Bear House is the definition of serenity. Anyone wanting a place to stay that is welcoming , comforting, and has everything you need, this is it. This home makes you wish it was yours. It is a short walk to the plaza but you may never want to leave. Kathy Bigansky, Tyler, Texas

My two friends and I were attending a weeklong art workshop in Taos ans needed a place close to the plaza and the Stable Galleries. A bedroom for each of us and a full kitchen was very important. I am terribly picky about my bed and its comfort. The sheets were a high thread count and I slept like an angel. The photos looked great but until we unlocked the door and went in did we find what a treasure we had discovered. There was nothing that we needed that was not available in the kitchen. An amazing library (not cast off books no one would want to read). Two huge living areas to entertain (we invited our workshop friends/artists over one evening for happy hour), beautiful surroundings in a really charming and eclectic neighborhood. I stay in many vacation rentals in the US and Caribbean, and really would put this on the list of my top 5. We consider it 'ours' for when we return to Taos for another workshop. But to be fair I guess we must share.....

Owner response: Thank you for your glowing words. We try to make it comfortable for guests and am glad we succeeded with your group. We will welcome you back.

We had a wonderful stay in Taos at this great adobe home. It was the perfect location...close to town but on a quiet street. The house is so well equipped and furnished, everything you need is provided. A great home to share with friends, as there are plenty of spaces to gather, or get away and sit quietly to read a book or just relax. We loved it and hope to stay again. Thanks Eileen, for opening up your home to vacationers, it's fabulous!

I loved this house. Lots of light. Lots of space. The kitchen was well equiped - I easily cooked dinner for my family. Short walk to the plaza. Thirty minute drive to TSV. The owner and caretaker were both communicative and responsive. I will recommend this house to friends and family.

My family just spent a magical Christmas here! The house and furnishings are beautiful and reflect the history and charm of northern New Mexico. Normally, I would never consider cooking a holiday dinner while traveling, but the kitchen was wonderful. The house has a great location- just a short walk to the plaza. This is a fabulous house!

My family was so fortunate to have this lovely home recommended to us by Taos natives, and got to spend 6 summer weeks here. When we rent a house for such a long time, we look for a comfortable and well-maintained home in a great walkable location, and this satisfied everything. It is a very easy walk to the Plaza, but since it is near the end of a quiet side street, it is also easy to get away from it all. The owners have clearly put great care into all of the details of the home, which is tastefully appointed in both furniture and decor. Everything is in excellent working order, and they kindly spare you the dusty kitsch that sometimes accompanies guest houses, so you can feel like this is your actual home for awhile. The kitchen includes not only the typical spices/supplies and equipment for regular cooking, but truly everything you need for baking, entertaining...you name it. I love Taos restaurants, but it was so nice to be able to eat at 'home' regularly. Extra touches, including comfortable linens and thick towels, a nice music and book library, and reliable internet service, make a big difference as well. We are a family of three, but the two living areas at opposite ends of the house mean that larger groups can easily stay together without stepping on toes. My daughter appreciated outside areas to play and the piano in her room, as well! I recommend Taos Bear House without hesitation. You'll be treated to a large, comfortable house, responsive owners, conscientious and friendly local caretakers, and a great location.

We loved our stay here in this beautiful property. It is a gorgeous house with lots of private space and two great gathering places. It is very private but also close to the Taos square. Eileen is a great landlady and the managers are very close by and very helpful. You never feel abandoned or out of touch if something goes wrong. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to stay in Taos and would definitely love to come back here ourselves.

Owner response: Thanks so much for your timely and glowing review! I will pass on the feedback to our caretakers (we think they are wonderful, too). I hope you do come again. Eileen

Just returned from a Spring Break trip to Taos with the family (wife and three kids 11, 14, 17) and we really nailed it when we chose to stay at Bear House. The owner did a wonderful job in making this property comfortable for her guests. Beds, sheets, towels, kitchen equipment is all first rate. The house is well laid out, providing for both quite sitting (or game play) areas and space to plop down and watch a movie together. The short walk into town is perfect for a morning coffee run, or evening trip for dessert. Quite area with scenic views of the mountains. Just a short 30-minute drive to either Taos Ski Valley or Angel Fire. We would definitely recommend Bear House to other families or couples traveling to Taos.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners.

Owner response: Thanks so much for this enthusiastic review. You have it exactly right that we tried to anticipate the comfort of guests! We are glad your family enjoyed your stay at Bear House and hope you return.

This was the perfect vacation home for our family on our Taos Winter vacation. Now, as I read in the description, the exterior of this home is still curing and waiting to be finished, so at first glance, it may be somewhat unassuming, but boy, once you walk in, you will love this home, as we did. The photos of this adobe home really do not do it justice. We came to appreciate every feature, from the “Taos Twist” silverware to the widespread New Mexican design that is the very essence of this home. First things first, this home is immaculate. Everything is like new - the kitchen, the bathrooms, the bedding, all of it, in perfect condition. Second thing I have to mention is that it is sooo warm and cozy. The weather during our stay reached -18 degrees, but you’d never know it while staying at this house. We loved coming in from the snow and relaxing in the new sitting room, lounging on the sleek leather couches in front of the fireplace. We brought along puzzles and dominoes and kept our little ones entertained on the coffee table. It is a very spacious home with mostly Saltillo tile or wooden floors spread throughout. The second living room provides a TV and DVD player which we also fully utilized to watch football, movies and funny videos. The beds in all 3 bedrooms provided ultra comfort with great mattresses and fluffy white down comforters. Oh and plenty of hot water for the bath, to boot. With fast wireless internet service, a washer and dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen we had everything that we could ask for to come home to while exploring Taos and its surroundings. The caretakers, George and Beverly were friendly and always available to answer any question that we had. This was our first experience with vacation rental homes and will be the way to go for us. I’d recommend this home to anyone looking to visit Taos and/or any part of the Northern New Mexico Region in comfort and style. Elieen, thanks again!

We stayed in the Bear House from 1/23-1/30/2010 and had a wonderful time. The pictures do not do the house justice. We spent much time in the newly renovated part of the house with thermostat controlled fireplace. The large fenced in backyard area was great for the dog. Even though we did have problems with the water heater (failed), George (the care taker) quickly responded to the issue and the owner worked with us on getting this fixed. Excellent service. We walked to the plaza every day for the wonderful Taos food and drinks. Highly recommend.

Perfect location for having fun in the town and for having an adventure in the mountains. The home is warm cozy and inviting. The layout of the home is very wide and spread out. Each room has its own thermostat to ensure individual comfort. The kitchen was so fantastic that we only ate out twice in our 6 night stay... practically unheard of for my family. The bedding was warm and soft and the matresses were so comfortable I could wait to go to bed. The home was pet friendly and the master bedroom was convenient and perfect for letting the dog out. There is also a great park not far away to take the dog for a walk. I also thought the home was very reasonable price for the spacious room and killer location. It is also very well taken care. Beautiful pictures on the walls, hard wood floors, tons of interesting books to read and plenty of warm reading spots. Also very clean upon arrival and a care-taker just a phone call away if you have any questions or need anything at all. Washer and dryer, Dish washer, nice bathrooms, Wi-fi, Cable T.V.board games and movies... all of which we took full advantage of. I should also mention my deposit was fully refunded promptly after seeing the place was left in great condition. I could tell the owner really cares about this home... And more than that the people who stay in it. For example, there is a cool guest book signed by children and adults who have stayed. All proclaiming their love for the home and the many, many memories made there. I thank the owner for letting me make many wonderful memories in it as well. I would like to stay at this home every time I visit Taos NM..... and you will too !

Owner response: Thanks, Jenne, for your lovely comments.

We stayed here for Thanksgiving week. Brilliant sunshine, warm days, cool nights. Property and home were elegant and well maintained, very comfortable. There were three of us, but the house could easily accommodate six. Excellent kitchen, beautiful art, soft towels, good linens...you get the picture. An easy walk to town. Owner and caretaker available and amenable. Good hiking, good food, and good place to relax and read. We did all. You won't go wrong. Sybil and Andrew, from Ct.

We stayed here for a month July-Aug 2009. It was a nice walk to the plaza and to the back entrance of Kit Carson Park. We were also able to walk to many restaurants and the grocery store. Although, if you have a stroller, one with big tires would be recommended for Taos in general. The house is very nice, clean and well-stocked with a small fenced in back yard. Everything went smoothly, from arrival to departure and all communication with owner. We would recommend it to friends.

I have been traveling to Taos for over ten years and this property is by far the most beautiful, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing home I've rented. It is also conveniently located to town, hiking, and the ski valley. The new addition allows light to pour in without the house overheating (adobe style). Escape to the back deck for morning coffee and return at the day's end to greet dusk. Fireplaces are located in the front and rear of the house, providing a cozy atmosphere and warmth. The newly remodeled kitchen is fun to cook in -- unlike most rental properties, you'll find all the kitchen conveniences you could want (sharp knives, good cooking & baking pans, great coffee maker, etc.). This home makes it hard to "go home."

204 Las Cruces was the perfect location for 3 ski instructors (2 men/1 woman) doing a professional certification at the Ski Valley to relax at the end of very busy days. The house is well-zoned so that 3 different parties can easily co-exist. The living areas are comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped. It is an easy walk to the plaza and shopping and about a 25 minute drive to the Ski Valley. I look forward to coming back in the summer to go mountain biking. It's also a great value!
