Historic Hotel Grand Marais Vacation Rental
“Rustic Luxury in Paradise”
Grand Marais, Michigan
Poet, novelist, screenwriter and rugged-individualist Jim Harrison never slept here as far as we know, but he drank (and occasionally still drinks) just a short block away at the Lake Superior Brewing Company (Dunes Saloon).
Location, location, location! Just park your car and walk to everything!

Welcome to the newly-remodeled Historic Hotel Grand Marais, located in the Campbell Street Gallery building, just two blocks west of the white sand beaches of Grand Marais Harbor, two blocks south of the agate beaches of Lake Superior and one block from the heart of downtown. Combining natural beauty, history, fine art and local color, this is a great starting point for exploring Grand Marais and the Upper Peninsula.
The rental features a kitchen, living room, private bath and sleeps up to four. The renovated historic 1883 building was originally Hotel Grand Marais and a lumber company office. As a tribute to the old growth White Pine forests, which once blanketed the region, wooden exposed walls in the bedrooms show massive boards. The kitchen/living room features a piano bar, where you can sip cool drinks and share conversation as meals are prepared.
The Suite evokes a feeling of yesteryear, simpler times and features original oil paintings of the region, a collection of antique brewery advertising, framed Jim Harrison quotes and two of the original pillars of Historic Hotel Grand Marais.
Owned and operated by stand-up comedian and Belgian-beer tour guide Stu Stuart (Belgian Beer Me! Tours).
Now featuring Wi-Fi, TV and a large video collection for those rainy days.
Also, ask about our deluxe 'Governor's Suite,' sleeps five, chef's kitchen, view of the harbor, $1795 per week. Limited rental on this particular suite.
Rentals are typically Saturday-to-Saturday. One-week minimum rental in July and August. Other months require a three-night minimum. Make your reservation today!

We will be returning this summer for our 5th time. It's the perfect "base camp" for a vacation in Grand Marais. In just a few minutes you can walk to either beach, the grocery store, and several restaurants. The kitchen is nice and well-stocked with utensils etc., living room is cozy, beds are comfortable, large modern bathroom. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is just a few minutes away, and day trips to Munising, Seney and other places are easy. It's a comfortable home-away-from home. A good place to hang when the weather won't let you get outside, and wonderful to come back to after a day spent hiking, swimming or exploring.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: Historic Hotel Grand Marais Vacation Rental is owned by Stu Stuart. Stu is a stand-up comedian and tour company operator, specializing in beer tours of Belgium and Bamberg, Germany. For more information, please visit: Belgianbeerme(dot)com Bambergbeerme(dot)com Stustuart(dot)com I also spend a large part of each summer living and working on Mackinac Island. Stu performs his show each week at the Lilac Tree Hotel on Main St. in downtown Mackinac Island. The building is closed in the winter months. During this time, Stu resides in Traverse City, Michigan.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Marais:
I purchased this historic building in 2000 because I wanted a vacation home in this beautiful harbor town of Grand Marais, which I had visited many times. With a Herculean effort and plenty of blind ambition, I completely remodeled the building with new plumbing, electrical, paint and overall design, while maintaining its historic and architectural integrity. I am certain you will enjoy its comfort, location and charm.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The building features the warm and comfortable Historic Hotel Grand Marais Vacation Rental on the ground floor on the west side. On the east side is a retail space known as Campbell Street Gallery. The Gallery is run by local ceramic artist Jo Klazyk and features Art in Abundance with numerous Great Lakes area artists.
Updstairs is a two-bedroom loft, which is the owners quarters, aka, Governor's Suite, and where I stay when I visit Grand Marais. It features a sweeping view of the bay, a chef's kitchen and a grand master bathroom, and is for rent on a very limited basis. Email for more information.
The name Historic Hotel Grand Marais Vacation Rental is a nod to the past when the building was first built in 1883 and was a hotel and lumber company office.
Located only one block form main street and two blocks to the bay and Lake Superior, it is the perfect location for a relaxing, memorable and fun vacation.
