A wonderful week at Maesywerngoch
A wonderful week at Maesywerngoch
Maesywerngoch is an extremely comfortable and spacious house set in stunning scenery. It is a great blend of old - the original farmhouse, and new - the recent conversion of the adjoining barns which are now incorporated into one large impressive dwelling. It is very well equipped, the furniture and fittings are of good quality and again reflect the past and present. Our party consisted of 10 people with an age range of 9 years to 64 years and we all had a lovely holiday. You can walk out of the house and onto the woodland paths that surround the area or - as my grandchildren did - enjoy a great game of 'hide and seek' in the acres of ground around the property. We experienced a variety of activities in the area including pony trekking near Barmouth and a ride on the narrow gauge train from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol, We visited Aberdyfi, and also Aberystwyth - my father was born and raised here and so I was able to reminisce about childhood visits to my grandparents and enjoy again a ride on the rather eccentric electric train that runs up and down Constitution Hill over looking the town. We all agreed we would love to return to Maesywerngoch - it is a magical house in a beautiful place.

Our 4 Weeks at Measywerngoch
Our 4 Weeks at Measywerngoch
We revelled in our time in this magical home. The quality of the home, it's furnishings and amemities were top shelf in every regard. My wife and I rented the home and had visiting couples from the states and Liverpool at various times during our stay. The staff is excellent and catered graciously to our every request. The gardens and house are wonderfully maintained. It's a wonderful place to cook meals and using the AGA stove is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. The home is well situated to visit the sites in mid and north Wales. We visited the castles up north as well as Powis along with Bodnant and Powis Gardens, Portmeirion is also fun to visit. Be sure to make the market every Wednesday in Machynlleth, and frequent the local butcher and others for your daily needs. We would highly recommend Measywerngoch even though we still can't pronounce it properly. Recommended restaurants nearby are Black Lion, Riverside, Britannia (Aberdovey), Cross Foxes and the Black Boy(Caernarfan). We hope to return for another trip, certain our expectations will again be exceeded.

I would highly recommend this property. We stayed with another family over New Year and found the house very comfortable and well furnished. It was definitely big enough for the 10 of us (we stayed before the final extension was completed) and it was great to have so much space. The quality of furniture and fittings in the house was to a very high standard which we definitely appreciated. The booking and contact with the owners was very easy and questions and concerns were always answered very quickly and pleasantly. I got the impression that the owners really care and love this house and want people renting the house to feel the same - It was a real pleasure staying here and we had a memberable New Year. The location was remote, there is about a 3 mile forest track (no problem in a car) which means the house is really isolated. We really liked this as we were happy to spend days walking from the house and enjoying the gardens and the house itself. The walks directly from the house were wonderful as is the garden. Although the house is remote it does not take too long to get to the main road for exploring. We were only staying for 4 nights and so were limited to what we could do (we were also just happy staying at house & walking) but managed to spend New Years Day at Aberdovey which has a wonderful beach.

We had a fabulous time in a house that we couldn't pronounce the name of! 4 adults and 4 dogs had a really great time, especially the 4 dogs! A great location if you like to be away from it all, like running up and down hills, love road cylcing or mountainbiking, love the beach. The house was very clean and well maintained - the pictures really don't do the house justice. We have rented a lot of houses over the years and this one was the best for us. It is extremely well equipped. They have thought of everything, even down to spare wellies, coats and umbrellas. You don't have to take the whole contents of your own kitchen with you either - which is really appreciated, thank you. The beach at Aberdovey is great, so are the falls at Dolgoch. Sunday lunch in Pennar lovely. Really lots to see and do if you like the outdoors and a terrific place for dogs. Thanks and looking forward to returning. I've already recommended to a number of people.

Wonderfully quiet, comfortable, away-from-it-all retreat in a beautiful, scenic location. We arrived all ready to climb as many of Snowdonia's big peaks as we could fit into a fortnight, but were instantly captivated by the farmhouse and it's tranquil surroundings and in the end didn't really venture far from it: lots of superb walks right from the door, enormous garden and grounds to relax in and spacious, well-equipped house - this is a part-time family home rather than just a rental property, and it shows in the quality of the indoor environment. As other reviewers have commented, the location gives occasional problems with water pressure, but the caretakers are both very friendly and lightning-quick in their response: both of the problems we reported during our stay were remedied within minutes, rather than hours or days, of our phone call. We have holidayed in properties all over the UK whilst raising our family, and think this has been the best of all.

RELAX, ENJOY AND CHILL TO THE MAX ! ! ! !
RELAX, ENJOY AND CHILL TO THE MAX ! ! ! !
Accomodation absolutely beautiful grounds stunning and area exceptionally scenic. Really cosy at night and soo quiet. Everything you need for a lovely home from home! Property was immaculately clean when we arrived and everything was better than expected, fresh white sheets on the beds and fluffy white towels. The gardens were beautiful and a pleasure to sit (or lie) out in and just smell the flowers and admire the greenery. It was wonderful for the dogs to be able to run free all day and for us not to have to worry about them. If I had to pick anything that wasn't quiet perfect it would have to be the water pressure, was a bit hit and miss a few times - but so what ! you're on holiday you can afford to just wait. Would highly recommend, if you're looking for high quality accomodation and beautiful surroundings.

Owner response: Dear Amanda, Thank you for your review. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Maesywerngoch. We are planning to sink a bore hole in the very near future and hopefully that will take care of the water pressure issues. We hope to have you visit again in the near future. Best, Susan And Nick
This is now the fourth time that we have stayed at Machynlleth, our repeat visits testimony to what a wonderful place and blissful time we have when we are there. The house is always immaculate, warm and welcoming and the gardens simply have to be seen - they are breathtaking. This time we wandered further taking walks for hours, our dogs are wiped out for hours (so are we!). All our arrangements always go incredibly smoothly and Mr. and Mrs Heard who look after the house are lovely. We will go again, we relax instantly and have family time together, which we all love. It really is very very beautiful.

We had a lovely stay at Maesywerngoch - the house and its location are truly exceptional. It is the best cared for property that we have stayed in - very comfortable, warm and immaculately clean. And the grounds are beautiful. I'm already missing that amazing view from the bedroom. It was such a treat to be somewhere so remote and quiet. And I've never seen our dog so happy - he had such much fun exploring the grounds.

The house, grounds and location are delightful. After renting many villas, cottages, apartments and houses since we started exploring Europe in 2002 we found this gem to be easily the best using just about any criteria imaginable. We felt instantly at home and immediately asked ourselves why we had not planned to stay longer. The Aga stove is a truly remarkable device. It is so efficient that we turned the central heating off. We doubt that anything could be added to make this haven any more attractive. Thank you for having us as guests.

A very special place...
A very special place...
We stayed at this fantastic home during our first trip to the UK. After staying 4 nights in London and 3 in Scotland, we drove to this home in Wales. If you are looking for a secluded, private setting...this is it. It was so dark at night that I never saw so many stars in my life! And the house is just magnificent..charming and rustic but with every modern amenity you could want! My husband wished we could take the house and move it here to Pennsylvania! And the grounds around the home are absolutely fantastic, like something out of a fairytale.....streams, flowers, paths...my only disappointment was that we didn't explore more! Be aware that this is a secluded setting....but after staying at two places with shops and restaurants in walking distance we wanted something different and we really got what we were looking for at this fantastic property. Looking out at the mountains, you really get that "I'm in Wales!" feeling. The home is even more beautiful than the pictures capture (especially the grounds) and it was a pleasure doing business with the owner - she provided so much information for us, even giving us tips on what to do on our drive down from Scotland. I would highly recommend this property and hope we have the pleasure of staying there again.
