just two short blocks away is the ocean and beautiful beach. There is some hiking nearby with incredible views. They allow dogs, and have an outdoor shower for the bigger dogs, and a big washtub in the garage (yes, a garage!) for bathing the smaller dogs, which we have - 2 Havanese. We were very surprised to find that the home had two beautiful master suites, at opposite sides of the main floor. Manzanita is a small little town with some nice little shops and restaurants. And Cannon Beach is just 15 minutes up the road.The owner's manager is as helpful as any could be, and e-mailed or called, she get's back in touch very quickly. I would recommend this treasure to anyone, and we WILL be going back!!!

We were thrilled with this home from the moment we arrived. Every detail was attended to - even ones we didn't expect -- fluffy towels in the bathroom, dry firewood upstairs and additional located in the garage, DVD and cable instructions we could understand! This house felt like a home - a well-loved home. I'd go on, but I'm afraid to attract too many visitors to this home!

We loved the house. The owner has taken extra care to make sure that everything you need is available from shampoo and a sewing kit to candles for a birthday cake. We had plenty of wood and enjoyed fires indoors and outdoors on the patio. There were games for the children to play and books for the grandparents to read. The decorations and furniture are up to date and very comfortable. The location is perfect as well. Just a short walk to the beach. We will stay here again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Whoever wrote the "house instructions" did a great job of explaining where everything was and made you feel so welcome and "at home". Felt like we were staying at a friends house. Accomodations were great, good beach access and short walk into town gave allowed all ages of family members to enjoy Manzanita. Alot of things provided, next time I'll take less stuff!

Beautiful house, fully loaded with all the comforts of home and more. Short downhill walk to beach. Stunning ocean views. A very nice backyard for outdoor games. Wonderful back porch with nice chairs to enjoy sunsets and ocean.

We have been coming to Manzanita since the mid-nineties. We've rented each time, almost always ocean-front, and many places more than once. This is by far the cleanest, best cared for of all the places we've been. Though it's not right on the beach, you can hear and see the ocean. We've been here with children in tow, ages eight to 16. We were only adults this time. Either is appropriate. I'm not sure why it feels so serene. It may be the combination of the neighorhood location and well-maintained, mature landscaping/yard. And yet, you can take a short walk and be in the bustling [on the weekends] town of Manzanita or on beach at low tide with no one else there except you and your four-legged best friend....amazing. You are brave to share it with strangers. But we're glad you are brave.
