Nearby Attractions:
South Bowers is one hour directly east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and is situated near Milford for convenient hassle-free shopping. Local day trip opportunities include:
1) Relax on your nearly private beach and enjoy the sun, swimming, shell collecting, walking and running, or volleyball. Plan to relax at south Bowers. It is very quiet, and lets you get as “away from it all” as you want to be.
2) Day-trip fishing with the Bowers Beach fishing fleet – go to some of the best fishing spots on the Delaware Bay and bring home some dinner! (walk 0.1 mile with special arrangement for pier-side pickups, or drive 20 minutes to the town and its fleet (& eclectic restaurants).
3) Rehoboth Beach – enjoy the waves and the shops! (45 min)
4) Lewes town, with neat shopping and beaches (30 min)
5) Cape May NJ via the CM/Lewes Ferry. A quaint Victorian town with shopping and fun! (and the Ferry ride is a blast! (40 min to the Ferry docks)

11) Killens Pond Water Park ( 14 miles)
12) If you have a boat and trailer, there is a convenient private ramp .1 miles away with a nominal drop fee.
13) Visit the Dover AFB during its Open House Day (was 9/21/08 last year, 1 day only) or visit relatives on R&R.
14) Shopping in Rehoboth's outlet malls! Several miles of tax-free outlet stores! (40 min)
15) Ocean City MD And Bethany Beach are about 1.5 hours away if you really want to see lots of people crowding onto the beaches and restaurants. Then come back to the relaxing quiet of South Bowers Island. Walk on the empty beaches and recharge your energy levels.
16) Kids 7-12: Solve the "mystery of the sea captains treasure". His note in the guest book is the first clue.
Note that the Delaware Bay is a tidal bay and at South Bowers has virtually no unsafe undertow or strong waves except near the river entrances. This means body-surfing opportunities are limited (like, none) but the water is clean and calm. The semi-private beaches are NOT monitored, so you need to be your own lifeguard even though there are also no real waves. The South Bowers area also has some of the cleanest water in the Delaware Bay! Swimming is great at HIGH Tide. Swim shoes recommended at all times. Miles of tidal pools are visible at low tide.

The house is nice and the views fabulous, it is close to the water and we found alot of nice sea shells, it is fun to watch the tide come and go, We had 14 people and we fit perfectly, We decided last minute to do our mini vacation between Christmas & New Year and Dave was flexiable and letting us rent on short notice, the only complaint I heard was from my 6 children wishing it was Summetime, but the sunrises were great even in the cold weather and we didn't have to get as early to see them. The listing description & pictures are correct

Since we are looking to stay again in 2012 I figured I am long overdue for a review. I first have to say the house is amazing! We loved the large open floor plan upstairs. Both decks, lower and upper provide a great view of the bay. We even caught a glimpse of military aircrafts flying to and from the base. Hot tub was a nice added bonus. We took advantage of that as the night winded down. Beach was great, shells all over and crabs mingling around. David and Sophie, the owners, were fantastic with their communication, answered all questions we had and made sure we were happy with our stay It was so relaxing; I think no one wanted to leave. It turned out to be an excellent family get together and we can’t wait to go back. Thank you!

We were all very pleased with the accomodations. The only surprise (partly expected) was a flooded entrance road (due to high tides and high SE winds) which kept us away for about an hour and a half until the tide went out. We had a good time waiting near the little bridge about a mile from the house. The house was in good shape and the owner was generous and helpful in every way. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an isolated beach with access to Dover, Milford and Rehoboth, and numerous wildlife refuges. Be prepared for seasonal bugs and enjoy the seafood at Meding's!

Lovely, comfortable house, exactly as depicted. David was very helpful with everything & made our stay very easy. It's a wonderful place to stay in January, the quiet beauty of the beach in winter is an under-appreciated experience. The fireplace was delightful, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the hot tub was just the thing. The showers will spoil you. Beds were very comfortable. If you're a light sleeper, be sure to bring earplugs, since the bedrooms are under the living area & the footfalls on the wood floor are hard to ignore early in the morning. Also, be forewarned if you come in the dark that the area on either side of the gravel driveway is NOT for driving (one of us had to get a tow out of the mud)! I would definitely come back again.

My younger brother is stationed in Dover, so we wanted to find a place where our family (from several U.S. locations) could come together to visit him. This place was more than perfect....from size, to location, it couldn't be beat. One day, we wanted to make a day trip to New York City, and we did it! Driving back from the city--exhausted--we had a great relief knowing that we were returning to this wonderful house. The sunrise from the upper level deck was amazing, it was worth getting up early almost every day. My daughter, who is seven, was the only child there. I was worried about her being bored, but I was so wrong. She enjoyed searching for the "treasure", counting the boats and lighthouses throughout the house, flying a kite, watching movies and fishing. Thank you so much for this house! I wouldn't hesitate for a second recommending this house to anyone.

Thank you so much for letting us rent your beautiful home. We were able to spend quality time with family and close dear friends of ours. The house and bay views were gorgeous! Life just seems to be so busy and chaotic these days that we seem to neglect the important things in life. Having the opportunity to rent your home allowed us to sit back relax, laugh, and enjoy life. The stay sadly only lasted a week but the memories will last a lifetime. We thank you and your family for this great vacation!

We had an amazing time at the house. Everything was as promised. dave was wonderful to work with. We had special circumstances and dave worked with us and made our time here that much eaiser. the beds were very comfortable. The veiw was breathtaking. The kitchen was great and we could all sit comfortably at the table. The hot tub was great as was the jacuzzi. We reted this property as a christmas gift for my grandparents and they loved it! We had a great time walking the beach and finding tons of shells and even a turtle. We were there when there was a big storm and we were flooded. All we could see was water and dave was great and told us what to do. Thew neighbors were very helpful also. I can't say enough wonderful things about the house and the area. We had a ball shopping in rehoboth and touring lewes. But the best thing was when my grandfather said he did'nt think he would ever get to walk on the beach again and he did. That was the best thing that could have happened and thanks so much for helping us make it happen to dave.

The house was perfect. We had a large group and we used up every bed in the house. It was nice of Dave and Sophie to provide everything that we ever needed during our stay. Dave was also very accommodating to our requests and patient every time I would call for any concerns. I will definitely come back here.
