Casa De Alma - Elegance and Charm on Historic Eastside
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Historic Eastside
We chose to purchase a vacation rental in Santa Fe because of its remarkable climate, art, music, cuisine, native culture, and mountain location. For us, it is a very spiritual place, an opportunity to reflect and enjoy all that the southwest has to offer.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our home's location in the eastside historic arts district is the ultimate in convenience. We walk everywhere -- Canyon Road, the Santa Fe Plaza, and the many galleries and shops. As they say in the real estate business, "location, location, location." Casa De Alma has it!
Off-street parking in Santa Fe is extremely limited. Casa De Alma has parking for 3-4 cars.
The center of Santa Fe's Historic Arts District with galleries, restaurants, shopping.
The center of Santa Fe's commerical district -- shops, restaurants, galleries, museums.
The most beautiful neighborhood in Santa Fe, filled with historic adobe homes, walled gardens, tree-lined streets. Great walking. Easy access to everything.
The beautiful Museum Hill complex of museums is a not-to-be-missed experience.
Owner's Map of Historic Eastside
Our primary residence is in the beautiful northwest, on an island in Puget Sound near Seattle. We love the water and the majestic snow-covered mountains here. But the winters can get pretty wet! It is then that we love to visit Santa Fe where the dryer climate and clear blue skies provide inspiration and rejuvenation. Of course, Santa Fe is great anytime during the year, with over 300 days of sunshine! Jay, a retired architect, and Marilyn with an eye for interior design, have enjoyed creating a Santa Fe home that guests can enjoy. We take pride in every detail of our home and look forward to making your vacation here memorable. Jay and Marilyn Mitchell

My husband, his mother, his sister and brother-in-law and I had a wonderful stay at Casa De Alma. The entire home was beautifully decorated with cozy bedrooms and lovely sitting areas. The kitchen is fully-equipped with up-to-date Cuisinart appliances and the outdoor gated area was perfect for enjoying an evening cocktail and for letting the pups roam around outside. The management and owners could not have been more accomodating and pleasant and we've already recommended the property to friends and family. We'd also love to go back... and plan to soon!

Casa De Alma was incredible! We came to Santa Fe for a long weekend get away with our good friends to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We absolutely loved Santa Fe, as well knew we would. but Case de Alma was by far the BEST part of our weekend. The house is perfect in every way: the welcome basket, the gorgeous decor, the luxurious linens, the kiva fireplaces - all of it. And it was perfectly located close into everything. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a high-end get away.
Owner response:Thank you very much for your excellent review. We are delighted you enjoyed our home and had a memorable birthday celebration. We look forward to your return!

Beautiful house with a real southwestern feel. So many lovely details. Walking distance to Canyon for the art galleries and the plaza area for a longer hike. This is the one of the best house I have ever rented. You don't feel like you are in a rental house you feel like you are home.
Owner response:Dara, Thanks so much for your kind comments about Casa De Alma. We're glad you enjoyed our home and its location. We hope you'll return soon! Marilyn and Jay

We are 6 lovely, artistic, diverse and opinionated women and we arrived at Casa De Alma after a very full day of travel and sightseeing. As we walked through the front door the simultaneous "oohhs and ahhhs" from all of us continued as we walked from room to room, each claiming our own territory ---and all of us equally happy with our choice. The listing description is very accurate and did not disappoint--besides the fabulous decorating, the house was exceptionally clean and well maintained with a location that is close to all but yet very private. The proximity to Canyon Rd and the numerous galleries and restaurants (very fond of El Faro) and the roomy parking area for the van we rented -made our girls 4day getaway easy and very special. We all highly recommend this rental and would gladly rent again there. Thanks, Mary, Carla, Pat, Marilyn, Judi and Bo.
Owner response:Dear Mary, Carla, Pat, Marilyn, Judi, and Bo, Thank you for the wonderful review! We are so delighted you enjoyed our home as well as all the things Santa Fe has to offer. We love El Farrol too! Glad you found it! Hope to welcome you back again soon, Jay and Marilyn

Exceeded expectations

Casa De Alma exceeded my expectations in all dimensions. The description and photos on the web were accurate as far as they went, but mere words and photos could not capture the ambience of that property in that setting. In the words of my 11 year old grandson, "it was awsome". The location was just about perfect. Cayon road was literally 2 blocks away and the central plaza was an easy and interesting walk. The whole house was well equiped and lovingly cared for. It was obvious that it was someone's home, not someone's investment. The rental process was flawless and exactly as agreed. The only surprise was that the cleaning crew had activated the alarm before they left but the owner was readily available by phone so it was resolved. I would definetly recommend this most highly to my good friends but not just anyone. I want to be able to go there again.
Owner response:Dear George & Linda, Thank you for your kind remarks about our home. We are so glad it exceeded your expectations! We look forward to having you and your family again -- next time without the alarm surprise! -- Marilyn & Jay

Case de Alma is a true southwest gem. The home is so nicely appointed and provides all the comforts of home. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and the terrace provided a really special place for evening wine and conversation. We loved the short walk to the coffee shop in the morning and Canyon Road in the afternoon. What a fantastic place for our family to meet and reconnect. We rent many vacation homes, and this one truly ranks among the best ~ we will definately be back! The Lindsey Family

It was just as nice as it looks in the pictures. It was a great place to get together with friends. We could easily stroll over to Canyon Road and around town. We also really enjoyed the patio which was a great place to have coffee in the morning,

When my old college room mate and her husband wanted to run away with us for spring break we decided to escape to Santa Fe. We were fortunate enough to discover Casa de Alma thru a friend. All four of us came away from our Santa Fe adventure with fond memories. The Casa was well equiped for all our needs. Detailed descriptions of the house operation were available. Kitchen was fully equiped and there were plenty of extra linens. We enjoyed the bedroom and bath layout-great for two couples. Three couples could stay easily. In the evening, after exploring the town and surrounding National Parks we had plenty of room to cook meals, play cards or enjoy a delightful Sam Elliott movie. Plenty of outdoor space was provided. The lively arts scene and great restaurants could keep a visitor busy for weeks. We especially enjoyed eating at the Roadhouse and the Tune Up Cafe. Sorry we only had four days. This property will be easy to reccomend. Bacause it is within walking distance of the Canyon Art Scene, this would be a perfect art lovers retreat.

Wow! What a beautiful home. We never rent vacation homes with high expectations because we've been disappointed on many occasions. But Casa De Alma exceeded all of our hopes from the moment we walked in the door. Beautifully decorated, the owners have paid attention to every detail. We since learned that the owner is an architect and was responsible for the home's complete renovation. The location was perfect -- we walked everywhere, despite the snow! We only have the highest of praise for this home!

We loved Casa de Alma. We had read reviews and saw photos but we were still wonderfully surprised when we walked through the door and felt the warmth and charm of this home. It is like no other vacation home we've ever stayed, more like being a guest in the home of a good friend. Spotlessly clean. Authentic antiques and artwork. Everything arranged perfectly. The owners were extremely helpful, pointing us to their favorite restaurants and suggesting Ten Thousand Waves for a day of massage and body treatments. Can't wait to return.
