A lovely home situated in the hills above San Juan del Sur. Just 3 miles outside of town, the house offers sweeping views of the bay.
The main house has a spacious living room and master bedroom which opens onto a large terrace overlooking the pool area and gardens. The kitchen is fully equipped and open to the living room. The master bedroom is spacious with a large private bathroom. The second bedroom and bath comprise the separate casita which affords complete privacy to both you and your traveling companions.

The perfect vacation!
The perfect vacation!
My family stayed over the Christmas holiday (my husband, son and I). The property was perfect for a family with a teenager (or multiple kids or teens) because they have their own separate guest house with 2 beds near to the larger house. The pictures don't do the house justice. It was really lovely with high ceiling, an open airy feel and nice, comfortable furnishings. We bought groceries at the Pali a few miles away and cooked a lot in the very well appointed kitchen. You could easily spend your whole time at the Casa and not venture out if you just wanted to relax. The grounds are gorgeous with tropical plants, and the sounds birds and howler monkeys (we didn't see any but we heard them). The pool is kept very clean by the friendly groundskeepers and perfect for cooling off in the afternoon. We loved being a few miles outside of town so we could totally get away but also go to town when we felt like more excitement. We rented a small car and although the road is a bit rough in the dry season a car made it ok. In the rainy season you likely need a 4 wheel drive. The rough road is approx. 1 mile long. We also walked to town a bit. If you are a hiker and don't mind the 4 to 5 miles road trip hike its really lovely. The property has this amazing deck to rock in rocking chairs and stare out at the rain forest and the jungle. The price is also very affordable compared to many other homes we looked at on VRBO. The owner (Gordan) was very helpful with providing us information about the nearby area and communicating via email (the house has good WIFI so you can use your hand held). Villa Oro is within driving distance of some of the most amazing surf spots. We LOVED San Juan Del Surf and Casa Oro! We miss it already. Kat

Three of us stayed at Villa Oro over New Year's and had an amazing time. The home is stunning - the pictures do not do the home, vistas or grounds justice! We were three women and felt perfectly safe, and made great friends with the next door neighbors. We did not have a car and managed fine without. Since we were there during the high season, we were happy to have a place that was a bit away from the hustle and bustle at night but close enough that we didn't feel like it was a hassle to get into town. The key is to get a cab driver's phone number - it's like having a personal chauffer. If you want to explore more than just the town, however, I'd recommend a car (you can rent one at one of the other resorts in town, I believe). As far as attractions and things to do, the beach is gorgeous (we felt perfectly safe at night on the beach as well), I had a great time surfing, so definitely check out some of the nearby beaches such as Playa Hermosa (there are shuttles that will take you there and back). When we went, the waves were small enough so that non-surfers could swim and play. The bar Republika is where the local ex-pats hang out (Wednesday nights are trivia night), and Cory and his wife who run it are the best. If you're looking for a surf instructor, Cory is the man. I learned more from him and got up immediately than four lessons in California. The zip line tour is just outside of town and is really fun. And after a fun day of adventure, you can go back to Villa Oro and relax on the amazing deck and watch the sunset over the Pacific, amongst the beautiful bouganvilla and other flora and fauna on the grounds. A couple of things to note, which did not impact our stay but you should be aware of: there isn't hot water, as is common in most of Central America; the casita, with the second bedroom, has two beds that are very close together but it can get a bit stuffy. Oh, the turtle tour is well worth it. We saw turtles making their way to the ocean by the light of the moon. Some of the locals bring their families and help the turtles make their journey as well - an awe-inpsiring experience to say the least, that warmed my heart. Gordon and his wife also answered all of our questions and connected us with drivers and the right people. And Jason, who is the rental manager, was incredibly accomodating as well - these are good people who will do everything to make sure you have the vacation of a life time!

Great Get Away Location
Great Get Away Location
My husband and I travel to a warm location every winter to relax and unwind. This is our second time at Villa Ora and it fits perfectly into what we want in a winter get away. The villa has the setting of a romantic novel with a view of ocean, town and jungle out the double patio doors that swing out onto a huge covered deck. We spent three weeks relaxing every morning with Nicaraguan coffee on our deck and then a morning swim and suntan session in our private pool that was kept very nice. We brought our own hammock and secured it down closed to the pool in the shade of a tree to enjoy reading and swimming the afternoons away. The villa is well equipped and clean. We returned here because it is a beautiful villa in a private setting, but close enough to town that it was easy to get to the restrauants and shopping.

Relaxing stay in a beautiful nature environment
Relaxing stay in a beautiful nature environment
We rented Villa Oro for one month. The home was comfortably appointed with all the amenities needed for our stay. The location of the home was perfect; out of the hustle and bustle of San Juan del Sur, yet close enough to get to within minutes. In the mornings, we often heard the howler monkeys and sighted many beautiful birds. Once, the monkeys came right onto the property, and we were able to take some great pictures. It was truly beautiful and relaxing to sit on the patio in the evenings to watch the ocean sunsets. But the highlight for us was the wonderful staff employed at the home: the gardeners and the night watchman. They helped us with anything we needed, from information about the area to conversing with us so that we could improve our Spanish. We would highly recommend this beautiful home if you want to be in a safe, lovely nature setting yet close to town. If we have the opportunity to return, we would choose Villa Oro.
