Kahana Reef is an 88 unit condominium project built on the ocean front. The project has three buildings, each having four stories. Our unit is on the third floor (Unit #321) in the far north building. This building is closest to the ocean and adjacent to the beach, which is located down a small set of stairs. Swimming, snorkeling, surfing and wind surfing are common activities in the ocean immediately in front of the project. Unlike other projects, the buildings are all concrete, including interior walls, which provide soundproofing from adjacent units.
The unit is next to the north end of the project in Building #3, away from the noise of the swimming pool and laundry, and is accessed by either a covered staircase or elevator. The project has a solar-heated swimming pool (ocean front by Building #1) , BBQs, picnic bench, and a lawn and furniture for sunbathing. There is also a coin-operated common area laundry (ground floor in front of Building #2).
The unit contains 611 square feet and was remodeled in 2008, 2009 & 2012. We continue to upgrade the unit so as to have all of the conveniences of home. This is our second home so we keep it in good condition. There is a new (2012) tile floor in the entry hall, bathroom, kitchen and lanai. The living room and bedroom are carpeted (new 2012). The lanai is tiled with a slate border and has a bar top height table and two chairs. This is a great place for a relaxing meal or evening drnk....and the best place to be when the sun sets. The lanai also has a lounge chair and small side table. The unit is equipped with a full sized refrigerator with ice maker, range oven, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, toaster, blender, rice cooker, crockpot and all of the necessities for a comfortable stay. We have free high-speed cable and wireless internet, free local and long distance telephone service, flat screen TVs, Blu Ray with Netflix, DVD, VCR, Stereo Receiver with Ipad, Iphone connection and Ipad, Iphone dock clock radio. We also have a hotel safe. There are LED nightlights and emergency lighting. The unit is as 'green' as it gets with Energy Star appliances, water saver toilet, LED lights throughout and a switched water-heater. Note, the video was taken prior to the 2012 remodel and upgrades. There are CDs and DVDs for all ages. My son persuaded my wife and me to accompany him to Maui on the first leg of his travel adventure to Australia, Singapore and Taiwan. Prior to this I had no intention to visit Hawaii. On arrival close to midnight, I found a very comfortable setting like a friend's home. The longer I stayed the more I realized that the owner had an eye for detail. As a forensic accountant, I am trained to have an eye for detail. The owner, Jan appears to a person that enjoys the process of home improvement. For example, there is a safety deposit box, double shower, with vanity mirror. Nothing cheap here - granite wash basins in the washroom and in the kitchen. I discovered too late an excellent travel guide on Maui by Andrew Doughty called Maui Revealed. There are CDS or DVDS on Maui, snorkel and fins under the bed as well as life jackets. Even a cooler to keep your drinks cold, every conceivable kitchen utensil including coffee grinder as I wanted to try the Kona brand. Stop at Costco near the airport to stock up on groceries. The owner is also a tech junkie - Netflix available on Blue Ray, chargers fro your Iphones, connections for your IPAD and Lap Top as well as wifi - a lifesaver. The complex are owned by private owners with a property manager. It's very quiet, no kids while I was there. There are lawn chairs, barbecue areas and a swimming pool. Most important, you are literally situated on the beach. You are greeted by the sound of pounding waves. Very Impressive. I appreciated the place even more when we drove to Black Rock right where the Sheraton Resort Hotel is situated. Here you feel the commercial atmosphere -which is very fake to me. We stayed from Wednesday May 1st to 4th. I am writing this on my last evening. We went to watch the sunrise at Haleakala and got caught in a traffic jam caused by an accident on the way back. Boy did I appreciate the peace and relax atmosphere even more. Jan you thought of everything, my hats off to you. Note: It takes about an hour to drive from the airport. Try to arrive during daylight. You will need to rent a car. ------------------------------------- Review from Greg Hung I was looking for a comfortable and modern condo in Maui on the waterfront. We arrived late at night and the next morning it was clear that the Lanai with the gorgeous view of the ocean, sunset, and the island was the attraction for me. We just returned from Maui (first trip to Hawaii), and this condo was a wonderful place to call home for our two week stay. The condo was beautiful! Very clean, very nicely decorated with good quality fixtures and furnishings from solid surface countertops to a new walk-in shower, fully stocked and well organized kitchen, solid cabinetry. Loved being right on the ocean and the sound of the waves crashing against the sea wall could be heard throughout the unit ~ always had the slider open so we could hear the ocean. From the lanai we watched sea turtles right by the sea wall, and from day one of our vacation we could enjoy watching the whales. Loved having breakfast on the lanai and watching these beautiful creatures! There was a large computer monitor in the condo available so we could hook up our notebook and have a bigger screen, which was good for me as I do medical billing and could do that easier while I was away. The CA King sized bed was wonderful!! I have a bad neck and hip and can't seem to stay anywhere without being in pain. I had NO trouble; the bed was so comfortable. My husband found this piece of paradise for our first trip to Maui, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return. The condo owner was very helpful from reserving the unit to the end of our vacation, and he provides information in the unit of where to eat, good places for shopping and even where to get souvenirs inexpensively! We felt right at home and were sad to leave. LOVED it and look forward to returning hopefully in the not too distant future!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My Wife and I have now stayed at this unit twice for two weeks each time. The condo has all the modern comforts of home, and is spotless and modernized. The kitchen has everything you need. The location is fantastic and the view from the 3rd story balcony is beautiful and peaceful. In the morning you can watch the sea turtles feeding feet away from you at the sea wall, while hump back whales are breaching off shore. Bring a pair of binoculars as you will be tempted to never leave the balcony for the nonstop whale jumping (in season ). If the whales are not in season keep a watch out for the stingrays that fly by in small packs. The surfacing of turtles is a all day long event and the little ones can be quite amusing. You are crawling distance to the beach, and small stores where you can rent snorkeling gear etc , as well as the Maui Brewing Company restaurant. You are a 10 minute drive from the historic whaling town of Lahaina where shopping and restaurants are plentiful. My Wife and I have traveled extensively and this is the first place we have gone that feels like home to us. We look forward to our third vacation to this fantastic spot in the future !!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We found the accommodations perfect for our family of four. Both the king sized bed and the pullout bed were very comfortable. The shower had very good water pressure and the kitchen was set up to make anything you may want. The location worked very well for us as we explored as much of the island as we could. We really enjoyed the quiet privacy that we had when outside the condo near the water. We were close enough to the water to see whales from the lanai. The owner was available at all hours to answer any questions and his description of the unit was very accurate. We will happily return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed for 5 nights and we are very happy about the choice we made. Direct ocean view from living room and kitchen. We saw the sea turtles, rainbows and beautiful sunset while we had our breakfast/dinner from lanai. Newly renovated and fully equipped with everything you need. Jan is easy to communicate and fast in response. Will come back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This condo is all that it promises and more. My husband and I and our 3 year old daughter stayed here for a week. Not only is it as beautiful as it describes, but it is as comfortable as home. The bed is large and like sleeping on a cloud, and for someone that can be described as having the princess and the pea syndrome, that is saying a lot! There is every utensil et kitchen appliance that you might want if you choose to cook, and the kitchen is completely updated. The Audio/Video equipment is very nice and easy to use. Would definitely stay again when we return. Not only did we love our view from the lanai, but the people who reside in this resort are so friendly and welcoming, we met so many welcoming people. Saw turtles from the sea wall, and loved watching the sunsets and rainbows every day!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This condo is gorgeous - not just the view but the way it is decorated. The kitchen is wonderful, with everything we could need, This home is perfectly clean, furnished beautifully, with an extremely comfortable bed. We loved it and were sorry to have to leave. As I am writing this, I'm looking out at the lanai over the blue Pacific at Molokai island. If this isn't paradise, then nothing is. The owner has left no detail out in furnishing this beautiful unit, to assisting you with suggestions to do for the area, location of workout gyms, etc. This is truely a vacation home. About the owner: Vacation enthusiasts. We enjoy relaxing by ocean watching the whales and/or sunsets from the Lanai. We also enjoy upgrading the unit every time we stay here.
Why the Owner Chose Kahana:
We looked for two years on three islands before finding our unit. It is literally on the water. The sound of the waves can be heard throughout the unit. The cool trade winds cool the unit so there is no need for air conditioning. The temperature is 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Lahaina. It is also very quiet and peaceful here. There is easy access from the parking area via stairs or elevator.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The outstanding ocean view, beautiful sunsets, the condition of the unit and the relaxing atmosphere are what most of our guests tell us are the best features of our unit. Guests also comment on how well equipped the unit is, having everything you could expect and more from a vacation rental. We are also told that our pride of ownership is evident from how well kept the unit is as well as how we have provided many extras that other vacation rentals do not provide. Many of our guests have become repeat visitors year after year, and some several times a year. You can walk to the many restaurants that are nearby and dozens more within a 10 minute drive. Kaanapali Beach and Whalers Village with its shopping, hotels restaurants and whale museum are a 5 minute drive away. Downtown Lahaina is 10 minutes away. There are numerous golf courses within 5 to 10 minutes, including the courses in Kapalua and Kaanapali.
