Beautiful views and a fantastic vacation

Guest: Travellingfamily (Vancouver, BC)
Date of Stay: 11/27/11 Review Submitted: 12/27/11

We spent two weeks here from late Nov to early December. We had such a lovely time! The view and proximity to the ocean are excellent- enjoyed watching turtles play on the reef throughout the day, and had numerous whale sightings, despite the fact that it was early in the season. Condo is located in walking distance to good sized grocery store, and just across from a smaller organic grocery and coffee shop (loved the tropical bagels and cream cheese!). We were a group of 3 (two adults and toddler), and also appreciated the proximity to a good playground (steps away)! Val in the office graciously lent us beach umbrella, beach chairs and toys for use throughout our stay. Location is very convenient to whaler's village and short drive to Lahaina, as well as great beaches. Hale Kai itself was quiet, and we often had pool, bbq, and beachfront to ourselves. We couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more!

November 2011 vacation

Date of Stay: 11/20/11 Review Submitted: 12/06/11

I stayed at Hale Kai 1 week during Thanksgiving and found the stay a great vacation place. The condo was very accommodating with comfortable furniture, bedding, kitchen accessories, a great deck looking unto the ocean, clean gardens and pool and friendly, helpful staff. What more can I say, other than I'd stay again upon opportunity. Thanks to the owners for making this a wonderful experience and memory.

Owner response:Aloha:) What a great place to celebrate Thanksgiving. My wife and I are thank ful to you for your generous review of our place. Mahalo, T and T Hunt Owners

A month has gone by since we were in Maui. The location, the condo and the grounds were the perfect combination that made this getaway the best we have ever experienced. We definitely want to go back and hopefully it will be sooner than later. A big thank you to the owners TJ and Tanya for everything their place has to offer.

Owner response:Thanks so much for the compliments. To say that our condo helped make your vacation "the best we have ever experienced" means a lot to us.We continue to attempt to keep our place up to date and give a fair price that includes the very best location on Maui. Mahalo!

The Best of the Best on Maui!!

Guest: Carl & Nancy (Bellingham, WA)
Date of Stay: 09/10/11 Review Submitted: 09/26/11

We have been coming to Maui for the past 35+ years, always staying at another condo and convinced that we had the best spot on the island. Then we were invited to stay at this new location. The view is a “must see” experience, like having the best seat for an IMAX 3D movie!! 180 degrees of ocean view from the lanai is breathtaking! This unit is literally “center stage” for some of the best sunsets anywhere, and if you wake up early, make a visit to the moon’s beam on the water, as if positioned just for you. If you are fortunate enough to be in this unit during the “Whale Watching” season, you are in the prime location for a great show! Furnishings in this unit are impeccable! Overstuffed sofas/chairs with elaborate pillows and wall art. Flat screen TVs in both the living area and bedroom. Every cooking item you ever wished you had is here! We love to cook & BBQ so we felt spoiled on this trip. Wonderful pool is gated and landscaped, and from the lanai it will appear as if the ocean and pool come together. In fact, if you’re sitting in a deck chair on the far side of the pool you just may get splashed by the waves hitting the rock wall when the tide comes in. You are that close to the ocean!! Valerie at the front desk is a jewel, answering any questions you might have with a welcoming smile. The entire complex is extremely well maintained. Terry & Tanya have made believers out of us that theirs is the best place to stay. We gained a new love for this island and will definitely be staying here in the future!!

Owner response:My wife and I thank you so much for your kind words. We know that your stay added much aloha spirit to our island home in Paradise. Mahalo!

Just returned back to the mainland and we miss the view!

Guest: Stephen N (Philadelphia, PA)
Date of Stay: 06/27/11 Review Submitted: 07/04/11

My wife and I just returned from the mainland today and as we were driving away from the airport headed home, we both agreed that we already missed the view from the lanai. The condo was very nice...quite clean and comfortable. It has everything you would need to get by for a week or two. maybe longer. Our only real complaint was the road noise. I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this...but the road/small highway is right outside the bedroom. We usually went to bed around 11pm and the noise was still intense at times. It eventually quiets down and we didn't really have any issues sleeping, but we would usually wake up to some annoying car sound or neighbor in the parking lot. However, this being said, unless you want to pay well over $300/nt for an expensive hotel/condo in a high rise/chain, you're going to be hard pressed to find a condo that doesn't share the road noise. It's just the way West Maui is set up. But once you leave the bedroom, the rest of the condo is usually consumed by sounds of the ocean, which is quite delightful. The furnishings are new and comfortable. The TV is nice, though kind of lacking in channel selection...but, if you're in the condo, you shouldn't be worrying about TV anyways! :) I am a huge value shopper and consumer advocate and I truly feel that I got my money's worth out of this condo. We will most likely return, though I can't promise it because I like to stay in different places. Nothing against this condo! :) Terry is a great person to work with. Very responsive and attentive to the guests needs. Valerie is just a sweetheart. Checking in and out was the most simple process I've ever encountered. Checking in simply consisted of a brief tour of the property and the condo and a quick explanation of what's what and who's who, etc. There is a binder in the condo with all information needed. Checking out was even easier. We asked for a late checkout and it was granted. All we had to do was pack our stuff, empty the trash and close the windows. Super easy! I loved it! No surprises or hidden charges. Parking was truly free and abundant...never an issue. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. Mahalo!

A QUITE SCENIC LOCATION

Guest: Roger (Bellingham, WA)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/08/11

For me, much of a vacation’s success is decided by the location. Hale Kai and our second floor condo was perfect for us. The view and quite were very relaxing and healing. We didn’t feel a need to rush around and do a lot of things because so much of what we wanted was located where we were. Pool and ocean swimming, turtle watching, beautiful sunsets, meals on the lanai, shopping at the farmer’s market, hikes along the beach (1/4 mile away), plus the small city of Lahina is only a short drive away. The Mon. Wed. Fri. farmers market (two blocks away) supplied us with fresh fruit and veggies, with regular market ( four blocks away) providing the rest of our food needs. Early mornings were especially nice for me because of the 2 hr. plus walks I was able to take along the beach and boardwalk. It was surprising how many people were out and running/walking at 6:00 in the morning. The people who manage the condo are extremely kind and helpful and had answers to our many questions. Terry the owner of condo did everything he could to direct us to sites that helped us get the best deals on airfare and rental car, plus he is just a damn nice man. The condo itself was provisioned with everything you could need for cooking and housekeeping. The big screen TV mounted on the living room wall was a visual treat that we had not expected. This condo was an excellent value for us and we will return.

Owner response:Thanks Roger for your kind comments. If I can help make your trip easier for you.Even in the planning stages. I'll try for you. We continue to try our best to keep all our guests happy and wishing to return again for another visit to paradise:) Much Mahalo!

Our Experience at the Hale Kai

Guest: Fran (West Vancouver, B.C. Canada)
Date of Stay: 03/28/11 Review Submitted: 04/15/11

We have stayed at this property many times over the last 30 years. It is the only place we would stay in Maui. It is convenient to shopping and restaurants. We have never eaten a meal in doors, it has always been too pleasant to eat on the lanai watching the ocean activities - whales and turtles etc. and the sunsets in the evening. The unit is well equiped, comfortable and well maintained. We enjoy the pool and the little beach for swimming in the ocean. There is a takeaway restaurant close by that makes very good meals and a farmers market across the street that is set up several times a week.. We have recommended this property to many of our friends.

Owner response:The testimony of others can be so powerful. And we are so happy that this latest review has come from another one of our Canadian friends. Having things to do close by is another part of staying at our place. Thanks so much Fran for your comments!

Best of Maui, best of Hawaii

Guest: frankie (Czech Republic)
Date of Stay: 03/09/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

I stayed with my brother for about three weeks. I am coming to Hawaii since 1985, that's the time when north of Black Rock was the original airport. I have seen all islands several times /exept of Niihau/. My youngest son was born in Wailuku Memorial Hospital. I am saying it to show my credentials to say following: This place is the best you will find anywhere in the Hawaii. It is THE VIEW !!!. Magnificent and yet intimate. It is truly polynesian in the spirit of Aloha. People living in the complex are nice and helpful. The furnishing is nice, everything you need is there. I thing it has even a TV, but truly, I am not flying 24 hours from snowy Prague to watch a TV. I appologise to all soapopera, Oprah and football fans. I love to put Izzy on the CD player and go downstairs to the grill under the banana and coconut tree and grill and dream and watch the ocean. We arrived on Wednesday and Friday was the tsunami. No damage, maybe a fistfull of the sand from the beach in the pool. This is true Maui no ka oi.

Owner response:It is a pleasure for us to know that our place is used by folks from truly all over the world. Including these guests from the Czech Republic. We are grateful for each and every one of you who find that Maui and our island home fit your budget and your needs. Much Mahalo:) Terry and Tanya

Excellent Upgrades

Guest: Steve (Lake Oswego, OR)
Date of Stay: 02/15/11 Review Submitted: 04/14/11

We have made Maui our vacation destination for over 30 years and have always stayed at this complex. The combination of superb ocean views, a great location and friendly people have kept us coming back year after year. Owners work hard to keep this property and their individual units upgraded and as a result we recently stayed in this nicely upgraded and contemporary unit. New wall mounted televisions, new furniture in the living room, a new king size bed and tasteful art throughout made us very satisfied visitors. Thanks to the owners for their pride in this place and their desire to make sure that we had a great vacation experience. We'll be back.

Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words about our place. We will continue to try to offer the best we can for living quarters to hopefully to give all our visitors a feel of home away from home. The awesome views and location take care of themselves. Much mahalo!

We spent 3 weeks here in Jan./Feb. and still feel the beauty and relaxing waves in my mind! The location is ideal, turtles, whales, pool, beach, sunny days and gorgeous sunsets. The condo itself has great furniture, more kitchen utensils than you could imagine, comfy bed, and lots of special touches you would not expect. Great coolers for the beach, books, spices, glassware for the pool, just lots of fun things! Go, enjoy the property's well maintained grounds, perfect condo and have the time of your life!

The most increadible view I’ve ever seen and the worst bed I’ve ever slept in.

Guest: Tom (Issaquah, WA)
Date of Stay: 12/04/10 Review Submitted: 12/14/10

When we arrived at the condo I just fell in love with the view. It was just what I was hoping and praying for it’s the best. You can throw a rock from the Lani and hit the ocean. Just about every day there where turtles playing in the surf right out front. The sunset where beautiful and because of the rock reefs there’s a nice family beach right next door. The condo is an older condo but is well taking care of and Valerie the receptionist at the resort was very nice and helpful. You’re very close to Black Rock the best snorkeling spots and Front St where there are a lot of fun places to shop. Everything would have been perfect except for the bed. Its two twin beds strapped together to make a queen bed. The top mattress is worse than any motel six and is the cheapest I’ve ever seen. Every day when I got up I had a serious back ache. Because the beds are two twins there is no romance going on there. It’s impossible to get close to each other because you fall between the mattresses if you could stand cuddling on the ends of the mattress in the first place. So because of this I can’t recommend staying there. There are other places up and down that have just as good views the Paki is one and any place will have a better bed.

Owner response:Aloha, we thank the reviewer for his response. Curiously, my wife, Tanya and I spent New Year's at our place. And getting a new mattress was number one on our agenda:) We bought a real spacious, comfy California King box spring and mattress. Also for the bedroom, we've added new lamps and a flat screen t.v.! It's great to know that they loved our location being right on the ocean. Spectacular sunsets and surf. Our close proximity to so many great venues."Our"turtles too. And note that our condo "is well taken care of." Thank you all for your patience. Your responses to your stay at our place are very important to us.. We hope that you will give us another try in the future. Mahalo. Terry and Tanya Owners Hale Kai 217

Celebrated 50th Anniversary

Guest: Toni (La Pine, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 10/21/10 Review Submitted: 11/13/10

We are here in Maui for our first time and to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. This trip was also a surprise gift to us from our friends and family. Chuck didn't think he ever wanted to come to Hawaii, but now he doesn't want to leave. The view, ocean sounds from the unusually early big surf is unreal to us. We came here from Central Oregon with 4 1/2" of snow and 14 degree temperature early in the morning. The more we stay here, the more we love room #217. We also love shopping and eating in Lahaina. The turtles were out front the first 4 days we were here. They are fascinating. Had fun in the swimming pool, in the ocean & meeting new people. The view from our room was more than we expected with a panoramic view from the lanai. The kitchen with granite countertops had everything we needed. We used the pool everyday and we met friendly people from different parts of the world. Valerie in the office was very helpful, nice and excellent to work with. The location was close to downtown Lahaina, which we loved. The farmers market across the street was conveneint and also shopped at the Safeway. We booked our car through Budget at a good price $19 per day through a coupon from Hale Kai. Mahalo, Toni & Chuck

maui sunsets

Guest: ebonygirl (Arcata, Ca)
Date of Stay: 07/07/10 Review Submitted: 07/29/10

Have you ever been to Hawaii? I waited nine years and maui sunsets took my breath away. I flew from Northern California roundtrip for $621 in July to celebrate my anniversary. Not only was Maui sunsets magical but it was breath taking staying in room 217 and enjoying the views right on the balcony. By the way room 217 is the best condo on the property if you don't believe it says it in the guest book on the coffee table more than a few times. And I whole hearted agree. I loved the turtles that hung out at the reef around 4pm there's usually a group of 5 that come and feed. And the great thing is you can take great pictures of them in the water with your camera. And the water is inviting for all those not trusting, toe dipping, you do it first individuals trust me I'm one of you the only time the water was cold was went I was in Molokini and the water is 10 percent colder than your body temp. And if you don't care for the ocean and like the good ol' swimming pool wait till you see Honolua Bay it's great. it's easy to get to from the condo. As for food you have a great kitchen in the condo and they had everything we need to pack our pineapples and sandwiches in our lunch pail. O yeah don't worry they have ice packs and if your a true Texan like myself you'll love the grill were we BBQ purple yams from the farmers market across the street. Make sure to bring a bag to get fresh veggies on Mon, Wed and Fri. But the greatest thing about the condo for me was how clean and inviting the room was. It's nice to see it on line but when you walk in, the room speak for it's self like the restroom. The shower is all glass and very clean. And the water feels great. Well before I go... the best place we ate was the Pineapple Grill which you take a right out of the condo parking lot. I had the AHI tuna and Plantation Tea plus they give free desert for anniversaries we had the pineapple upside down cake it was great. However, if you just want to take it easy everything is close to the condo like Snorkel Bob who has great customer service ask for Shellie. Or the Taco Truck were you'll spend $5 for dinner and the Times grocery store which has great maui chips. And if you go to the ABC store keep all your receipts you'll get a cool gift. And if you need help with anything for the condo talk to Valerie. And make sure you check out the condo before you buy stuff like sand mats because you'll be surprise what people may have left for you to enjoy. Mahalo

Hale Kai #217, Maui magic at it's finest!

Guest: Jackpot82 (Longwood, Florida)
Date of Stay: 05/26/10 Review Submitted: 06/12/10

After months of researching lodging for our Maui vacation, we decided on renting a condo (Hale Kai, #217) over a resort. We couldn't have made a better choice; this unit far surpassed our expectations! The guaranteed ocean view by itself is worth the price, as that is an added cost with any resort room booking. In my opinion, this unit has the best view of any Hale Kai unit. The sunsets are phenomenal. We have more pictures of the sunset from the lanai, than of any other sunsets on Maui. There were large sea turtles and dolphins almost every day. The condo was well-equipped with everything you'll ever need! There are plenty of activities (games, cards, books) and gear (cooler, beach-mats, back-pack) provided for your use by the owners. It couldn't have been more equipped. As I'm typing this, I can't think of anything to recommend to the owners - it was all there! The Hale Kai Condominium property is maintained very well. The pool and lounge chairs are extremely comfortable and inviting. There are 2 grills provided for your use. Parking was very convenient and FREE! An added plus after all the resort fees and parking costs that add up when staying at a resort. There is a small private beach down the stairs from the property, as well as a public beach on the other side. Noticed snorkelers on a daily basis. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised with our week stay in unit 217. We highly recommend this unit to other vacationers, so much so, that we are already in the plans of booking this unit next year. Mahalo to Terry, Tanya, and the rental manager, Valerie!
