WE ARE TORN!!! Do we tell you that it is a ratty little shack with grumpy neighbors and that you should never consider booking this place (especially during the weeks July... our favorite vacation month)... Or do we tell the truth, knowing that this gem of a best kept secret needs to be shared with many? Okay okay... The rumors are true. Riverside Escapes is simply the most quaint, comfortable, well hosted and family friendly rental property in or near Asheville. Our kids loved it, we loved it and the family time we shared there will be some of our greatest memories. Thank you Paul and Liz for sharing this cabin with us and allowing us to "stop and smell the flowers of life" . We will be booking our return trip ASAP. ps... After the fish we caught I ask that you would consider starting a picture wall or book of fame for folks to post the fish they catch. The kids would love to see who else had stayed there and possibly landed the "big one".

Riverfront cabin

Lovely cabin with all amenities as described. Hot tub was perfect. We enjoyed the island, backyard and firepit. Loved the fresh eggs, s'mores fixins. Easy access to Asheville. Owner was easily available and flexible to changes in our itinerary. Cabin was closer to road than I expected and we could hear cars whiz by but we quickly got used to it once we focused on the terrific backyard, the island and the soothing river sounds. Our two teens had a blast. Would recommend the 3 hour horseback trail ride by Sandy Bottom Trails just beyond Marshall. Thanks for a memorable vacation!

A Hidden Gem!

This property is located directly on the river, with beautiful views in every direction. We had so much fun playing along the river banks, crossing the footbridge to the private island and enjoying the peace and quiet. The house itself was adorable, and the pictures do not do it justice. We stayed with my dad (who slept downstairs in the guest room and had his own private bath) and my husband, little boy and I slept in the massive master suite. There was plenty of room for the pack in play, plus it was nice to have a private balcony upstairs. My little one just turned two, and this house was a wonderland for him because of all of the outdoor adventures. The only downside was that there was no bathtub for him, but the bathrooms are so pretty that it totally made up for bathing him in the shower. Weaverville, the cute little town 15 minutes away, was such a pleasant surprise. Thanks to the menus left at the house, we had dinner the first night at Jack of Hearts and it was awesome. This whole area is relaxed, friendly, seemingly safe and convenient (there is a large Wal-Mart nearby if you need it). We're still talking about how much we love this property and can't wait to get back!

This was an amazing trip.... the cabin had everything that was needed. All of the small details that Liz has put into the cabin sure makes for a enjoyable stay... Really appreciate the fishing pole Liz. We enjoyed every minute of everyday there! I will definitly be booking another stay here soon!

First time using VRBO and first time traveling at Christmas time as a family. The cabin was so liveable, everything we needed and it was ages from 19 to 50, and we all felt right at home. The space was divided so well and we did not feel cramped. The location was gorgeous and the roads were narrow but not steep or any problems getting there. Good directions to everywhere we wanted to go as well as homey additions all over the cabin. The hot tub, birds, view, etc. I could go on and on..... We saw a lot but ate a lot of neat places and enjoyed a lot of small local businesses and the total relaxation of the cabin. The price was right, everything was clean, well kept up, as well as the comforts of home. The only drawback, we almost drove each other nuts with the remotes for the lights and fans in the bedrooms! They were all wired on the same frequency or however that works and when we did something on our remote it changed theirs also , so that we were constantly turning them on and off. No big deal but it got pretty amusing one night! The walks along the river were beautiful and relaxing. I am already trying to figure out how and when to return and maybe come in the fall to see the color along the river. All of the details for rental and payment and information was so easy and went so smoothly, I will definitely use VRBO again when we travel.

Perfect Getaway

We absolutely loved our vacation to this amazing river-front home! It was clean and well stocked (linens, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, garbage bags, etc) with breathtaking views of the French Broad. The first couple of days were even warm enough for floating on tubes in the water. We enjoyed visiting nearby Weaverville (especially Well Bred Bakery), Asheville, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Liz and Paul answered our questions quickly and returned our security deposit within a couple of days. Highly recommend this home- you will love the hot tub, roasting marshmallows, and the laid back feel of being by the river!

The Perfect Getaway

Nestled along the gorgeous French Broad River, this beautiful cabin provides a quiet, rejuvenating getaway. We enjoyed walking around the private island, roasting s'mores over the fire pit, relaxing in the hot tub, and admiring the peaceful surroundings. My husband was thrilled to catch small mouth bass in the river, which became a delicious supper. Liz and Paul have anticipated every need. We are already looking forward to coming back next year!

We recently spent a wonderful week at Riverside Escapes and held a huge family reunion on the property. You won't find a better spot for gathering with loved ones. The beauty of the river and the attentiveness of the hosts make it an exceptional place for a memorable outdoor event. The accommodations are outstanding and the setting is beautiful.

Great Cabin! Great Location!

We've stayed in some cabins in Georgia and the Carolinas in years' past, but this was by far the best. The cabin is beautiful, clean, and well-kept. We've rented other cabins that didn't even supply a roll of paper towels or dish soap. This cabin was like we were at home and we wanted for nothing. However, the special touches of fresh eggs and basket of smore fixings made it even better. The large master upstairs is very relaxing with a comfortable king bed. It does have two trundle beds off to the side, beyond a half wall, so privacy may/may not be a concern depending on the size of your party. The main floor has the living room, kitchen, dining area, and a full bed with the hall bath nearby. FYI, both baths are shower only. Now, the location is great. Right on the river we could fish and if you walk down about two miles, you could float in your tube back to the the cabin. Then when we wanted to check out Asheville or the nearby towns and hiking trails, it was just a short drive. Other nights, we sat by the firepit making smores, watched fireflies, grilled dinner out on the balcony, and relaxed in the hot tub. I hestitated to give it such a good review because we are really nervous it might be all booked up next time we want to come back! This is a great cabin rental for a couple,small family, or group of friends.

We wanted a relaxing get-away-from-it-all weekend and this cottage was the perfect spot. With it's charming decor, detail-oriented amenities, comfortable beds, sparkling kitchen and bathrooms and incredible view of the river...we couldn't have enjoyed this cabin any more. The sound of the river flowing by and the chirping of the birds from the beautiful balcony off the main bedroom was perfect..and be sure to look up at the stars at night too. Loved the hot tub too. Just an overall great place to stay.

My wife and I just finished up an amazing weekend here at this beautiful place! Everything was perfect! The views, the sounds, the immaculant cabin, fresh eggs, comfortable beds, hot tub, the list goes on and on. We are trying to find a week in the summer to come back with the kids. Builtmore Christmas Weekend

What a place! All the details are handled down to homemade cookies. You just get to enjoy. This place is so clean, it's hard to believe anyone had stayed in it before us, but they have - for about a year now. Fantastic master area upstairs with great views. Kitchen had everything we needed. Plenty of towels for bath and hot tub. Wonderful coffee / dessert shop in town you have to add to your list. Just can't say enough. Our first experience with VRBO - the rest of these guys will have a lot to live up to after this one! Don't think twice - this is the place to stay.

What a wonderful surprise! Your cabin was so much more than we ever imagined it would be. The added extras - the coffees & teas, the toiletries in case we forgot, the awesome chocolate chip cookies, cocoa and chocolates in the welcome basket - all things we never expected and truly appreciated. My kids loved the cabin, the island for exploring, their first snowball fight, their first snowman, the fireplace, etc... Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your little oasis on the river. We rented Riverside Retreat for a "girls' weekend" to celebrate a 50th birthday. These girlfriends have been getting together annually for over 20 years so it was important for us to find a great location. Riverside Escape did not disappoint. As one of the girls who came from Knoxville, Tn stated "It was 'crazy cute'!" It was perfect for the 5 of us. We relaxed by the river with our coffee in the morning, watching and listening to the birds and mist. We meditated, floated on the tubes in the river, ate the smoremores (which were provided by Paul and Liz by the way) by the campfire, soaked in the hot tub by the river, road our bikes on Old Marshall Highway, etc. We also took the short drive to Asheville to eat dinner and enjoy the music festival. This is absolutely one of the best places that we have stayed as a group over the years we have been traveling together. Paul and Liz are fabulous hosts who pay attention to detail and great service. We will definitely be back to "escape" again.

The riverview retreat cottage is a wonderful refreshment for the soul. Panoramic river views with high balconies overlooking a wide expanse of the French Broad. The hot tub is on a high deck overlooking the river. Inside is exceptionally well decorated and welcoming. Fresh eggs from the owner chickens, s'more making kit, full kitchen with private coffee bar in the master retreat. There is really nothing missing in this great cabin. You need to check it out!

Our family loved having all the amentities of home alongside the sights and sounds of the mountain river. I spent a very relaxing weekend at this beautiful retreat. The house is brand new, very nicely decorated and has more than everything needed for a fabulous weekend ( and more!!!) I have never seen such a magnificent view!! There is a swinging bridge to walk across to the properties very own, private island. My grandaughter and I spent a lot of time on the island, exploring and skipping rocks!!! Thank you for a fabulous weekend....I will be back in the spring!!!
