Let me introduce myself as you begin to read this web site. My name is Peter Cole, and I am one of two Owner’s Representatives whom you saw on the video. My main responsibility is to compose the text and maintain the VRBO website. As a potential client, you will be communicating with the highly qualified Alicen Phillips, a long time resident of the Highlands. Alicen will be escorting you from ‘tee to green’.
Sadly, most of the owners live hundreds of miles away from their resort properties. Quite efficient at collecting your money, most of them leave much to be desired in preparing you for your visit and being available to help you during your stay. Alicen will provide that all-important local support should the unforeseen happen.
Within walking distance of Main Street, with its fantastic shopping, restaurants and activities, Caroleena Cottage (the cottage name is derived from the first name of the owners, Carol and her son, Lee) is nestled in the cool mountains of the Highlands. This cottage is furnished in rustic mountain style, with warm pine paneling, upscale furnishings, and examples of local folk art displayed throughout the interior. From the moment you walk onto the porch and are welcomed by the hand-carved bear, you realize this is NOT your traditional house. Be prepared for some pleasant surprises, because you are in for a refreshing, relaxing change of pace. Recline or sit comfortably on the back deck with a good book, and enjoy the vistas of the surrounding woodlands. This is a very private location, peacefully quiet and relaxing. Should you wish to leave for a hike to Sunset Rock or Satulah Mountain, just put on your walking shoes and head out the door. You are that close !
Caroleena Cottage has three bedrooms and three baths. The upstairs features the master suite with a king bed and large private bath and a second bedroom with a queen bed and adjoining full bath. The laundry room is conveniently located on this level as well. Downstairs is a third bedroom with a queen bed and full bath. The dining area features a large table that seats six very comfortably. There is additional seating around the bar and in the kitchen. The spacious living area features a rock fireplace and oversized windows that bring light flooding into the room. The large covered back patio has a round table for pleasant outdoor dining, and an open deck for enjoying the sun and beauty of the woods.
The owners have their primary residence is in St Simons Island, GA. If you have ever spent a summer on the coast of Georgia and experienced the day to day 100% humidity, you well understand the need to escape to the coolness offered in a mountain community like the Highlands. The owners are in residence each year for the first two weeks in June and the month of July. The ideal renter would also be looking to escape the summer heat, and be able to stay with us from the first day of August into the fall for the kaleidoscope of colors displayed when the leaves change. (Footnote: if you are reading this and you have already booked a place for 2009, Alicen will be happy to arrange for you to come see the cottage in July when the owners are there. After experiencing in person what is available, you may want to come for 2010.)

My name is Peter Cole and I am the owner’s representative. I wear many hats: an oceanfront, resort, rental condo owner; property manager; rental agent; dog tender (That is Woody in the picture. Spends most of his day in the chair across from my desk watching me work.) and favorite; loving husband. As a Medicare card carrying senior, I look back over a full life. My chosen life ‘occupation’ (my Mother could never bring herself to call it a job) was to take teens on cross country camping trips; 3000 teens in all, spanning 33 years. My nephew Doug slipped into my shoes as I slipped into my retirement. My friends and relatives worried about my having too much time on my hands in retirement so they gave me their resort properties to manage. My reputation as a good manager/agent grew. Now 12 properties fill my stable. It was 1967 when I took ownership of my first rental property. In the years since, we have bought and sold 11. I come to you with a lot of experience. I do not take lightly the importance of your vacation. I want to match your needs with the properties I represent. There are 16 pictures, a video and lots of verbiage.
