Location: Venice, Veneto, Italy, Europe (In the very Heart of Venice, 12 min. on foot to St. Mark) View Map
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)
Keywords: Flat/Apartment
The house: 16th century in the heart of Cannaregio, near Ca'D'oro and Santi Apostoli, between Strada Nuova and Fondamenta Nuove. Central Location: on foot 5 min. to the Rialto Bridge and 12min. to San Marco. Very quiet and safe!
Update end of 2011: THE CANAL WORKS next to our house have COME TO COMPLETION! They have removed the scaffolding and now you can enjoy the beautiful and peaceful view without any obstacle. Also ADSL and WIFI and 3 new flexible design lamps to read in bed!
Each room is independent and you access them all through 5 doors in the entrance: the main bedroom with kingsize bed and 3 windows, and one with queensize bed and one window (which we are going to transform in November 2012 ) living room with 2 sofas and 3 windows on canal, sit-in kitchen with window on canal, bathroom with window, air conditioning and central heating. You do not need to pass through the sleeping rooms and the living room to access the kitchen and the bathroom.
We rent our lovely, bright (total of nine windows), quiet, and comfortable flat for weekly stays all year round, usually from Saturday to Saturday preferably to 2 people only.
You can experience Venice like a real Venetian and have a unique, charming approach to this wonderful city which is still very lively and human. The perfect central location just off the tourist track, the view from the many windows overlooking the Canal San Andrea (see photos from the different three living room windows), the wooden beam ceilings in the living room and in the kitchen, the charming main bedroom, the functional bathroom with cabin shower and washing machine, and the elegant furniture make it a special place.
In 2008 we added air conditioning to offer refreshment during hot summers. For those who don't like it we have very good fans and if you keep the shutters closed when you are away the apartment keeps cool anyway.
Local shopping is great. We suggest you take the gondola ferry "Traghetto Santa Sofia" 2 min. for a few cents to the Rialto Fish and Vegetable Market where you can buy the best fresh food in town, also recomended a BILLA supermarket at San Felice, 3 min., open all day seven days a week and the best typical restaurants happen to be nearby.
The neighborhood is very lively, safe and central. In two minutes you can reach the nearest boat station Ca' D'Oro (nine min.boat ride to the train station and 12min. to Piazzale Roma-link to the mainland and airport) and just one minute from the flat you can find one of the best and most typical venetian "cicchetti" restaurant, the Baccaro Ca'D'Oro-Alla Vedova. From the near Fondamenta Nuove you take the boats to the Airport, to the wonderful Islands of Torcello, Murano e Burano and to the famous Lido with the glamorous hotels and beaches(Visconti's Death in Venice, Film Festival, etc.).
Usually no pets. The flat is on the second floor (Europe first floor) therefore even if there is no lift you just have to walk up only a comfortable flight of stairs. Smoking is NOT allowed inside, exceptionally only in the kitchen with open window and closed door!
Note: We usually and preferably rent it WEEKLY in the frame Saturday to Saturday. We and our friends and family are also often there, and this helps keeping the apartment always in its best efficiency as we keep improving it and doing repairs during our several stays all year round. Recommended for two people. Rates during Carnival, Easter, New Year's Eve, Biennale and peak weeks are higher. Discounts are offered for longer stays (two weeks or longer) especially in the low season. Special last-minute offers may be available to fill open dates.
For those who fear ACQUA ALTA: do not worry, it is a tide, not a flood and as it comes it also goes away. We monitor the tides and keep you informed when it is higher than usual. We provide brand new rubber boots so that you can explore and have fun and experience something unique. It is not a danger for tourists. It is hard and sad for the people and shops on the ground floor.
The city of Venice is doing major works in all canals to improve the ecology and the solidity.
We kindly ask our guests when back home to write a comment in the vrbo guest book. Most tell us on the phone or by email how charming and comfortable it is but we would like also other potential guests to read it. Thank you!

We have enjoyed staying in your apartment while seeing Venice. Your location is excellent!!! Your directions & your diagram from Ca' d'Oro are most helpful in finding the apartment! Thank you also for your comments about Fondamonta Nuove. We took your directions from Ca' d'Oro to Lido to F.Nuove to Murano the first day, then while still on our 24 hour ACTV pass we went from F.Nuove to Burano the next morning. We have walked lots every day - s.Mark square, Rialta area, P.Roma, gheto... With grocery stores so close-by, it was easy to shop daily & prepare our own meals in the apartment. I have really enjoyed the warm duvet on the bed!!! I read a novel off your book shelf & referred to map on the hall table. Thanks for our stay... If I'm ever in Venice again, I would definitely choose this apartment if it is available...

My husband and I invited our niece, a design student in London, to spend four days with us in Venice shortly before Christmas 2010 and we thank our lucky stars that we discovered Elisa's place at the last minute and that we were able to adjust our plans according to the few days it was still available. Communicating with Elisa on e-mail was effortless and it was also a pleasure to talk to her on the phone and discover her and her husband's active engagement in the arts (always a bonus!). Usually one is prepared to be disappointed about one thing or another when booking an untried place online but in this case it seems Elisa had thought of everything in terms of amenities and arrangements. We only have good memories and would definitely go back to this welcoming place and its neighborhood given another opportunity. --------------------------

We stayed for one week in May 2011 in this well-located apartment. It overlooks a canal. However, there is repair work going on in the canal now so you are not going to see boats traveling on it for a while. But that is of little significance as this location is a couple of blocks walk from the Ca' D' Oro vaporetto stop and even closer to the Strada Nuova with its numerous shops and restaurants. The apartment is very well equiped, especially in the kitchen - which is sizeable and seems to have been recently remodeled so the cooking facilities are excellent. The beds are very comfortable and the air conditioning works just fine. The "neighborhood" is most charming as the apartment is on a side street (really a walk-way) that seems so representative of Venice. The buildings are all crowded together. However, the area is the quietest we've experienced in Italy. Partly this is because there are no motor vehicles allowed in Venice; partly it seems to be that Venetians go to bed fairly early. It's a restful setting. Around the apartment building, there is a lack of the crowds that so often characterize the Venetian experience. That's very pleasant. A music academy is located across the canal from the apartment. At times in the late afternoon, the sounds of fine music come from it. We even attended a concert at this academy.

We spent three relaxed days here and found that anything we wanted to do in Venice was within easy walking distance. The apartment is in a VERY quiet residential neighborhood. We prepared several meals in the well-stocked kitchen with foods purchased at the nearby Billa grocery store. Also, the living room provided a comfy place to rest our weary feet and read while occasionally being serenaded by soft piano music drifting across the canal from Palazzo Albrizzi (which we could only hear when we opened the windows). Having a washing machine was a plus, and hanging clothes out to dry made us feel like true Venetians! Elisa was very helpful when we chatted on the phone and her directions to the apartment were easy to follow. We highly recommend this apartment and look forward to returning some day!

A friend and I had planned a last minute "girls weekend" (mid week, of course), and began to hunt furiously for an apartment. We were *so* lucky to find this wonderful gem of a property. It is very centrally located, minutes to the vaporetto, and insanely comfortable. The Kitchen is better stocked than mine at home! The apartment was clean, charming, quiet, and exactly as described. There is a full gamut of guide books in various languages, along with various books for reading as well. Both beds are wonderfully comfortable, and the internet is flawless (hurrah!). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this flat to anyone, and will most certainly be in touch the next time I find myself in Venice!

Our happy Christmas stay in Venice - the best!

What a pleasure to spend this past Christmas holiday in the warm and cozy flat in Venice. My family – my husband, son, daughter, and myself – stayed a week in all. We were very comfortable in the apartment. The layout of the rooms was great, and everything was thoughtfully arranged down to the smallest detail. The bathroom, though small, was perfectly adequate and quite clean as was the whole place. The kitchen was my favorite hangout – easy to cook in, and great for congregating around the table late into the evening, drinking wine and telling stories. Certainly the best thing about the place is its location: very near to a large market for basics and essentials, but also an easy stroll to the liveliest and most vibrant part of the city. Materials left in the apartment were informative, and Elisa was very kind to call and warn us about any imminent high water – acqua alta – so that we never ran into trouble. Even on Christmas Eve, Elisa took the time to let us know that Mass at the Basilica was at 9:00 in the evening rather than at midnight because of the high water. Thank goodness, or my daughter and I would have had a wet and disappointing time in the middle of the night! Also, I am endlessly grateful to Elisa for the warm welcome we received, allowing us to enter the apartment sooner in the day than we had planned. Our train through the night arrived very early, and we had a cold, rainy, and somewhat confusing time orienting ourselves in Venice as newcomers. Fortunately, the apartment was vacant the night prior to our arrival, and Signora Tres (who opened the door for us) and Signora Carmela (who tidied the place up on short notice) – made us quite comfortable in a hurry. They spoke not a word of English nor us a word of Italian, but they were able to recognize cold, wet, and tired when they saw it, and graciously came to our aid. I really did love our stay. I even got to hang clothes out to dry along the clothesline outside our window. I don’t know why I liked that part so well, but it was really fun to string our garments out there, adding to the color and charm of the neighborhood, looking up on our way home at the end of a day of adventure and exploration, seeing them flapping in the breeze. Truly, the apartment helped us to feel a sense of belonging in Venice as soon as we arrived. Many thanks to our wise and thoughtful landlady for providing such a lovely space.

It was with regret that we had to leave our "home" for a month and travel on. One day we will return. The apartment was exactly as described and is superbly placed for visiting everything in Venice. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone. Well done Elisa and thank you! Victoria and Michael, NSW Australia

This was our second stay in the apartment - the first was five years ago. I did not even consider staying anywhere else! Just like the first time we found the apartment very comfortable, almost like coming home. The apartment is quite and we slept well each night. It is clean and well maintained. The bed is very comfortable. Though we did not cook we used the refrigerator; the kitchen looked well equipped. Check in is easy. It is in a great location. There is quick access from the Ca'D'Oro water bus stop - only one small bridge to cross - this is important if you have a lot of luggage. There are several excellent places to eat within 5 minutes. A grocery store is close by as is the Rialto Market where the freshest fruit and fish may be purchased. It is a quick walk to the Rialto Bridge and not much further to San Marco. The area around the apartment is a real neighborhood - we always felt safe walking here (and everywhere else for that matter) even late at night. Elisa, the apartment's owner, is very helpful and quick to respond to emails. She keeps in good communication. The pictures on this site accurately depict the apartment. The next time we return to Venice we will plan to stay here again!

WONDERFUL HOLIDAY

My son and I has a wonderful week in Venice during September. Perfect weather and the apartment was very comfortable, spotless and beautifully equipped, even with a hairdryer. The location couldn't be better, close to the Ca d'oro vaporetta on the Grand Canal and, also, Fondamento Nuove for the ferry to the islands and from the airport and back. On the weekend we arrived we were thrilled to listen to a beautiful piano concerto from Pallazzo Albrizzi across the canal. Our only objection during our week and, one the landlords really had no control over, was the very noisy construction going on in the canal outside in preparation for dredging and cleaning. Scaffolding under our windows obliterated our view of the water, so that was very disappointing. Even so, we highly recommend the apartment as a wonderful "home away from home" in Venice. Just make sure the canal work is finished.
Owner response:We are grateful to Sharon and Todd for the appreciation of our apartment and of its location and for pointing out that we have no control over the works that the city of Venice does to improve the safety of its canals. It will soon be over and for the next maybe hundred years! Luckily the scaffolding are under the level of the windows, so the view is still quite free. The concerts at Palazzo Albrizzi are often an unexpected bonus!
