Property description

This 2400 Sq. Ft. home has three bedrooms, each separate from the others for the privacy adults prefer. Our priorities when furnishing our home were good mattresses, soft sheets and good reading lights. Our guests sleep 'like babies' here and we have several cozy reading places.

We added a 450 Sq. Ft. Dining Room and sitting area with a gas fireplace. The gray stucco showing in the outside picture is 'curing' before the color coat is added next year.

We like to cook so we equipped the kitchen for a wide range of cooking and baking. The cabinets are hand crafted and the new stone counter tops are a beautiful green slate with spectacular gray and white grain.

The teak dining table easily seats eight. The kitchen and dining area receive lovely morning light through a skylight and a French door to a stone patio.

The master bedroom opens onto a deck overlooking our small garden and a meadow beyond. The middle bedroom has an upright grand piano.

Our home is fenced in with off street parking as well as a gated parking area and a small, fenced in back yard.

Taos is a wonderful place to walk and look and to hike in the summer or ski in the winter. Our house is good as a base for the active skiers and/or sightseers, or to relax in for a very restful vacation.

Year Purchased: 1992

About the owner: After many years skiing at Taos Ski Valley, we decided to purchase a home. We rented it out for two years and then added a second bath with some other upgrades so we could rent it short term and begin to use it ourselves. In 2008, we decided to solve the final two problems: a small eating area and a dark kitchen. We replaced the roof and put an adobe addition on the front of the house. This gave us a dining area, expanded our cooking area in the kitchen and a small sitting area with a gas fireplace up a few stairs from the dining area. Our crew was great and four years later, the house looks beautiful and is weathering well.

Why the Owner Chose Taos:
We were on our way to make an offer on a lot up on the mesa when we saw the photo of this old adobe. Our agent very patiently arranged a visit that day and we fell in love with the house. It was dark, cold and had the low ceilings that are typical of old adobes. But we felt the magic and bought it immediately. A good heating system and correct paint made a world of difference. The second bath was essential. When we put the addition on in 2008, the house was finished and we find it perfect.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Adobe houses have a certain quality that encourages relaxation. Perhaps because there is a softness to the corners. Our house is also set up in an unusual way. Each bedroom is separate from the others so one has complete privacy in the bedroom. Our kitchen is beautifully updates and a skylight brings in natural light to the low ceiling adobe room. Since we like to cook, we have fully equipped the kitchen. The people who owned the house years ago added the master bedroom in back and the entry way in front. They were master carpenters and hand carved the kitchen cabinets and the doors they installed. Almost every door has some turquoise inlaid. These details captured our admiration and love for the house.
